Mall of the Dead is the Ultimate Snowball Map - Tier List Tuesday

There's a slight chance this map doesn't lead to a snowball, but that requires incredible six player diplomacy and no 1-point bonus blizzards. Unfortunately, that is so rare these days, that Mall of the Dead just becomes one of the most likely snowball maps on the meta settings. Next week, we'll be starting the Pirate Map Pack! For real, I think the black player could have rivaled me if not for yellow going behind them. Orange was clearly a decent player but picked one of his worst capital options, especially given how many territories of his we saw top left. He was in the first position, he really could have plopped himself anywhere else pretty safely.

@@C_money It was a bad cap location (effectively a corner with that blizzard) but he could have taken a bonus and expanded had Blue not capped in his bonus.

A few things this game. #1. Blue saw Orange's cap in the open and picked their cap to be there anyways. #2. Even though the game was mostly over at this point, I think you probably could've benefitted from clearing out the right bonus and the center top bonus the turn you killed black, and also taking yellow's kill there. GG! Once the caps landed, this game was never in question mate!

Thanks! I do think your second point about clearly the bot and yellow is fairly inconsequential at that stage of the game. I saw it as, maybe one of these guys leaves a massive stack in my way where I don't have a card for a turn. Really don't think there was any world where it would have made enough of a difference.

@@C_money My figuring was that if you clear it you're pretty much guaranteed the extra bonuses, and that'll be enough to finish things the following round. Outcome ultimately wouldn't change 997 times out of a thousand with this though, so it's splitting hairs. 1 of those 1000 is yellow being kill-guarded behind Orange's cap, causing them to pick up 3 cards for free and possibly rout you, and 2 times Blue throws all of their troops into you giving an infinitesimally small chance of feeding the game to Orange. Nobody had a chance that game other than you and Black based off of cap choices, and yellow caused black's demise. Still kinda crazy how bad people can be with cap choices for this game.

Yellow couldn't have been kill guarded behind orange's cap because I knew orange attacked that spot at 17:30 when he opted not to hit the blue 6 in front of his cap. He ended up hitting that 6 on the next turn.

@@C_money It's unlikely, but isn't there the possibility Orange simply took the cap card on the left side of their cap(Tooth Hurty) invisible to your vision on that turn? It's hard to tell either way to my eye. Given their skill I would've guessed that they'd taken it much earlier, but I think there's a way to get those dice animations without removing a position there.

I've played on this map once and I'm not fond of it. Too man nooks and crannies where you have to split stacks to take territories which causes you to leave troops where they are useless unless/until you can fortify them out. It makes sense because it's part of the zombie theme but highly annoying to me. GG for you.

I think it's a pretty fun map for kill guards and what not when playing progressive world domination. But with capitals and especially blizzards, it becomes far too easy to snowball, especially if too many people become attracted to one-point holds.

Great easy game! I love this map for the snowball effect like you mentioned. It makes me feel like a boss when I can 😂

I wonder if the rating of this map changes when played with zombies? As a progressive map it may be D sure, but with a zombie infection the choke points and segmented nature may be a fearure not a bug? Would you rate it differently then?

I do think the zombies mode would up the rating. This particular tier list is specifically for the "meta" settings.

Too spawn-dependent for my taste, and incredibly chokey and linear. You showed how snowbally the map is, although your opponents' cap selections were... interesting. With how chokey it is, you can just get a bad spawn and die to an unstoppable snowball. Well played.

Yeah the spawn-dependent thing is very true. Although, I do think it's rare that you get that many players all choosing caps within already claimed bonuses.

Victories more often than not, but not just victories. Go check out the Tier List Tuesday video on Alcatraz (the one before this one) or the video from two weeks ago titled "The Best (or Worst?) Cap Rolls I've Ever Experienced" for some recent games where I did not win. For what it's worth, this season of ranked I've won over 56% of the games I've played, so it isn't crazy difficult for me to get a victory to upload. Not intended as a brag, just what ends up happening.

I rarely play the game myself and every single time i play it's against master+ rank players and I'm the last in order 🥲 I can't even imagine playing this map I'd probably die in first 3 rounds lol

My mindset is if I can do it on the winning turn and can show off all of the territories of the map (which I like to do if I can on the tier list tuesday videos) then I don't see all that much of an issue with it. If I can't because material is locked behind the last cap, of course, no point in trying. In this case, it didn't really add that much extra time.
