I am glad she followed her dreams. She did what she wanted to do. She got her dream career. She had an amazing voice, a fabulous band, a beautiful child and had an exciting life. RIP Cass Elliot.
SHE CARRIED THE FUCKING GROUP and she didn't get the respect and recognition she deserved because some people didn't like her appearance. Even some people in these interviews are disrespectful. Fuck that, she's beautiful and she's my inspiration!
I love how history did justice to Cass Elliot, showing her as the individual powerful woman she was. Shame she left so early, she truly deserved to witness this.
The CSN book I read said of Cass that she was a musical matchmaker. She was key in introducing Graham Nash & David Crosby. That alone is pretty clever.
I believe in a God that provides JUSTICE. We all see, now, that Cass Elliot WAS the mama's n the papas....she will get the recognition she DESERVES and I don't think anyone will ever be able to deny her that What a BEAUTIFUL woman
Who knows? Possibly she does know this as she watches over her sister and daughter from beyond the veil. Three of the four are reunited now. In time the fourth will join them. Can you imagine that party! Singing songs even the Angels will love.❤
what a woman! Cass mama you are and always will be one-of-a-kind. I`m just grateful that I found the music on RU-vid, or I may never have had the pleasure listening to this beautiful voice. rip Mama Cass your music will live on and on forever in time.
@Phyllis Bergh Being that I am a musician with perfect pitch I understand what your saying . But this song is so amazing I deal with the little imperfections Cheers
Her dancing was a plus so light on her feet. People accepted Cass, saw her character. They loved her. It was the personality clash with John Phillips that made her say goodbye.Fame changed them & the spark was gone.
The other three were like the other dime-a-dozen folk acts barely making a living, with Cass THEY SOARED. Ditto about her being a wonderful person. I wrote this about another video: Soaring lyrics and harmonies, unparalleled in the history of music, a special moment in time. Michelle was alright but I'm still in Love with Mamma Cass, WHAT A VOICE, a good person and very cute.
All she had to do was open her mouth, and what came out was that beautiful natural voice. She stayed true to her self, no faking it, it was the true her. Owen, her daughter has her mama's voice, she sounds just like Cass. Cass will never be forgotten, she was in an era where music was a passion. I am 73, and my Grand kids grew up with my music, my oldest Grand child is 37, and still listens to it. Her music keeps her alive for all of us.
@@georgebethos7890 They were ALL taking lsd way before Cass took a small vial of it to the Virgin Islands in the spring of 1965. They were also smoking a lot of pot way before Cass became part of the group.
Cass has been gone for 46 years now. She was only 32 years old when she died. Had she lived, she would be 79 tomorrow. September 19th. She and the mama's and the papa's were a very big part of my music world growing up. I will always love them. Thank you for posting this.
I can appreciate the music of The Mama's & Pappa's now more than I could during their hey-day of the 1960's. Although I enjoyed their sounds at that time, the 60's had so many great bands and fantastic music that many bands were overshadowed by some of those other entertainers. All these years later I look back on those days and realize just how truly magical they were.
Mama Cass was the first celebrity passing I cried over. I was just a kid but, I really felt so sad like I knew her personally. I think most people did.
@cindybin2001 Shock horror! So did pretty much everyone in music, entertainment or showbusiness at the time. It doesn't make her a bad person. It probably didn't do her any good, but she never hurt anyone else in the process.
cindybin2001 And priggishness makes me furious. Pardon me if I don’t condemn her character to the fires of hell, just because she took a few wrong turns in her short life. From what I can see she was a beautiful, intelligent and warm person who struggled a lot in life, and was finally starting to find contentment when she died. I don’t see what point there is in criticising her for the mistakes she made when she was clearly not a bad person. But there you go.
She had a killer voice she was an awesome singer the Lord blessed her and she had such wonderful place self-esteem she is very much missed she was a legend
Soaring lyrics and harmonies, unparalleled in the history of music, a special moment in time. Michelle was alright but I'm still in Love with Mamma Cass, WHAT A VOICE, a good person and very cute.
@@gardengirl7446 Denny sang a wonderful lead in "Chimney Sweep," and Michelle went on to do some starry costar acting. John wrote most of the group's songs, and created and masterminded this ensemble, which like a choice chamber quartet, was greater than the sum of any of its essential parts.
The 60's were such turbulent years, but the best music came out of it. I love folk music and especially the Mamas & Papas. Cass had a incredible voice. Gone too soon.
In the 70s, the voice was Karen. In the 60s. It was Cass. The "instant radio" voice. Three notes and you knew who it was. One of the greatest singers in history
"I saw her Again", ...I will never forget how huge that song was back then. There was nothing like it..we were so crazy about it; playing it hundreds of times over. Wow. What a sound.
BGD-Canman : John wrote (among many others) "California Dreamin'," Michelle wrote a verse to it, and Denny sang the lead. That wasn't going to fail, whether Cass was there or not. Cass was very talented, but so were the other three. Don't insult them.
@@tamething1 Hey thats not an insult, Cass has a pitch and tone to her voice, they had to have, to make them what they all were together. Don't deminish Cass in any way! They were brilliant together! Cass had personality plus, and she had all the moves, too!!!
"Monday, Monday" is a 1966 song written by John Phillips and recorded by the Mamas & the Papas, using background instruments played by members of the group.I was 14 when this song was released, 68 today.
She was too beautiful, talented, and charismatic to stay in that group. Loved those go-go boots, and her slick footwork! Such a loss at such a young age!
Even today I still love to hear Cass E. sing those 60's songs ..The California Dreaming is the most uplifting song when I have a bad day...Memories are so great to have
Such an incredably beautiful person. She was one of a kind.I remember turning 14 on July 29th and hearing on the news we lost her.I was very sad then became thankful that I lived during her tenure.
I wonder if Mama Cass would have teamed up with Freddie Mercury and Queen what kind of music that would have possibly been like. Freddie and Cass singing together I would have loved to see that.
Mamma Cass sang it as it is. She was an intellectual. My boyfriend and I loved her, then. She articulated hope to us in our hopeless teenage lives. It's getting better. We were together until death us parted 45 years later. May I mention, my boyfriend became a much loved rock musician...who had the privilege to know the now incredible Barry McGuire. Even now, I see Mamma Cass as the loveable, big sister I never had.
Barry McGuire was awesome and so very underrated. Poor guy worked for 6 hrs to get his voice rough enough to record "Eve of Distruction" . Must have nearly done him in. . Sorry for the loss of your beloved. 45 yrs is such a special long time I recently lost my partner of 16yrs to congestive heart failure... Sadly probably the same thing that killed Cass.
Thank you for sharing that! A beautiful, intelligent, compassionate & immensely talented individual. An intellectual indeed! I recently watched her giving what was a quite rare interview with a famous British chat show host of the 70’s & 80’s(Russell Harty)She was totally captivating, witty, engaging & her integrity shone through. So impressed hence my waxing lyrical! Thank you for your post -it was your emphasis on her intellectuality that I most appreciated hearing.X
I grew up listening to their music. We’d sing along and I’ll never forget all the times I had tears in my eyes. Their music touched me. Even as I listen now at 72 years old I got tears in my eyes. RIP graceful, soulful, lovable, honorable, talented Mama Cass.
Cass, Ellen as she was then, went to high school together in VA, and she had a very special bond with my father. We rejoiced in her success, and were sadden by her death
I loved, and still love her voice..she was iconic !!! What a beautiful lady, inside and out. She could harmonize with the best of them !!! Such a heavenly voice...so sad that she was taken from us too soon...
Denny and Mama Cass were fantastic harmonizing together ❤ ! A beautiful soul ! Talent personified ! You made your own kind of music 🎶 , and made so many people happy 😊 ! Thank you Mama Cass ! RIP 🙏 ! Sweet dreams !
But in the end it was. Her heart couldn’t keep going and she left a little girl that she loved. Even on these singing shows they don’t get women with voices like that. She had star power.
She actually didn't look as heavy around 24 minutes in the scenes wearing slacks. I think the tent shaped dresses did her no favors, maybe there were not the style options as much for larger women.. . ). Maybe she could have rocked something a little more tapered w the signature go go boots.
@@finallythere100. She dieted. Yo-yo dieting. Up and down. So at times yeah, she looked a little thinner. But it wasn’t permanent. She was about 240 when she died. She could lose weight but would gain it back, which is also very hard on your health. Aside from the obesity itself.
Cass was much more than the weight. These so called friends and colleagues that keep banging on about the weight sound so fickle. Have they forgotten, it's what's inside that counts. Cass's fans saw the beautiful, talented woman that Cass was. Cass Elliot will be remembered.
Michelle Phillips was a good friend and loved her. They made amens later. Michelle never flaunted her size and John told them what to wear. She was definitely the heavy lifter.
@@SparkyOne549 Well it certainly did not look attractive. It never does. She was a very attractive, young woman. The weight ruined it, because obesity is not only dangerous, it's gross. And unless people are going to tell us all that anorexia looks beautiful, they don't have a leg to stand on. I certainly don't see the Woke trying to force women to fancy grossly fat men!
@@kelrogers8480 Do you know that there are some that can’t help it? I’m sure it wasn’t her fault. Genetics or a chemical imbalance can cause it, steroids for a health condition can also cause it. I personally don’t care who sings what, i love music period. I just love the songs, not the artists.
Too bad most of the world is 100% unaware of what it is that is actually infested inside all TV, on the movie screen and in radio, also infested in 100% ALL media outlets of every single type as they are all 100% owned and operated by the same exact GANG worldwide! Just as all so called bands and singers are 100% paid puppet deceivers that never write their own music "never have and never will!" Never make it to the top. They are all intentionally made famous by the same worldwide "Gang" 100% all of them without exception are inverted transexuals including that MAN Cass Elliott that goes by the fake name Bette Midler today. Bette Midler/Cass Elliot is still a 100% MAN just like the rest of them are all inverted from birth!
No singing show, the Voice, American Idol gets anyone that can sing like Cass did. Powerful and beautiful harmony. They were all in sync with California Dreamin.
WOW! What a great biography! When I was little....around 5 or 6, I took apart every song she sang from the Mama's and the Papas, and thought I was the bomb when belting out her parts. lol She taught me a lot about harmonizing and projecting..... I think because her voice was so distinct no matter who she was singing with, she made a great teacher. Couldn't help but smile singing ANY of her songs. How she could cut through without overpowering or drowning out other singers proves what a true gift she was given. She was her own light. You just can't teach the things she could do naturally. Because of her, I had some amazing experiences singing in my youth. Wish she was still around so I could give her a great big hug and thank her. In two days, she would have been 80, still belting it out with ease, I'm sure. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She was amazing and paved the way for the ones that came after her that didn’t fit the usual thin, pretty model but were original and super talented. Thanks Cass!!!
Every time I heard Cass sing I just melt. She has such a phenomenal voice and astonishing charisma. Her sister Leah also has an amazing voice. You can really hear a similarity between them. Quite a few of Leah's songs are on RU-vid.
The group was abit before my time but I have listened to their music and it's great. Mama Cass made the group. She had an awesome voice and talent. It's such a pity that her weight was focused on. Gone to soon....
Mama Cass had the pipes , moves, and vibes to be the amazingly talented person she will always be considered. Thank you for sharing your one of a kind gifts sweet Mama Cass❤
Cass Elliot was one of the highlights of my musical life and when she passed away it was so sad to know we would not be hearing her singing melodies again🙏🌻👍🏻❤️👀😎
Even at a young age myself, I adored Cass for who she was, I knew and felt her charm, joy she brought to the world, but most of all her voice. fell in love with her then, and still love her now. She isn't gone, she's still alive and well in my mind and heart.
I had a neighbor in high school who was a nurse. She was easily over 300 pounds, and she could dance in such a phenomenal, rhythmic way that I have never forgotten. Whatever "it" is, she had it. Her son was a drummer for Syracuse University, and they put out a CD of just his drumming. I will never forget the way she could move when she played that CD. Cass reminds me of her. What a beautiful woman!
Cass had blue-eyed soul. She was close with and respected by so many folk pop rockers across the country including the young Eagles. And Michelle Phillips was not hard to look at - a maneater.
Soaring lyrics and harmonies, unparalleled in the history of music, a special moment in time. Michelle was alright but I'm still in Love with Mamma Cass, WHAT A VOICE, a good person and very cute.
You can clearly see in some of the MATP films in this documentary, Cass is very much the lead. Her dancing, foot tapping, swinging the mic, she is the extrovert of the group but above all, that voice was something special. Its desperately sad she died so young yet what a way to go after her successful palladium shows. Her legacy is for all of us to enjoy. Those beautiful songs delivered with a beautiful voice.
You are right. That fight for recognition of. Her talent instead or her size must have taken a horrific toll on her life. I always loved her for her terrific persona.
