My Dad served here with the Royal marines. As a kid I played with a hat he brought back Canvas with red star on the front. Complete with entry bullitt hole in front and exit hole at the back. Inside was stained with grey brain matter . I believe it ended up in the Royal marines museum in Eastney Portsmouth

Tqvm for sharing this video. My late father was a senior planter with Harrisons and Crossfield ..he went through the emergency after joining the company in 1953.

Dad was sergeant to a platoon in 'Malaya' - he could barely ever speak about it but he did talk about a bear called Janey that they had rescued and who became their mascot. We never did find out what happened to her

We Malaysians fought against communist guerilla in wars in the jungle until peace treaty in 1989. Communist was the national threat/enemy number 1.

Idiot, during our school days, we have been bluffed by malay historian book writers all bad things about British colonial and nothing good or positive about them. But when we learn about economic and business then you will understand how industrial era in west help create jobs opportunities malaya ;ie in malaya jungle have been cleared to plant rubber and mining which much more have contributed to social economy and social building in Malaya that time.Just imagine if there's industrial in West that time maybe we still stay at jungle and plant paddy/rice..

My god these Australian native kookaburras get around, don't they? The credibility of this film dived to less than zero when the first sound I heard in this film was that of the kookaburras (an Australian native bird). Then when I heard it bein narrated by an American, I thought "That'd be right". Obviously - & very audibly - an American production. Dennis Moore - Australia.

I would be sick to my stomach if I'd gone through SAS training and then found out i'd be sent in to fight civilian population insurgents. Sorry if it rankles a bit but calling them communists is all in good fun, but rounding up civilians putting them in internment camps, starving people forcing them to submit to British rule, , , not a good thing. I'd want to fight Nazis, imperialist Japanese, actual armed militants in uniforms. People who REFUSE to submit to outside intimidation and imperialism are actually the heroes here.

issue is communists were hiding in the population so how do you deal with that

They were brought in from China and India by the Brits, as Coolie. Then they have a thought that Malaya belongs to them..??? They get help from Mainland China..of course Communist and all those civilians(not all) are supporting them.
