Hi, we're Jesper & Vanessa! We have had a passion for traveling since we met in 2013. Since then we have been working towards the goal of being able to travel full-time. We left our corporate jobs in the end of 2018, packed one carry-on bag each and left the comfort of our home in Sweden to go out and explore the unknown. We are now traveling full-time since June 2019 and are happy to take you with us on our journey exploring the world!

well no one does a good mee goreng which is actually called mee goreng mamak, mamak being a slang for Indian Muslims, none spicy**** at least to an Indian taste buds ... if is not an Indian Muslim in a stall or a restaurant please ask the level of spicy..ness of the dish before ordering it as many Indian based food and those copied by Malaysare spicy at certain level ...

The beauty of durian ... 1. You cannot describe the taate or the smell 2. You either hate or love it. So it is not for everyone. 3. Every durian is unique and varies...with different % of sweetness, bitterness and some alcohol flavour 4. A forbidden fruit in hotels, public transport etc. 5. The most expensive fruit esp for the premium ones 6. The fruit where people organise a party/social gathering with...durian party or durian feast. Hmmm...I really think it is a special and mysterious fruit. I am still trying to figure why is it created with hard thorn?

Welcome to Malaysia! Since you're a vegetarian like myself and do not eat spicy foods, make sure you tell the food vendors. Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese dish. Chinese medicine is added to the broth. Most Bak Kut Teh sold are meat based. Pork are used for the cooking. Bak Kut Teh are Chinese words. Bak means meat, Kut means bone and Teh means tea. Most westerners don't like durian because of the stinkly smell. So, I suggest that you don't take it. However the locals love it. It is a very expensive fruits. Most foods sold in Malaysia are non Vegetarian. However, you can tell the food vendors not to include meat in the dishes. Always asked first. If you happen to visit the Twin Towers, there is Buddhist temple nearby which is 10 walk. They serve many vegetarian dishes for lunch between 11.00am to 2.00pm. The canteen is located at the back of the temple. This temple is a tourist area. Westerners also take their lunches in this temple. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xyZB91SfgFE.html

Thank you Kenny! Thanks for clearing that up and for all that good info! 😃 Durian is indeed a pretty expensive fruit! It would have been super nice to visit the Buddhist temple and eat there, unfortunately we are no longer in Malaysia, but if we found ourselves in KL again we definitely must go there! Thanks again Kenny! 😊

I'm Malaysian, and Jalan Alor is indeed one of the best place to indulge for food. The vegetarian tofu soup you ordered is Bakuteh soup. Bakuteh is literally "Pork Bone Tea". The soup is cooked with pork and pork bones, that's what the base of the soup is. What they did was probably not put the meat on it, but the base of the soup is pork bones. As for Durians, you need time to adapt to the smell and taste. Give it a few go on separate occasions, once you start to enjoy it, you'll get hooked and addicted to it. Go for the best of the best "Musang King".

In Malaysia you can always ask for the vegetarian food. Tell the waiter no chicken, no meat, only to cook food with vegetables. You can also tell them for less spicy or not spicy food. Malaysian food can always be customised. 😛

The bak gu teh soup u had is probably meat and bone base. Vegetarian bak gu teh base soup usually would be more bitter because of the usage of Chinese medicine but it would have more complex and depth to the flavor.

Hi guys. I have traveled extensively throughout Asia but not yet to Malaysia. I can't tolerate hot spicy food. Eating street food, how easy was it to specify no hot spices at all (as sometimes if you don't state that they still make it less spicy which is still much too hot for me), as well as have find street foods that are not prepared to be hot? I prefer not eating main dishes that are sweet or deep fried. Stir fry is good.

Bak Kut Teh is invented by the Chinese workers in Port Klang(there’s some other theories). Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese slang, Bak(肉Meat) Kut(骨Bone) Teh(茶Tea). When the Chinese workers are handling bags of herbs, some scraps will fall from holes of the bag. One day one genius decided to collect the scraps and boil them to make a broth/tea. And as the days go by they found out adding meat and bones makes the broth taste better, and that’s how it got the name Bak Kut Teh

To like durian is an acquired taste...when i was a kid i hated it, first time trying it made me vomit..but i grew up with it, some malay dishes have durian in it as ingredient. And my grandfather has an orchid for durian trees so growing up smelling it and tasting it (mild taste when it is put in some dishes) got me used to it and now as an average Malaysian adult, i even grew up to love Durian so much lol

Jalan alor are to pricy for malaysia food. Go find night market(pasar malam) around kl that u can find almost every night. The price 3x cheaper and u can find a lot of traditional malaysia food.

If you focus on eating durian, you will think that you are eating cream. That cake cream. Just focus on the meat and dont think about the smell. You will feel like it a cream

- Heh heh, was actually waiting for you guys to rate the durian on a surstromming scale from one to ten on stinkiness. (hats off to you for actually trying it though!) - Vegetarianism actually does play a large part in both the Chinese and Indian populace of Malaysia (unfortunately, Jalan Alor being more geared for tourists, would have been the wrong place to find it) - For Jesper (the peanut fan), I hope he got to try apam balik while he was over there.

Hahaha surströmming is so bad! I think that Durian doesn't even come close, maybe a 3. It's not that bad, it's when you smell it almost everywhere you get kinda get tired of the smell 😄 Yes, Jalan Alor, wasn't the place for us. I think we did try apam balik on our Street food video in Chinatown. Is it like a pancake with peanut butter? If so he did, or we both really liked it! So good 😋👍🏽

@@JesperandVanessa I think it's the methane/onion smell coupled with the sticky texture that turns most Westerners off! [] Ya, I DID see that the both of you approved of the Chinatown squidgy pancake, both fillings (^_^ the dangers of commenting before watching all the videos in one go). Btw, another suggestion for Jesper is (phonetic spelling) 'Fa sahng wu' in Chinese eateries, and 'Chendol' for Vanessa in Malaysia/Singapore if you should ever visit again.

@@goodguyaus Hehe yeah, I love onions maybe that's why I'm ok with the smell 😄 Hahaha 😅 Omg both if them sounds delicious! 🤤 We definitely need to try them out if we found ourselves in Malaysia/Singapore again, thanks for the recommendation! 😊👍🏽

@@JesperandVanessa You're welcome :)! Final suggestion(s) - dun wanna bother you guys anymore: some tidbits to bring home (dependent upon Swedish Customs of course!) as you venture round S.E.A., crispy fried shallots & satay sauce (am pretty sure it's vegan even though the main meal isn't) for Jesper's accoutrements, and Love Letter Biscuits (light, airy, fragrant) for Vanessa's Netflix snacks.

@@goodguyaus hehe you don't 😊 Yummy! Fried shallots 😋 That Netflix snacks sounds 👌🏽 thanks again! 😁
