@@CameramanRon hey I don’t blame ya it’s a nice boat, anyway if ya ever wanna get on a boat and try mobile bay or little lagoon let me know, I’m trying to get my channel off the ground and could use some pointers. Or just wanna try fishing there since I see y’all never fish the little lagoon
I wasn't expecting to make a guest appearance in this one lol! I still can't believe Mako hasn't reached out to you guys, that blew me away when I first heard ya'll talk about it! The old Mako is definitely limited on space, was a neat balancing act at times with the 4 of us and all of our gear, I remember thinking I was gonna knock Beach Bum off at one point and then Brant tripping over something another time that day! Def gotta weigh your options though and make the best good & informed decision that you can once all the pros and cons are weighed out!
The Mako has served its purpose, it allowed you to experience boat ownership (you have to love it to like it), it took you out and brought you back, it allowed you to fish many different areas, it provided you a starting point to understand the features/options you need in your next boat. Storage and DRY storage, more space (Clickbaiters is growing), rod holder options, the appreciation for an easy to use, easy to launch boat. I'm excited for you and can't wait to see what you get. My two cents worth: 1) a built in fish box ( a cooler takes up space), 2) tackle storage that is out of the way, 3) adequate access to the bilge area for repairs (I learned that one the hard way), 4) a raw water/saltwater washdown pump and hose with a sprayer. Best of luck.
I run a 17 pro skiff and for me I'm very happy with her. I'll probably add some rod holders on the boat and may even have a t top built for it but for every kind of fishing I do it's been the perfect boat.
Hey CMR I actually just took delivery of my 22 MPS 17 about a month ago and I actually got it thanks to your videos. I fish alone or with one person so it’s perfect for me. I know Mako should’ve definitely reached out to you guys. I wouldn’t of bought the mako if I didn’t see it on your channel and I know I’m not alone! Good luck on the boat search!
I own MPS 17 also and everything you mentioned has also been my struggle. In addition to no storage my next issue is seating. When we go to the sandbar as a family, its very difficult to not be stressed out due to the lack of seating. We have used 2 bean bags that we placed near the stern but we are just to close. Also would recommend adding a cleat to the front of the boat to tie off the 8anchor. Speaking of anchors, the front anchor locker is a joke. Way too small for the type of anchor needed to properly secure your boat. I am also contemplating selling mine and getting something better suited for fishing and sandbar life. Thank you for your honesty.
Dude. I love Sea Pro boats. Suzuki engines are where it's at, too. Actually just sold my 228 bay and am upgrading to the 248 bay (with a Suzuki 350!). Excited I get to take delivery next week. Best of luck and have fun with the search!
Ron I discovered you and brant from your older Mako review I was considering between the mako and a G3 bay boat. Your review on the mako was one of like 3. So I understand your disappointment. I went with the G3 by the way. Keep up the great content!
I think you should keep the good old Mako as a river boat and shallow water boat and get one of the best offers you guys are getting from other companies. I really like the Mako because of all of the adventures you guys have had on it. Tight lines Ron. Have a great one
Your original channel and reviews were the main reason I bought my Mako. I agree with what your problems with the boat 100% because I have the exact same issues. I keep mine for the cost point. I can't believe Mako hasn't reached out to you, especially with how much you have promoted their brand for free. I literally bought mine because of this channel.
Recently aquired a 2016 blue wave pure bay 2000, Love every part of the boat, extremely smooth ride, a ton of storage and plenty of fishing space, went on vacation to Crystal River with 5 people a few months ago and had 0 issues fishing at the same time I highly recommend looking in to a blue wave!
Not sure if you'd consider an aluminum boat, but Excel makes some nice aluminum bay boats. Their flagship 230 bay pro would work for payload and stability and still able to get in to skinny water. I own an Excel bay pro 203 and really like it. An added plus is they have built in accessory rails on the gunnels to mount rod holders and other things.
Having watched all the reviews up to this point(following you on the one year review and dropped back and caught up with the others) you have always had love for the MAKO. Point 1- a little small for the bays when the wind is blowing and choppy. Point 2 - great to get up in the creeks and winter fish.(trout, reds and stripper) Point 3- with the whole crew wanting to fish space is tight. So it is a balancing act up size too much and the creek and winter time fishing will take a hit. Whatever you and Sarah decide y’all will knock it out of the park.
Like many folks, I resent what avaricious lawyers have done to our civil justice system (enriching for them and their clients but raising prices for the rest of us). However, if the bait well problem was a design flaw, Mako should offer compensation or make it right.
Support small business guys!! I'm sure you have local custom boat builders close to you, ready to build whatever your heart's desire!! This pandemic has killed small businesses, and those of us who are still around could really use the help!!
If it wasn’t for your thorough reviews, I may not have felt as comfortable buying my 17’ MPS earlier this year (first time boat owner). Riley at Scott’s Marine even mentioned your videos when I was debating the purchase. I just installed my MK Terrova last week and can’t wait to do more fishing!
I recommend you get an open fish catamaran. They're more stable than monohulls, they use less fuel and you get more deck space than a monohull of the same length. They're just better in every way.
PS Ron could you have used a air system that plugs in for front box and have dry storage box on top of the other one you could use it as a fishing platform and hey they sell rod holders if or when you get next boat I be happy to help with recommendation for any of your questions you and your family have been a pleasure to watch thanks for the video 😊
Hey Ron you guys used that boat for a lot of videos and I’m going to miss it but you are definitely right about Mako not reaching out to you guys and try to make mends meet. If you got a larger boat company lined up go for that definitely. I would love to see some new videos on a new boat absolutely!
You guys definitely need a bigger boat. I don't know if you're each getting one or co-owning a boat together, whatever the case may be, Beach Bum needs some backing in lessons.
You didn’t really mention your fishing needs. Are you planning on upping your game and heading offshore or are you sticking to nearshore/inshore fishing? Sounds like you are leaning more towards a bay boat. Good luck and keep us in the loop.
Could not blame you one bit bro,as much as you all have had that Mako publicized and not to mention the good things you all have had to say about it. That's pretty sad they haven't even reached out to you about some sort of deal with them. Best of luck on possibly having a new ride, maybe something a little bigger to handle a little bigger water's out there, who knows were you guy's could be fishing at. Be out in those deep waters. Tight lines to you all my friends 🎣🎣🎣🚤🚤🛳
Hey bud, I would look for an older year pathfinder. Something that’s a reasonable price because we all know they run high but it’s a damn good boat with a lot of storage and stability
I own a deeper v hull Mako and I will say accessibility is an issue. I think you guys may have a hard time finding a boat to meet your storage and space needs but allow the ability to access all areas as to where you fish. I know they make larger flats boats. It’s exciting to see what you guys plan. Keeping the mako if affordable may be your best option to allow you to continue the full spectrum of your content creating while also getting a larger boat.
First off. If you get rid of it, will you miss it, or be glad it’s gone? There is NO perfect boat! Just perfect for you! Meaning, all the good out ways the bad! Also, either get the middle live well working or seal it off and use it as dry storage or something else! All boats are gonna have something that ya don’t like or ya wish was different! And as far as the manufacture, as long as its (the boat) not leaking or falling apart! Then fix it or change the things you can, or don’t like. People are just people, and people run the company, some company's are better, means better quality of people running it. Some are willing to do better than others! Hope this makes some sense!
Salutations from South Africa! Before you change boats, do a Boat V. Boat with VitaminDee. Losers have to clean both boats. Regardless of which bigger boat you get I'll still eagerly await each episode! As always, keep smoking them reels!
I hope you guys go to an aluminum option. Like either an Excel or Xpress bay boat. What most folks can afford, seem like a lot of storage, and supposed to handle rough water really well.
I would recommend something that fits the channel. It would be sad to see it go for sure. But Mako should have better customer service. A 2020 boat should not have those issues Captain Ron!
@@CameramanRon Still you spent good money on a new boat man! I would take it as a learning experience and not buy from them again if they can not take care of their customers.
I just sold a Key West 230BR. Had a 250 Yamaha. T-top. Boat was stable, dry, great ride, ample dry storage, owned it 5-6 years and everything still works as it should. Although, pumps wear out and other things are gonna crap out with age. 23’ may not be the size you’re looking for but I’d give Key West a look see. They have many models to choose from and I think they are a North Carolina boat. They also are a very good company and stand behind their boats.
So ... the company that DESIGNED and built the boat - are saying they can't do anything because it's a design flaw. Nevermind that they removed it because it didn't work, then just put it back without changing the design. This is really steering me towards saving the money and just buying an aluminum boat.
Hard to believe it might go away, but definitely understand. BTW there is a product called T-9 Boeshield that should remove the rust, and prevent any future corrosion. So hard to get that perfect mix of a boat that allows you to get into tight areas, and would be a stable platform for offshore. Hate to suggest it, but maybe there is a need for 2 boats? The Mako stays to fill the back water needs, and the new one let's you get out into the bay and offshore regardless of conditions. Decisions decisions!!1
I've been looking at bay boats for a while. Ranger and skeeter bay boats have lots of storage and great seals and deep gutters to ensure they stay dry.
I own a 2021 purebay 2200 and it's a wonderful boat. I fish mobile Bay area and it handles great.. Tons of storage for the size. Baitwells are excellent too.
Blazer Bay is local, they build them in Ellison Field, I'd love to see a local company use local guys to reach a large audience, good luck, I love my ProLine.
Greatly depends on several factors, is it paid for,are you're plans to each take on responsibility as a business. One big determining factor is how long do you believe U-Tube will pay for the content,l get it no risk no reward..your vids are solid and I personally enjoy your vids . 😉
Ive noticed a few YT channels inquiring about boat sponsorship. Saw one guys deal fell thru at last minute due to the companys partners could not agree. But bit surprized that Mako didnt want to make a deal. Ive got a Scout 195 Sportfisher. Only had it couple of months but I find it perfect for my needs. Been 25/30 miles offshore so far fine and dont see me needing to go further. But its a popular boat as is the Mako so MAYBE they did not think they needed help selling them. But hey who knows how companys mminds work. Good luck.
Hey, looking forward to your thoughts on this. I also think it's great that you have Mfgrs willing to work with you on a new boat. Can't wait to see where you go. It's amazing how long it takes some businesses to realize and incorporate the changes that have taken place in the world. Easy to sit back and get on the wrong side of the curve. If you can get a good enough deal to be payment free then it's a good idea. IF you have to sign on the line then stay with the MaKo.
Maybe, keep the Maco. How much is it worth on a resale? Could this option would work as well? Two times the filming. Camping overnights using the 'boats'? Shots from one boat to the other would raise you on the rung a bit. Love the content. Love the fishing.
You need more rod holders , more room for when all of y'all are fishing , there some boats that when you find it , y'all will definitely know , hope the best for you and your family , and the guys ,and there family ,
You should do what's best for you. If it doesn't fit what you need it for then look at other manufacturers and maybe they have a model that's similar but with the options that you need
I can’t hardly believe out of all the exposure you’ve given mako with your boat that they haven’t reached out to you with some kind of sponsorship at least... corporate ???
Cameraman Ron If you guys are looking new boats Mako and Ranger are being made right here in my little town of New Bern, NC. Plus I sent Brant a message earlier about coming up here and doing a video with our amazing trout bite we have in the winter.
It’s time to move on, it’s not big enough, and they are getting free publicity from you guys and they can’t appreciate it , time to move on to a company that appreciates what you do and is willing to deal and make good with you guys! Love all your shows!
I work on a tugboat we use that stuff all the time. West marine has some awesome marine grade stainless bolts that won’t do that to I used it for my old bay boat and never had any issues. My boat pretty stayed in the salty waters in south Louisiana. I figured you already knew that just wanted to inform you of it buddy
@@CameramanRon no doubt about that!! I like what you guys are saying about the audience trying to get a boat that is affordable for ppl like me. Not everyone can afford a yellowfin lol. Can’t wait to see what boat you end up with!! Hopefully it’s something that has better storage space and ride quality. I am personally bout to order a prodrive next year. It’s a surface drive boat. Once I get her in my hands I’ll send you a few pics lol
I agree it is a hard decision for a predominantly inshore fisherman. I keep thinking it would be nice to have a boat that you can take offshore from time to time. But you sacrifice going in skinny water with a deeper hull. But lack of storage can be a huge bummer. If you are staying with flats boats or technical poling skiffs your options are somewhat limited. Not to mention the financial factor. I can't justify spending $100K or more on a boat. Best of luck in your search. It might be kind of neat to narrow it down to one or two boats and let the viewers decide. But in the end it is you alls money not ours. I would say the majority of us would watch if you used a life raft. Lol. Love your shows. You guys are the best.
Hi Ron, I just took my pro skiff 17 for the 20hr service, and told them about the front live well issue, and they said I have prime it, while being on the water, open the valve, with the motor on and go reverse, and should work.
mako is owned by bass pro shop so not sure what they consider beneficial marketing for their boats...glad that ya'll have options...in the mean time that does seem like a very functional fishing rig...lot of times you do wind being creative to set something up on a boat to get it to work as you see fit...also figure out how to lock up your boxes etc to keep folks from putting fish guts and bait into hidden areas for you to find later lol...safety first
I guess you’ll just have to see who gives you the best deal and Way your options But you’re probably going to find pros and cons to all the boats but definitely more storage and probably at least a step up and size, love your videos keep up the good work
Not sure what you are looking into but like I have always said if you have a boat you are a blessed person. I am still working my way to having a boat I can always dream though. I really hope you find what you are looking for. God bless
Mako is owned by Johnny Morris of Bass Pro Shops. All he cares about is selling numbers of boats, not necessarily the quality. He initiated the package boat deal when he started selling tracker boats. Just remember man law, which is if you sell a boat you have to get a bigger boat.
Man dude I would love to see you guys get a new and bigger boat. We all know what happens offshore with Mr. Landry.... oh and don’t forget to fix the rod holder ha ha on the Meiko
Bay Rider Skiff 2460 A lot of the nearshore charter guys here in NC run these. They are nice. I think they draft 10" and we have grouper fished offshore in one as well.
You’d think if mako knows about the bait well is a issue they would recall it or stop producing a flawed boat. Think I’d move on especially if mako not even talking to you. Good luck
If it doesn't work from the factory, they should, By Law, make it right! The design flaw BS is the Corp way of saying, we do not want to spend the $ to make it right.
For the record, while I did not buy a Mako, I had never HEARD of Mako before you and when I was shopping I started at Mako because of you. In the end, I put off buying a boat for now. But Mako should recognize that they were NOT recognized by many until CMR and Brant got involved.
@@andy6043, there's LOTS of companies older than me (even though that makes them an antique! :)). My point is a Southern Illinois old man who fishes freshwater mostly, I had never heard of them. I'm not sure if too many folks on the coast has ever heard of a Reelfoot lake boat (look it up and get a laugh!). But my point is, if CMR was in Kentucky, and shot videos for a solid year in one of these (it's basically a canoe with a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine in it), there would be MANY people who would suddenly know of them.
@@pauljuniordavis I think Mako was mostly an offshore Florida boat in the beginning, I've known of the name for 35+ years. I like Jeff Spira's designs although most folks don't know who he is. He has a lot of designs of self built wood boats that are cheap to build. I'm thinking of using his designs for an Aluminum boat for myself .
Do some digging on information on the Ranger boats before you go there. I am pretty sure that they are owned by Bass Pro Shop just like Mako and several other brands of boats.
That mercury engine is one problem every one I had or family had and did service on time. It still had problems and didn't last long but Suzuki motors you do normal service and. They last for years
My express is a side console for 6.5 k used w a 60 Yamaha tlra it works just re powerful it 02 that 74 4 stroke would be nice but it’s the same wieght as a 90 so. A 70 hp would be feasible 100 lb lighter It would be nice for a boat to handle chop better then a flat bottom
I had a mako it was all right But I prefer a 21 proline Lots of Space a great inshore offshore boat great boat all around Take it from somebody that would go fishing every week l Love that boat Check them out
Sometimes ya just have ta move on . I see good things abought " Yellow Fin " boats . I don't have a boat now , so I can't say much . You have had some great times on the Mako , but bigger / better just may be the way ta go . After all this is a big part of yer life stile and income . No shame in change eh . I'm sure you will be happy with what ever you get . Thanks Ron , Tom Daytona Beach , FL . 17 , November 2021 .
ya'll have to give more info.......on the boat u have in mind.......22 ft, shallow draft, one motor, fresh water tank, center con, toilet etc exciting times moving forward huh!
get you a cuddy cab or bass boat if your looking for boats with storage. ...this aint one of them. i have yet to own a cc that has any kind of great storage.
From listening to your video, it sounds like you have outgrown the boat. Get a boat that allows you to make fishing videos and will safely allow more than 2 people fishing. If you are going to be making videos, you need the correct equipment. You may want to reach out to other fishing content creators to see what they would recommend.
