Because how was just a nice guy. Not perfect but not nefarious. I had a similar situation this week when I saw a TikTok about white girls on a high school sports team putting on eyeblack that get progressively weirder and the last girl had thick eyebrows and a mustache painted on. All the comments were like "I was afraid of where this was going" and then it finally hit me that everyone else was thinking it was going to end in blackface, but that didn't even cross my mind.

@@NoRU-vidName1 The argument may BE silly, and the dialogue may be portraying a silly way of thinking but the way he delivers it like he's convinced of it and firmly stating it aloud is literally just as intense as when he does it in Breaking Bad, if the dialogue was simply about something serious, and all the ambience was built to accomodate such a mood I assure you there would be no noticable difference

i do really love how malcolm’s family started rubbing off on stevie’s as the show went on, like stevie became increasingly like malcolm and abe started adapting hal’s craziness. there was that one episode where malcolm said whatever his family was that made them so dysfunctional was contagious, and i think they did a good job proving that as the show went on

Stevie's family was all sorts of fucked up well before he befriended Malcolm. His mom was such a huge control freak, she was insane. Then she abandoned her family out of the blue. No wonder Stevie and Abe changed after such a traumatic event and Malcolm's family were always there for them.

I love how at the end of the episode he talks about how sad he is that Abe is his best friend and he was excited to meet his other friends. And Abe admits he was nervous, too, and things just snowballed.

He became Heisenberg for a moment there! And I mean that sincerely, you could really see Cranston's acting chops in this scene. Cranston was such a hilarious goofball as Hal, but his sincere moments were always played to perfection by as well.

I especially like the fact they are total bros, like the episode where the poker crew talks about relationships and casually ask Hal how many times a week he has sex. “14” Abe stood up to the guffaws and said “trust me, I’ve been on vacation with this guy, he’s underselling himself.” That’s a bro who’s kinda tired of Hal’s good sex life but also jealous. 🤣🤣🤣

As someone who has been watching Malcolm since 2000 and is one of the few shows I own on DVD that I watch to this day - it makes me smile seeing all this appreciation from new and old watchers alike. This show is absolutely phenomenal. Edit - Changed 1999 to 2000. I got the debut year wrong sorry.

I do the same thing with South Park. I always remember it debuting in 1996 because I was in 6th grade, but it didn't actually air until 1997. But I do remember that our middle school tried to outlaw SP shirts and iron-ons and backpacks. I'll never forget how they made one kid turn his shirt inside-out because he wore a South Park shirt with Cartman on the front, with a caption that said, "Yeah I want Cheezy Poofs".

For real, the main cast was beyond perfection, but Hal and Abe's friends, the krelboynes, Otto and Gretchen, Lavernia, Eric, commandant Spangler, Herkabe, Cynthia, Piama and specially Stevie and Cloris Leachman were all amazing, hell, even smaller characters like Finley and Stanley had their funny moments. Underrated show.

@@grantn.9061 well earlier in the episode we saw the scene where he was the only white guy but the audience didn’t know they were all professionals except Hal. so I think the first joke hinges more on what the audience thought he would say. Dramatic irony.
