A little look into the tree clans of Wickans that Coltaine brought to Seven Cities. The Foolish Dog, Weasel, and Crow clans are all fairly distinct from eachother in myriad ways, but it can still be a little hard to picture them throughout Deadhouse Gates. Hopefully this helps with imaginations, especially when paired with the DHG Battles I've been doing!

"Skin threading" most likely refers to intentional scars in tribal patterns that are then tattooed to add depth to the design

That's what I was originally thinking and researching too, but I came across the method that actually uses thread to tattoo among the Tlingit people and others. That made me go down quite the rabbit hole and I forgot to talk about the other methods lol

I'm so glad to see another video from you! I was afraid you were done! Great discussion of the Wickans, definitely some of my favorite peoples in Malazan. Somehow I had not picked up that the weasel clan had blue skin! lol. I'm very excited you mentioned you will continue to do battle analysis videos. I initially found your content because I simply could not get my head around what was going on in some of the Chain of Dogs battles and your videos definitely helped me to continue with Malazan. I hope you continue to cover all major battles in the Malazan Book of the Fallen! Currently I'm making my way through Bonehunters, and it has been a wild ride.

Glad you're still enjoying the videos, more on the way. Editing Vathar right now. Yeah I didn't notice the blue skin my first few reads, but was very interested when I saw. Erikson doesn't like giving too many detailed descriptions but when he does, I love it. Bonehunters has some of my favorite scenes, hope you enjoy the ride!

@@gracelesspassion1750 i think I've read most of them or all of them I find them less memorable than SE and I think that's because I grew up performing in theatre and reading things like James Joyce and Shakespear so I prefer his admittedly verbose prose.

Amazing video. Keep making them! Though their storyline is one of my favorites in Malazan, the Wickans were a fairly straightforward adaptation of the Native American cultures. Thought the Awl were more interesting conceptually for me.

Hi there! I am an artist and have done a large amount of Malazan fan art. Recently I have done sigils for several of the series' groups and wanted to do ones for the Wickan clans. Your video (and Sim's art) was invaluable in reminding me of the Foolish Dog's skeleton banner. The Crow's is pretty self-evident. But is there any explicit mention of the Weasel banner/symbol? I speed-read through most of DHG but couldn't find any reference. Anyway, thanks for this great video. (If you want to see my fan art, let me know and I'll share my portfolio with you)

I know who you are, I'm a big fan of your art! Always love when you post to reddit. Unfortunately there weren't any descriptions of their banner that I could find during my research, they didn't get as much page time as the other two clans. Simi created a banner using a weasel paw marking, but she came up with that herself to match the style I requested. The only explicit descriptions of Weasel were: Blue skin, black tattoos, threaded skin, and filed teeth (After Sekala). It would make sense to me if the sigil was a weasel paw or even a weasel head since the other two Clans have pretty straight forward banners. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
