In our third live episode we talked again about generating speed in your golf swing. The levers and pivots in your golf swing are essential to getting the most energy from the club face into the ball. How you get that club head moving the fastest is where most players get themselves in trouble.

What a great video. For many years I was told not to use my hands for power. Just hold on to the club and turn your hands over at contact. I,m 86 yrs old and hitting the ball farther than I have in a long time. Thanks. Phil/Mary

Mike you are the golf sage of the ages. There are many teachers out there that have priceless information but your way of communicating, wisdom, experience, and demeanor is bar none. Thank you for putting in the time and being passionate about the game through the years and bringing that knowledge to the world of golf on youtube. Lately I play your videos back to back while I practice putting in the bedroom or doing whatever. I'm hoping that by doing this and just having the sound of your voice and hearing the words you speak, will, after continuous playtime penetrate my thick skull and help me evolve me into a gracious and confident swinger of the club. It's been making a difference this last year of gaining knowledge and hours of practice. Golf is a sport where we can learn something every single day when we dedicate the time to learning and learning to love the dirt. Good luck to all that are beginning your journey in golf. Please don't get discouraged for it is a very difficult game to learn but the good thing about it is we will have way more ah ha moments than any other sport. I guess that's what keeps us coming back. It's kind of like 1 step forward and 2 of them back, and i'm a slow learner so maybe it's more like 3 steps back. Been golfing 75% of my life and didn't start to really be able to strike the ball decently until I listened to the pros and practiced almost everyday for two years. I don't think I made too many people happy during that time but I chose to do what I'm passionate about instead of running down money. I don't have a lot of dough, sold my nice pick up, don't really care where I lay my head, but i'm more content and look forward to going to the range or course most everyday. And I spent most my life not wanting to get up on most days. Got me away from alcohol too. I love you all. Hit 'em solid and straight!

I finally learned how to make a good contact with the ball by getting the hip out of the way and watching all the Malaska videos. Practicing for 6 months basically from everything wrong to hit it like a pro. No kidding!! Malaska is the best out there. (I played when I was a teenager then I stopped for abt 10 years. I never had that good contact with the ball for irons. Making classic amateur mistakes - casting flip turning hips steep etc...)

I've been an athlete my entire life in numerous sports and have been into fitness since age 14 (I'm now 50). And in all those years the one thing I learned that applies to every sport/game that I ever played was that relaxed muscles move faster than tense muscles. So not only do you gain mobility and range of motion when you release all that tension, you also allow your body to move faster by doing that one, simple thing. I'm not by any means a good golfer but I can state with 100% certainty, he's right about that! RELAX has got to be the first thing you do before you try any golf lesson or golf drill. :)

I gotta be honest here ever since I learned the invisible swing IAM loving golf so Effortless and pure it's unbelievable to me really!!!! Not sure I care about distance at this stage IAM looking for accuracy more then anything and it's getting there !!! I purchased clubs that are jacked up a loft so my irons go further anyway !!! Ok that's it just wanna thank you for what you've done for me I never Enjoyed golf more then now !!!!

Hi Mike, thanks for the best explanation re clearing your hips Correctly that I have ever seen. Like a lot of people I have been told repeatedly to rotate hard which Results in leaving the club too far behind, consequently most shots are "over the top" so no control at all. Thanks again. Great lesson. For me at 08.30 your "alignment of arm, club and left hip" is an incredibly powerful explanation of pre impact conditions. Really clarifies a great coordinating moment in the swing. It would be great if you haven't done so already, give us your views on the movement post strike and finish positions in that same simplistic type of example. Great and Thanks Tom UK

When timing up pushing the left hip back (clearing the left hip) with the downswing of the club, when should that happen? Should that happen when left arm parallel on the downswing? When club is last parallel on the downswing? Other?

Whatever speed the club head has if you have no consistand swingplane the speed is a waste so most important is the sequence of body motion to realize a regular swingplane all the time thank you

Now if you could fix my putting yips. I've tried it all from different putters to different grips with nothing is helping. Just before impact my wrist involuntary rotates, sometimes it closes the face sometimes it opens and then either blows the ball way past or sometimes it is way short. I use to be a single digit handicap but now I'm turning 50 and about to quit golf for good. Unfortunately I think it's focal dystonia and there is no cure. Thought maybe somebody of your experience Mike might have had some luck combating the yips. Thanks
@rburkholder100
@rburkholder100 3 года назад
When I got what I call the "impact yips" I started putting with my eyes closed. When you don't see the putter approaching the ball, you can't anticipate impact, so you don't yip with the right hand or rotate the arms. The ball isn't going to move after you close your eyes, so why do you need to look at it? If you have a reasonably repeatable swing path with the putter, just get set up, aim the face and close your eyes and make your stroke. It really works great on short and medium length putts. On longer putts I do open my eyes, but if I ever start yipping the long ones, I will close my eyes. Practice on the putting green starting with short putts, then increase the putt length a couple of feet at a time. You will soon find at what length of putt you start missing more than you make. That's the length where I open my eyes. Varies with green speed of course.

At 1:29 you say that the club 're-hinges' - that is only because you are rolling your forearm during impact. When you demonstrated the 'flip', you DID NOT roll your forearm at all, and your wrist ended up being completely bowed. That is the big difference between the 2 motions - one WITH, and the other WITHOUT, the rolling of the forearm, thereby making the 2 motions looking so much different. By not mentioning or acknowledging the rolling of the forearm you are making the subject more difficult than it really is.
