Mgarr ix Xini is one of the most sheltered dive sites in Gozo. It's used for teaching, swimming, snorkeling.
Deep CCR diving is certainly not the first thing that comes to most people's minds when you mention this site. That's why I was grateful for Helmuth taking me to a lesser-known and rarely dived part of the site. Reached either by a long swim or a scooter ride, this reef offers stunning topography and some cool swimthroughs.
Why do such a long dive? A personal goal of mine this year is to extend underwater stamina, if that's what you can call it. Getting comfortable again with dive times beyond two hours is part of that. The Kiss Sidewinder (Yvonne) and the ISC Megalodon (Helmuth) worked well for us.
And why go deep? Because in this case, that's where the most interesting part of the reef is. Saying that, there are some really cool creatures in the shallows here, too.
