The water lilies greet the terrain during the end of the monsoon rains, which usually occurs annually between July and October. They spread out over 600 acres of land, and a small advise that the best time to witness this phenomenon is morning (Around 6.00 AM to 10.00 AM).
Actually this is a paddy field, So it's cultivated in these fields during the agricultural season. For the farmers, these water lilies are just ‘weeds’ that conquer the fields during intervals between paddy farming.
The water lily seeds that hide in the muddy bed when the water is drained begin to sprout when the fields are filled with water.
To preparing the field for next farming season the water will drain using pump sets, It'll take up to one week to drain fully.
Malarikkal is 9 kilometres away from Kumarakom and 7.5 kilometres from Kottayam.
These visuals alone draw in bigger crowds each year, as words spread of this natural wonder.
