Fantastic! I’m so looking forward to following in your footsteps by finishing Novels of the Malazan Empire. Esslemont is one of the greats of modern fantasy!
What a great interview! Mr. Esselmont mentions travels in South America as well as Asia that had influences on his writing. That is fascinating to me because (for me) *POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW* Blood and Bone felt like it was set in the jungles of the Amazon, or perhaps the jungles of Cambodia or an amalgam of them. How cool!
I'm loving this so far! When I think back on the ICE books, it's the nautical stuff I remember the most. It truly is cinematic writing for the high seas bits. Seeya at the NoK quiz on 2nd April, dude! I'm stealing some of that sea-faring stuff for the theme too! 🍻
A little late to the party but thnaks for such an awesome interview with the second mastermind behind Malazan. I hope you will continue with Path to Acendancy and can interview him again once the next book is out.
To avoid spoilers, am very glad that a certain character is not another character for exactly the reasons provided. Which will be something for fans to chew on for some time until a sequel comes out. Unless he will turn up in Witness somewhere.
Wow IJ awesome, good Collab with 10 and ICE is really gr8 in this,I love that he knows not to correct mispronunciation,I would think because a good author/creator knows that each reader makes of the material their own interpretation and messing with that messes with their enjoyment of it.If u get the chance again please ask either he or SE about Temper one of ICE's go to greatest charcters. He is referred 3 times over all books as being Kellenveds son but that possibly could be considered something to do with his guarding of the deadhouse but I only came to that thought because they often refer to K&D as plumbing the azath thru their initial taking up residence in the deadhouse and I know that's not touched on much in ICE's prequal series but mentioned constantly in previous series.Honestly I'm not an addict or anything I just have really good recall from read words and these series keep me occupied so much more than others.I think when interviewing these guys the fact of them being archeologists and anthropologists and how much that went towards their incredible world and culture invention and progression.sometimes I wonder if I've read all the best but to me none touch what I get from the Malazan world. Here here for keeping it going I read them all again because of your channel and they were better the 3rd time.thanx
Great video and interesting bombshells. Interesting that "path to ascendancy" seems to now actually branch into a plural. Sad to maybe get less empire, but stoked for the possible lore aspects that may be enriched by those books.
