My parents told me very early to never EVER say “I hate you” during an argument and I took it seriously so seeing characters throw it around like that shocks me more than any cursing does
Especially the "I wish you were dead!" part. I know that was primarily to go with the theme of the episode which was Hal's health scare but I realized from very early on with the help of some influence from certain movies and advice from family that I really never would wish for anyone I care about to be dead and have always made an effort to never say anything like that and in general I don't understand why people can't seem to be rational even when they're angry or upset.
That's how my wife reacted to my family's arguments. She comes from a very close family where they never cus at, or insult each other, (upfront at least.) It was a culture shock to her when she saw my parents openly cus me and my brother out, but I think it was even more shocking when she heard my brother cus back at my parents.
Yeah. Here in Latam... we are very family oriented... and we dont have that type of argument... but we do have fist fights betwen brothers while drunk or in rare cases. A son leaving his family behind to never been seen again.
He does get angry at the boys when they do stuff that's very serious and he goes into Zero Tolerance. Hal goes into strict parent on them. 1. When Reese showed a lack of compassion and empathy for sabotaging the other contestants' food entry, Lois's yelling at him proved ineffective. Hal calmly punished him by barring him from cooking meals, including no baking, broiling, Cordon Blues, etc. This was the only time Reese whined and lost his new found privilege. Lois was impressed by Hal's way of punishing him. 2. When Francis emancipated himself and left Marlin Academy, Hal was on full parent mode and chased after him. He was basically screaming like a little girl while Hal yelled at him. 3. When Malcolm came home late from curfew after staying too long at Nicki's house and Hal was enraged. He not only punished Malcolm, but also kicked him out and which he regretfully took back. 4. When Reese did a horrible prank involving a baseball bat and cats at his school, Hal was screaming at him in gibberish. He and Lois immediately kicked Reese out. 5. When Dewey was caught smoking cigarettes, he got yelled at by Hal. Once he realized that they were from his secret stash hidden in the garage, he gave Dewey a free pass. Depending on how serious the crime is and which Lois can't know, he decided how each of his boys will use it. For Francis, he handcuffed himself to a pole at the strip club and Hal was enraged by his behavior, while making him give back the dollar bill he stole from the stripper. For Reese, he put roller skates on a donkey and inadvertently killed it. Hal was dismayed and embarrassed by this. For Malcolm, he was conducting a science experiment which went wrong and burned both his and Hal's hair off. 6. When Francis refused to take responsibility for himself and kept blaming Lois for his miserable life, Hal was so annoyed and ripped up the loan papers. He confronts Francis for hurting her the most with his behavior and lying about his alcohol addiction. Hal gave him a month to get his life in order or else he will be on his own. Francis eventually did get his life back together after doing some soul searching and Dewey advising him.
To be fair I don't think either Lois or Hal were thinking too rationally in this episode due to their concern over his health scare but yes they should have been more logical and transparent for sure.
I understand Lois and Hal were dealing with his health scare but Lois was way out of line by taking it out on the boys. Some moments I agree the boys need the reprimanded, but in this scenario earlier in the episode, she couldn't handle her emotions reacting to Hals heath issue and took it out on her sons unfairly
@@connorvenier5843 Out of line? Yeah the mud was over the top, she should've just made them clean it up. But sneaking out in the middle of the night? Who knows where they could've been. I would've grounded them for months too.
I don't blame Reese for saying that. Lois, like many other occasions, was outta line and took it out on the boys and never once considered letting them in on Hal's possible cancer 🙄
Lois was beyond awful to her sons in this episode and it exemplifies that she can indeed be a legitimately terrible mother at times and that she is far from being a blameless victim of her “inherently” bad children! She is displacing all her anger and frustration over Hal’s potential cancer on to Reese and Malcolm for a minor mistake (the mud), not letting them know about the situation and treats them like convicts in their own home…. It’s no wonder why her kids are all screwed up!
She was also a horrible mother in the episode in which she made Dewey's life a living hell on the airport just because she wanted him to have a cool story to tell... the worst part is that Dewey, being as smart as he is, said that she was right.
@@carson11100And who could forget Evacuation, Malcolm’s Girlfriend and Hal’s Birthday? Lois is sometimes abusive to the boys, which is why they are how they are in the first place.
I love Evacuation and Hal's Birthday because Lois then gets something bad in response But an episode that really pissed me off was the garage sale and stilts@@carson11100
Yeah, but I don't think she was in the right in this episode either. Yes, Reese and Malcom should know better than to bring mud in the house, but at least they offered to clean it up.
They're definitely little shits, but Lois was just taking out her fear & anger about Hal's health on the boys. That wasn't fair to them at all, especially since they didn't know about the circumstances.
If he were alive today, Mr. Disney would NOT be happy about what his company had become over the years. He would've marched into the current CEO's office and reprimanded him harshly.
I often think parents expect/imagine some sort of emotional refinement in children and teenagers that simply is not there. Children are little, egocentric monsters and when it comes to teenagers who is trying to find their way in the borderland between childhood and adulthood you should multiply that with hundred.
Lois and Hal should have told Reese and Malcolm the real reason why Lois has became more angry in this episode than usually because of her concern for Hal's health and maybe Reese wouldn't have said an awful/thoughtless thing about wishing that theyre dead.
Never say I wish you were dead to your parents… because eventually you will come to regret saying that to your parents I should know because I said that to my dad when i was a kid and he actually ended up dead now that I’m 25 years old I regret saying that to him wish my dad was in my life.
Lois really didn't have to vent Hal's health scare on the boys over something little and stupid like mud on the floor. She should have just let Reese clean it up like he said he would. But instead of preparing them for the worst, she decides to do what she does best: yell and punish.
@@cooliostarstache5474Well that’s Lois & Hal’s own fault for not letting letting their boys in on the situation, and instead venting their frustration over a minor thing, and punishing them unfairly. They’re the Worst Parents of All Time! And you can’t really blame for how their boys turned out, especially the ones who suffered the most, Francis & Malcolm
WHAT IF: Resse: THIS FAMILY SUCKS! YOU ARE RUINING OUR LIVES! I WISH YOU WERE DEAD! Lois and Hal are stunned. With a shocked expression, Lois faints onto the kitchen floor. Hal tends to her. Malcolm: What was that all about? Reese: I don't know. She usually just says, "I'm taking you with me."
Malcolm and Reese are shown outside of the house, Hal and Lois angrily kicked them out of the house and they leave then as before Lois "called" Francis but a different number and harshly disowned him, Malcolm and Reese telling him to stay the hell out of her life Then she trashes the boys room and breaks down as Hal and Lois tearfully comfort each other and Dewey is finally free of Malcolm and Reese
I often see comments suggesting that Lois's parenting makes sense considering how her boys behave, but at moments like this, you realize that she can *really* go overboard, which probably helps explain why the boys are so defiant.
Absolutely! Well said! Yet she portrays herself as being a blameless victim cursed with inherently evil children that she has every right to treat like filthy convicts! It’s her domineering personality and traumatizing childhood that has led to her sons becoming destructive delinquents who thrive on defiance!
hal and lois were bad parents, that their kids wouldn't respect them. as lois was the worst, that her kids wouldn't respect her the most. hal and lois did loved their kids but they just didn't knew how to be good parents since they weren't bright.
@@fullmetalgamer6062YOU DO NOT TALK TO YOUR MOTHER THAT WAY, EVER! YOU WILL SHOW HER NOTHING BUT THE LOVE AND RESPECT SHE DESERVES, WHETHER I AM HERE OR NOT!!!
WHAT IF: Resse: THIS FAMILY SUCKS! YOU ARE RUINING OUR LIVES! I WISH YOU WERE DEAD! Lois and Hal are stunned. Malcolm turns to the CAMERA. Malcolm (to CAMERA): Oh, boy. In this family, that's what we called "The Closer." Resse and I now know we're definitely not living here for the next few days. The only question left is who gets to take the credit. Malcolm turns to his parents. They all stood for a moment. Until the BOLT to they living room. Hal: YOU TWO ARE KICKED OUT! Malcom/Resse: WE'RE LEAVING! Lois: NOT IF WE GET TO THE DOORKNOB FIRST! They all pull the doorknob and open the door. Lois/Hal: YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!!!! Malcolm/Resse: WE'RE OUTTA HERE!!! Resse: Tie goes to the runners. Malcolm and Resse leave.
Then Lois goes on the phone and "calls" Francis but it was the wrong number and she loudly and harshly disowned Francis for emancipating himself and to never ever come back to the house ever again telling him and malcolm and reese to get the hell out of her life and she is not their mother anymore Then Lois goes to the boys room and destroyed everything in it saying goodbye and good riddance to Malcolm, Reese and Francis then Hal ran in to stop her and she breaks down about Hal and they tearfully hug each other over Hal's health scare and Dewey continued eating cereal then he went to bed finally free of Malcolm and Reese's wrath Hal and Lois never saw or spoke to Malcolm, Reese and Francis again then when Hal's test came back negative a neighbor came over to the house over Lois's "call" the previous night and she was confused while Hal went into the boys room and wondered why it was trashed
Malcolm and Reese are seen enjoying life living with Craig and having forgotten about Lois and Hal. They have normal friends and can be normal teens. Francis comes back and demands both Malcolm and Reese to come back home and fight their parents. Both refuse because this is the first time in their lives that they've been very happy. Malcolm and Reese have their own rooms and Craig is a great legal guardian to them. Francis reiterates that they need to stick together and fight Hal and Lois. Despite this, Malcolm and Reese refuses and tells him to leave.
@@ladyfire44 after finding out Hal's test was negative Hal learned what they did and goes to a park to make amends to Malcolm and Reese and tell them to come home but Hal sadly decides for the best if they don't come back same with Francis but he does not tell Lois anything about it having fully moved on the moment they left and wished Malcolm and Reese the best of luck then he cries in his car guilty over what happened also after being told by Malcolm and Reese that Lois is completely done with Francis, Francis looks at the house outside about to fight Hal and Lois for what they did but he decides to never go back to that house and cuts all ties except for his brothers and Hal also snuck outside to say goodbye to him and before leaving Francis says you and especially Lois won and its the last time Hal will ever see Francis and Francis will have a exciting life where he can be himself and never to please anyone but himself leaving distraught back to Alaska telling him their sons leaving their lives is Lois's prize saying she wins but he later got over it while Hal went back inside very upset and regretful the only son he has now is Dewey and Lois brought everything that happened on herself and Malcolm, Reese, and Francis are not his sons anymore Lois on the other hand felt free and happy and doesn't acknowledge her elder children exist and she remarked she should have kicked them out a long time ago while Dewey was enjoying the freedom and never complained while Craig never mentioned he became the guardian of Malcolm and Reese agreeing with Hal to never tell Lois of it ever and knows Malcolm with his high IQ will be fine and Reese being a culinary prodigy will get a restaurant job and Malcolm and Reese made sure to never shop at lucky aide
@@sublimeeinsano6320Malcolm, Reese and Francis lived happily ever after, Dewey enjoyed the freedom away from his brothers, Hal became a better father to Dewey and Lois showed no remorse or regrets for her actions that led to her children leaving her and the boys made sure to stay out of her way for good
*A casual tantrum of ill-wishing later* "What was that about?" "I know, right? Usually she says, 'if I'm going, I'm taking you with me.'" I guess it's the norm in any dysfunctional family.
How dare you! How dare you defy us like that! Seriously, seeing Lois this angry at being defied is one of the best scenes, considering how she handed out punishments so casually.
"you'll show your mother the love and respect she deserves!" For what? All she does is treat them like garbage and criminals in the making, she doesn't deserve to have them piss in her mouth if she was dying of thirst...
How? all they ever do is get into trouble. Lois may have a rough childhood with her parents, but she’s trying her best to be better than them. Reese, Malcolm, and worst of All Francis caused so much trouble and stressing the hell outta them. You can’t blame her for trying to teach them right from wrong. All Lois is doing was becoming a good parent, yeah she may have taken things too far sometimes. But, she goes to work to provide for her children, give them the love of a mother that she never had, and all she can get from her own children is nothing but a fist full of crap. Children act on their own time and make choices on their own. They’re always consequences when comes to making choices. These kids never think when they do things.
Respect works both ways. Pearents should not set ridiculous; unacomplishable goals, otherwise their kids will never feel like they ve done enough. Kids in turn need to honor their pearents, not love them. They need to respect the fact that pearents sacrifice and bend over backwards . As long as the children remain under their parents roof, that wont change.
@@BoyKagomeThose are bare essentials everyone needs to live. You should not be thanking your parents for not neglecting you to death after they brought you into this world. Sure it’s nice if you did, but they’re literally obligated by law to provide you those things, you didn’t ask to be here and no matter how you go about it, becoming a parent is inherently selfish (not parenting). YOU had a kid because YOU wanted to be a parent. You didn’t have a child for the child’s own good.
At first Hal and Lois was like this is gonna be hard to tell the boys since they are in a good mood but when Reese and Malcom got mud on the floor they make it difficult
My idiot brother when he was a softmore he got into trouble with a friend of his and recorded a fight near the police station and they detained him and boy did he get a strict lecture from my old man
Same. They may not be perfect and we can get on each other's nerves at times but at the end of the day I still adore my family and it's absolutely devastating to know that eventually they won't be around anymore.
0:47 Hey Dude who are you wishing someone to be dead, I beg your pardon you know that you’re going to be in trouble for doing that as you’re acting like Danny and Kurt, William, Leland, London, and Leanna, Jayden, Warren Cook, Zara Dawson, and even Billy Spunkygal
True. Sneaking out in the dead of night via an escape tunnel to go to God knows where for how long and for who knows what is definitely crossing the line and as a parent I’d be furious too…. However Lois started all of it by withholding Hal’s potential illness and grounding the boys for a minor mistake they promised to fix…….
0:47 That was the last thing I said to my own mother back in 2011. Just before I left my home and went across country to England. We didn’t speak to each other after that… I had to hear from my Brother that She died in 2013.
My gut tells me this is not supposed to be taken seriously but people in the comments are saying this the harshest confrontation the family has ever had
i never understood why lois ran away and cried when reese told her that he hated her guts and wished that she was dead. like did lois REALLY felt hurt by that remark?
