Malenia, Blade of Miquella as a Mage with Night Comet (no summon)

@@xxANBUxx What were your talismans and consumables that you used because I see you do almost double damage to her with night comet compared to me ?

@@djordjedangubic7270I had both graven school and mass talismans, Magic Scorpion talisman, and Magic Shrouding Cracked Tear from the wondrous flask. My int is 85(normally 80 but I have +5 from the great rune) and I'm casting with Carian Regal Scepter +10 while Staff of Loss is in my off hand. Finally Rani's Dark moon and Frostbite both lower enemy magic defense. Those should be all the factors that contribute to my big damage iirc.

@@xxANBUxx Thanks for the help ,I am locked out of magic scorpion talisman . I have no problem going to phase 2 but there she completely aggro me at close distance with no chance for me to shot nigh comet . I guess I must deplete her health quickly like you to avoid that . With those advices I can still increase night comet damage by 54 % in phase 2 maybe that will help. I am having playthrough without ash summons and she is only boss left for that.

Lightning Spear is the same way. She doesn't dodge the projectiles for that Incantation.

​@@AlteraLinEnemies only dodge the charged version, iirc. You miss the extra damage on paper, but hitting a weaker cast still does more damage than zero.

Even though I'm holding the Staff of Loss, I'm not actually casting with it, I'm using the Carian Regal for my casting which is at +25. As long as Staff of Loss is in the other hand your casting staff gets the bonus. Also another thing to note is since I have a great rune active my int is actually 85 during the fight which could make a tiny difference, from what I have read you get your biggest casting bonuses from 60-80 int so you really wanna pump it to 80 if you have not and you are a caster. Finally I'm using both the Graven Mass, Magic Scorpion Talisman, and the magic booster from the Wondrous Flask for extra damage.

Also forgot to mention that Ranni's Dark Moon also lowers magic def for a minute, so that could be another reason my damage is higher.

Thanks for explaining these buffs! I used the Wondrous Flask and the Godrick Rune for second phase, but I forgot about the Scorpion talisman (I tend to avoid things that increase damage taken). I did not know the staff equipped was enough for the bonus. Anyway, everything is explained. Believe me, it is TENSE when you need to stay alive for many minutes doing only 650-700 per cast (cranked up to 900ish for the second phase).

Rock sling isn’t the very best option. She doesn’t have weakness for physical damage. Tho, rock sling has a very big range and as Malenia have low poise it can easily break stance on her. I used comet (glintstone) and rennala full moon with Carian regal scepter to defeat her in NG.

Just upgrade your casting staff, Loss can be lvl1.

Carian Regal is a stronger staff than Staff of Loss so I cast with it, but just having Staff of Loss in one of your hands boosts the power Night spells by 25%. So if you could somehow get 2 Staff of Loss without going to NG+ it would be better to dual wield 2 of them and cast with one.

It does if you have the Staff of Loss in one of your hands, the biggest reason to use Night Comet is because the AI will not dodge it.

It's the shield from the flask, it reduces 1 hit by like 95% then breaks

Oops I misread your comment the first time. My shield is breaking in 1 hit, I just have a 2nd shield for 1 minute from the crab meat. Thecrab shield is only 20% physical reduction though

I'm lvl 130 here, the only stats I lvld are the following. Vig 40, Mind 38, End 15, and Int 80. All the other stats are at base lvl for an Astrologer.

38, this was also before they buffed the Mind stat to give you even more FP.

Crucible Knight arms, chest, legs and the commoners helm iirc.
