My dad was posted to GCHQ [Signals] Tanglin Barracks, Singapore - we went with him [1949-1952]. A month on a troopship, a decent cabin and brilliant food. Before we got into the safety of an MQ in the barracks, we had a civvy bungalow. We had an incident where a Communist 'terrorist', escaping from a shoot out with the police, legged it down our back garden and across some paddy fields. Dad turned up with a 3-tonner load of armed squaddies about 5-10 mins too late to catch him. For about two weeks after that my father would turn up after work with a loaded STEN for nightime security. I recall seeing late marque Spits, also Mosquitoes, Brigands and Lincolns arm up at Changi Airfield [metal matting in those days] - to go and straf and bomb 'up country'. Being a sergeant at GCHQ Signals, my dad was in regular touch with the 'Virgin Soldiers' in bandit country. p.s. I can still remember some Malay and Cantonese.

@myhasdzry Well my old man was out there back in 52, and he had these rifles. They were American carbines with flash deflectors, short and practical for the jungle. He told me that he only put five rounds in the magazine so as to avoid jams. He was a signaller just like the dude at 3:10. He was attached to the Suffolk regiment.

Good news,Nowadays it takes 1 hour to drive to Cameron Highland via Sg Koyan from Kuala Medang and enjoy the view. Then you can proceed to Penang or Kuala Lumpur by the North South Highway.Well,I had served as an Army Officer (formed by Gen Templer now Known as Royal Malaysian Armoured Corps) during the Malaysia/Indonesia Confrontation,Communist uprising in Sarawak ,Communist Insurgency Ops at Malaysia/Thailand Border and in Sabah (North Borneo) during threats of Phillipines claim of the State.

@Michael, thanks for this clip. This is definitely something I can share with my children. Although they will only recognize a portion of Jelai river just down from Kuala Medang from the clip. As recent as 25 years ago, there were still road blocks between Bentong and Raub to check for communist insurgency. With the threat gone nowadays, new roads have been constructed and far reaching places like Cameron Highlands and Gua Musang are now accessible in under 2 hours from Kuala Medang. On behalf

I've had the privilage to serve in our Royal Malay Regiment at the height of the communist threat as did my father, uncles and cousins. I also had the honor to meet out commonwealth veterans in Kuala Lumpur. In the video the soldiers wore the cloth band around their jungle hat as a form of identification between friend and foe. During my time it qas not seemed practical any more.

Bertempur dgn platun askar melayu di pantai pontian, bertempur dgn opv tldm... hahaha

Tanah Melayu or malaya is under colonial rule. we cannot change history bro. the rifle used might be Mark IV and i saw sten gun in the video. looks like a major operation with air support nearby. a luxury at that moment. by the look at the dense bamboo jungle, it might be at the titiwangsa mountain ranges towards perak-pahang border. my late father is in the 1st malay regiment 1951. my mother still have photos of him in such jungle situation.
