When I was in high school (more than a decade ago), I also had rabbits, and the way we used to determine the sex was by feeling if the rabbit had testes or not. This, however, could only be done when the rabbits were more mature and the testes had developed, and wasn't possible with younger rabbits. I'm just not sure at what age the testes "drop" so you can determine it that way. Do you perhaps know?

So I hear a lot that having rabbits down on the ground will cause a lot of diseases for them, can you make a video going over how you guys prevent that or dispelling some myths/what you have experienced? I plan to have about 6 does, so I will need tractors or large grow out pens and tractors seem to be the better way to go.

Thank you for your excellent videos. Since Sept 30 we grew two males to maturity and also have three breeding female rabbits. The older mother provided three full size rabbits which we ate. The new mom provided seven kits which are 30 days old and we're just weened. The older mom is only yielding two to three kits. We are now bringing a new mom on board but she only yielded two kits. We have five 10 day old kits and are expecting another litter in a week. I'm hoping to be able to process seven to 14 rabbits every six weeks.

Holy crap, the instructor to find the difference between a male or female squirrel is right. It's very difficult to tell the difference between a male or female bunny. Fun fact, Bunny is my favorite animal, squirrel is my 2nd favorite animal.

Very good instructional video. Your rabbits are beautiful, can the fur be used? It looks like you have a rabbit fur hat on.

It is a rabbit fur hat! But not from our rabbits. Unfortunately when you process rabbits at a young age for meat the hide is not very usable. The fur is beautiful but the skin is very thin and delicate. We have preserved some hides when we processed breeder rabbits as they are much older.

I have gotten 3 young rabbits which are supposed to be 2 does and a buck. However, the older they get and I give them a look to see if I can tell what sex they are, the more I think that I have 3 does.

I had a pet rabbit when I was a kid, lived for 8 years, but I never knew what it was because I never bothered to ask at the pet shop. I tried to determine with pictures on the internet and I think it was a boy, but was never 100% sure. A video like this would have been really helpful but youtube didn't exist back then. Wow I feel old now lol.

In her series Raising meat rabbits she covers the law issues and how everyone should check the regulations in your own state. Sarah and Kevin are in complete compliance with their state laws so they do not have issues with the Health department.

Is it normal out of 12 rabbits to have 2 females and 10 males born out of two litters? I was sorting them between two new tractors because some mating behaviors were starting at two months. I raise a large breed so I typically wait until 2.5 to 3 months before processing.

While it is definitely uncommon, it's not abnormal. We just had an entire litter of males. Of course it was the litter that I wanted a doe out of!

Do you separate males from females after weaning from mom so no mating happens? You didn’t cover this. Or it doesn’t matter? Now in the other video you said Old male and younger female, so I am assuming that’s what’s happening here, and it doesn’t matter if there siblings?, just as long as not from the same birth litter, correct. I don’t have 🐇 yet, I want to learn more before getting them. I watched the rabbit series that’s why we have more ?’s. Thanks for the videos.

At what age do the testicles drop? I had a pet rabbit once and his were obvious. I know if we're raising them for meat it doesnt matter. They probably drop after the butchering age.

How early can you sex with confidence? And more importantly how soon can they actually produce babies? Example..if your earliest you can sex is 5 weeks but they can get pregnant at 4 weeks that's a issue lol. I'm new so I want to avoid babies until I'm ready.

It's funny that I watched this video today. We bought some rabbits before Christmas to raise as meat rabbits. I was supposed to get 1 buck and 5 does. When I sexed them the day we got them one doe looked to be a buck. Well I checked them today and sure enough I have 2 bucks. After watching your video I decided to check one More time. It's a buck. I would keep them both but one of my does is his litter mate. The buyer has already said she will swap him will swap him out for a doe

Unless they are a sex link breed this is very hard to do. We leave it up the hatchery for our meat birds and when we hatch our own layer birds we leave it up the "crow test". If they start to crow....it's a rooster! lol.

So glad I found this video! We just recently acquired 4 rabbits. The person that sold them thought they had 2 bucks and then all of a sudden they had baby bunnies! We got these for our boys as pets but I want to sex them and make sure we don't end up with the same problem! Eventually we will be getting many more rabbits for meat but we just aren't set up for that quite yet. Do you think it would be fine to use these 4 rabbits (assuming we have bucks and does) as breeders for meat rabbits, or is it best to get some breeders from a "real" rabbitry and know what the breeds are? We have no idea what these breeds are. They came from the same mom and dad, same litter. Two are a beautiful all over brown/tan and a little larger, one is all black and smaller, one is white with black spots on it and smaller.

🤣 you know lots of people eat rabbit and have for thousands of years. It's even sold in the butcher. A lot of people also eat lamb, chicken, duck and beef. Food is food.
