I have a 5 yr old son, since he was about 2 I have always referred to the police as “good guys” because god forbid he ever needs help from an officer he will have no fear to go and ask. When we see an officer in a parking lot, after a parade or wherever I take him over to give a high five and I think the officers are usually more excited than him because they feel appreciated. Point is, the relationship between law enforcement and private citizens starts in your own house. If you raise your kids to fear, hate, not respond so on and so on you are continuing the friction. Community starts in your own home

sadly the only thing the mass media corporations are showing is tragedy, they are not interested to sell solutions or ways to solve or reflect on the current issues from mid/long term. At least things are changing, people are talking more about issues and it is up to people to require change for the people they voted, to represent them, and not tackling on the issue is not serving them.

Malcolm Jenkins shows class and poise in the video. Thanks for representing Philly. I left in 1986 to join the Marine Corps. I did not return after burying my mother. Today, I’m heartbroken and not happy. The city has 560 murders and counting. I made a conscious decision to leave Philly in 1992. I left active service in September 1992 to fulfill my late mother’s request and get a college degree. Graduated from Colorado Technical University with a master’s degree in Management August 2020.

The real issue in urban neighborhoods is that when something goes down, no body seems to have seen anything. When something bad happens to someone close to them, they claim that the cops are not doing anything to help. Maybe turn off the camera when the cops are jamming up a thug who is terrorizing your hood and threatening your family.

I respect Malcom Jenkins for taking the steps to meet with civic leaders and police departments. If Malcom were the one to lead this protest using the NFL platform there would have been alot less discourse. Kaepernick denied invites from police departments and civic leaders because he made his narrative up after getting caught pouting on the sideline in street clothes. When pressed he hit the panic button and the only thing he could come up with is social injustice by police. He denied any dialogue with the groups he pointed blame at. I guess he just wanted his voice heard and then step back and put the onus on everyone else to fix it while he kneels! Malcom took the time to get into the problem and to see and hear the at risk communities. And what he heard is enlightening, the community leaders were not blaming the police, they let it be known there are many factors that go into it but that the families need to step up and get more involved. The one thing he said that interests me is that, when approached in the inner cities they are approached harder than someone approached in the suburbs. Comparing the 2 is apples to oranges. How often does a stop get out of control in the suberbs and how often in the inner cities. We as people need to understand that and not worry about other places and people but to just mind ourselves. Comparing will never move you forward unless using it as motivation to get better.

I’m white and will admit I have a problem with authority and anger issues, I don’t blame anyone else for my actions. My last runnin with the law was dropping my son off the first day of school. Drive in line was very long. Busses who park on the red sidewalk had already made their drop and left so as soon as I was able I pulled a u turn and quickly dropped my son off there also this is the same area cops routinely use radar to bust people speeding, though at that moment there wasn’t any police. Well as soon as I dropped my son and start to pull out I see flashing lights so I simply waited. The motorcycle cop said I was parked in the red and I was like no I didn’t park I just dropped my son same as the busses do so why is it okay for only busses to drop off? He wasn’t having that. I gave him my info as he went back to his bike and proceeded to make me wait for a long time all the while I’m on display for other parents in their cars, and all the while my anger was growing! I get out to give this cop a piece of my mind and his hand immediately goes to his gun as he tells me quite forcefully to get back in my car!! I’m thinking this MF just reached for his gun!! Anyways he finally comes around with a warning ticket. I apologized and said thank you sir and assured him I would NEVER do that again. Some of my point is to mention that life isn’t always fair and I could of jumped up and down whooped and holered about wtf the cops and busses can park in red but I can’t drop my son off there??!! I could have let anger get the best of me but I didn’t, instead I tried my best to be respectful and not get tazed or worse and in the end it all worked out.

I don't believe police - across the board - treat you like a criminal off the bat. Your own attitude towards them sets the tone. Police can't come across as ''one of the guys''. They need to set that boundary as an authority figure. If you've ever managed people in the workplace you will be aware of something similar. Be too friendly and buddy-buddy and you lose your influence over your staff. They won't take you seriously and will try walking all over you. Not saying you must be a dick, but set the tone that yes, you a person, the weather is nice and I hope the kids are well but we're here to do a job.

EVERY TIME the officer tried providing an explanation as to why certain. Things are the way they are (and within the laws of the USA) Jenkins had some explanation to excuse the officers explanation. What a headache. Id never want this dude on a ride along. This is the mindset of these “athlete activists”. It’s no different than talking to someone who is anti police on the street during a patrol shift. They pretend to listen and then just go back to their original opinion. Which is narrow minded and ignorant. Plus The ONLY reason those community “leaders” at the rec center were smiley and high fives is cuz Jenkins was there. The ONLY reason. SMH.

This did seem worthless to not let him go on a ride along that showed what they really deal with but at least Mr. Jenkins is trying to do something more. You get all these athletes that disrespect the National Anthem and say they are doing it for justice but as soon as they leave the stadium and go home to their $5 million dollar houses they lose interest.

The immediate problem is that most of the time, the police aren't willing or able to help. Most cases go unsolved, even with public cooperation. Add to that the antagonistic dynamic between communities of color and the police, especially in a city that not too too long ago bombed a Black family in their home and burned two blocks to the ground on local news, and a culture of not being involved with the police is sure to spring forward. Taking it one level further, marginalized and impoverished communities have no real reason to trust the capital- and property-protection wings of the governments that marginalized and impoverished them in the first place. Ofttimes, people feel that if any justice is gonna be served in a situation they faced, it's not gonna be served in a jailhouse or a courthouse.

I thought to myself a badge does not make you the law at all, the judge and jury decide and you work for them. Power trips and suburbanite raised officers policing in dangerous areas is another problem. They have not been exposed to the other side of the tracks to have a true understanding.

You are really dumb, you need to learn about military history. Me? i;ve been serving for 8 years, so waht I'm gonna tell you is fact. Kneeling for a fallen soilder, sailor, airmen, or marine, shows respect when they have passed away.Kneeling for flag that is still flying and kneeling for a flag for protest is a sign of disrespect to the flag and teh country. Kneeling, is almost as bad as burnimg. We say, "Stand for teh national anthem" becuse standing shows respect, not kneeling. Thank you, Next.
