They’re the only girl group in Korea to do that ✨ Also, Hwasa auditioned for JYP, but an agent told her “You have a great voice but you’re fat and ugly” Wheein also auditioned for JYP because Hwasa and her auditioned together. Solar auditioned for 40+ companies (she never auditioned for SM ent because she thought her visuals doesn’t meet the requirement, as she said “why would I hurt myself?”) but was rejected because of her age (she was 21) Also, JYP collaborated with MAMAMOO in their MAMA2019 performance. For JYP to collaborate with a group from a small company, he probably saw the charms, talent, and uniqueness that MAMAMOO has.

To add another nerdy reference to the mix, I saw a vocal coach on RU-vid make an awesome one by describing Mamamoo's voices as the four elements in Avatar. She said that Hwasa's smoky and husky vocals are fire, Wheein's light and beautiful vocals are air, Solar's deep and powerful vocals are earth, and Moonbyul is water for the way she balances the other members out and fits so perfectly with them. Mamamoo really are a fantastic mix of everything 😄 I'm glad you reacted to this, it's an incredible performance that I genuinely never get tired of watching. No long ago Solar made an appearance in a TV show and told that before debut their CEO made them perform in front of other CEOS, and all of them agreed that they will gonna flop, because they were small and didn't had "Idol" looks. Actually Solar didn't even go to SM when she was looking for a casting because she believed that they'll rejected her cuz her visuals. Imagine that, rejecting Solar for her visuals. She's gorgeous.

Lol, they really are like the Power Rangers. When you unite them, they are just an unstoppable force. They even have a 4 colors concept and everything. You should really react to Mamamoo Acapella Queens. It’s something else. I really hope your still planning on reacting to Queendom soon, even though it might spoil you a little when it comes to two of their songs you haven’t heard yet.

Their 4 part harmony is indeed so effortless even when they're just foolinh around. IDK probably it's because of their close bond or RBW simply trained them to death before debuting. Oh and *in my opinion* Whee In has the best vocal among the four. You just haven't seen it ❤️

You’ll see wheein is the best vocalist in mamamoo (therefore making her one of the best in kpop in general) the more you watch. She doesn’t flash and show off as much as solar, and doesn’t have as unique a tone as Hwasa, but wheeins technique, control, range and consistency make her the best. Her tone is also beautiful and angelic, but she can also belt like solar.. they just utilize solar more because she is far and away more powerful. Also, she’s the shyest and most reserved so she suffers from her lack of exposure. Moomoos know about her immense talents, but because hwasa, solar, moonbyul tend to put themselves out there more, it’s their skills that most of the general public focus on first.

Solar auditioned over 40 companies including JYP, was rejected for being in their 20s, i guess Hwasa or Wheein auditioned in JYP too, but i'm not sure

Moonstar is really slaying it at Immortal Songs. It's early in their career (the first appearances were 2015, not a year after their debut), so she is only rapping, but all the songs a pop songs from the 80 and older (Delilah), so there are no rap parts in them. She wrote all the raps herself and they fit the songs like a glove.

Moonbyul tends to be the backup vocals for her own raps and Wheein. Moonbyul and Wheein have very complimentary voices, each with a different kind of brightness that is the makes up the "updraft line" of Mamamoo. 😂 Immortal Songs is one of my favorite live shows for Moonbyul because she wrote a rap for each song and so her portions were all unique to the performance. 🥰 Honestly, I would love to hear what rapper Hwasa sounds like now. In 2014 she sounded like a tiny mouse version of a cross between Rihanna and Nikki Minaj. I mean, I still listen to I Do Me daily but it always makes me giggle because of the delivery. We kind of got that in Hip but it wasn't enough.

I fell in love with Wheein in Immortal Songs because she gets to showcase her powerful vocals here. In most of Mamamoo songs, she often steps back and supports the other 3 ladies. A lot of new fans don't know that she can actually hit the same range as Solar and go as low as Moonbyul. If you observe them in Killing voice, she's in charge of doing a lot of harmonies while Hwasa does a lot of adlibs. This is the killing point of Mamamoo. Doing harmonies takes a lot of listening, skill, and humility.

wheein has a very versatile voice! the woman can go from a low octave to a whistle note , she prefers the soft r&b sound though , she’s also the most sought out person for ballads ands ost’s , just a little sad that people always push her to the side cause she’s not shown belting like the others often , sad to say many people think that good singing means belting and hitting super high notes, wheein is also does most of the little harmonies so basically she’s the backbone of mamamoo

oh yeah, and on the auditions thing... yes, every single member of mamamoo was turned down by multiple agencies and i believe every one had tried at least one of the big three (solar did two, i think it was sm that she said she never auditioned for because she didn't think she was pretty enough for their standards). they invariably heard they were great singers but just 'not a good match for our style' or whatever way they were 'politely' turned down, though there were some that bluntly told them things like the 'you're fat and not very pretty' hwasa mentioned getting or the 'aren't you too old to be a kpop trainee' solar got. i mean, kpop fans got their ideas for the ridiculous kpop beauty standards from somewhere... solar said she'd auditioned 40+ times and was about to give up before rbw said yes. wheein and hwasa said they were about ready to pack it in and go back home to jeonju together before rbw signed them. rbw (or really, at the time, wa entertainment) really was the last hope for all four of these girls that other agencies just considered 'not good enough' because they didn't match visual criteria despite how good they were vocally, musically, and performance-wise moonbyul and wheein actually did almost debut together. they were in a short-lived group that i don't believe really even lasted a week. byul was going to be main vocalist and leader (and eldest) with wheein the maknae. when they met up again as rbw trainees, they were happy to see each other and because wheein already knew hwasa (of course), solar was a bit left out at first. as far as these four go, at least. there was a fifth trainee that almost debuted with them as the group's leader but who quit shortly before debut. she was pretty good friends with all the girls, particularly solar and hwasa (and she and hwasa still hang out together. and have a matching tattoo together)

Solar auditioned 50 times including JYP and YG Moonbyul and Wheein were in a group before but it disbanded after 1 week Hwasa auditioned numerous times as well They were like the pioneers in RBW, which was a small and new company back then. Kim Do Hoon, their CEO kinda put them together and composes some of their songs. He often asks for their opinions and inputs on the songs and gives them opportunities to be involved in making their music and wardrobe All of them are vocalists, try and watch Um Oh Ah Yeh music video and you'll know that they don't have main and lead positions. Wheein is sometimes overlooked but her voice is my first love in this group. She has the most versatile technique and she supoorts the songs while Solar and Hwasa belts or doing their runs. But sometimes, Solar and Hwasa supports her when she does her whistle notes

Wheein is objectively the best technical vocalist in Mamamoo. I’d highly recommend reacting to her debut solo live performance of Anymore on Sketchbook. Her high notes and emotion in that stage will blow your mind as she sounds way better live than the studio version.

I'm glad you appreciate all their vocal capabilities. It makes me sad when people only recognize either only Solar, Wheein, or Hwasa rather than the whole package. And I was with Mamamoo since You're the Best era but it makes me feel proud when I hear Moonbyul sing. I started with Moonbyul as my bias, but I cannot get enough from all of them. Sometimes Solar is my bias, then Wheein, and then other songs it's Hwasa. I love these girls and their strong bond. They all give something unique to the group. Wheein is an ace of kpop, but don’t just take our word for it. It always take a minute for new moos to see it but when you do, it’s honestly so hard to ignore her, even if she’s not your bias lol This was in 2016 during their first concert! And yes, ALL of them actually has auditioned for many other companies before being turned down. Literally Solar’s last resort after 50+ auditions was going to be RBW before she was going to give up auditioning because her parents wanted her to do something more practical. Funny thing, JYP himself asked to collaborate with them last year for their 2019 MAMA stage! He also openly regrets his company passing up on the members who auditioned there but then again we wouldn’t have Mamamoo if one or two of them made it into JYP

Wheein actually is the best vocalist in Mamamoo, she's known for her sweet/breathy vocals but her lower register is 💯 she's got the healthiest technique and the most stable in the group. Wheein is the backbone of the group for a reason, people may think holding a melody while the other members are belting their ass off is easy but it really is not. She may not always have the moment to do flashy adlibs but when she does, it's insane 🔥💯

This is from their 2017 Concert Moosical, and they wear heels entire concert. Typical concert of Mamamoo is 4 hours with LIVE band. They said, Mamamoo concert is worth your money. Ahaha yes, JYP said they are 4 soloist in a group, rare gem in the industry. On your own free time, watch their concerts. goodness, I don't know where they get their energy from. Well, other companies wouldn't have the audacity to regret. Solar was turned down by probably all of them except SM, just because she didn't even bother going to SM's audition knowing she wouldn't make it anyway. I don't remember Hwasa training at any company prior to RBW. Moonbyul was a vocal in her trainee day. Wheein probably still make it but I think having her best friend really help her mentally. Even when RBW already put MMM together, since their CEO is a well-know producer with lot of connections, he sent MMM's clips to his acquaintances and they all said the girls not gonna make it. So, let's be real, others can't wish they have MMM because none of them would debut MMM if given the chance.

180 comments so far so I'm sure people have mentioned that MMM were just a bunch of dwarfish, unpretty, non-idol material rejects who nobody in their right mind would sign until Kim Dohoon had the novel idea to create a group based on talent. When he showcased the girls for other industry pros before MMM's debut they all said he was nuts and predicted Mamamoo would be ruined. This medley was filmed at one of Mamamoo's Moosical Curtain Call concerts in 2017 and includes some of the songs they had performed on Immortal Songs up til then. If you want to mix in live performances without MV spoilers you could watch any or all of their 14 appearances on Immortal Songs. My favs are Delilah and Backwoods but they're all spectacular vocal showcases. Moosical Curtain Call was only their 2nd series of concerts, the first being the Moosical concerts in 2016. I find it shocking that a group could command the stage and have the audience wrapped around their fingers the way Mamamoo did in only their 2nd set of concerts. They seem like seasoned vets who have performed on countless stages in front of thousands of people for many years. Stamina has never been an issue with Mamamoo. Their 4 Seasons F/W concerts last year ran 4+ hours and the final concert in Hong Kong was 5 hours long according to HK moomoos. IMO another things distinguish Mamamoo from most of groups are: 1. When they harmonize with each other, since they've sing for so long...they know how to *respect* whoever sing the main melody. As you know Solar has crazy power to the point she makes the mic clipping most of the times (ex: "Sexy Back" on JYP Party), but she control her volume so well when she's not the main melody. Wheein could easily steal everyone's attention by doing her clean running notes or high headvoice every 3 seconds 😂, same for Hwasa. But they don't. 2. Despite being a vocal group, Moonbyul's part were never overshadowed by the other's part... In fact the rap part is the most anticipated. Byul also has a great rap tone and refreshing flow, it gives their song extra ummpph everytime.

Mamamoo's concert was over 4 hours , any singer or group can offer that kind of concert must have amazing live singing ability . And of course , MMM is one of the best for sure . Love their live performance , damn good !

back two hours later because realized i forgot something in my previous long-winded messages... moonbyul is frequently used as a narrator in their earlier songs, especially the immortal songs covers (where she wrote rap verses for songs that weren't even remotely designed to have them). another female rapper pointed that out when having to pick one of their songs to cover. byul helps control the flow of the song, the emotion. she'll hype things up if the song needs that or slow things down if that's what's needed. and she always changes her flow and style to suit the song instead of just trying to wedge something in as for host... she used to be a very frequent guest on the radio show 'starry night' when it was hosted by sandeul of b1a4 before he had to do his military service. he's one of moonbyul's best friends and had her on practically every episode of his show. he also had her guest dj for him once when he was out and she even took over as temporary dj partway through another episode when he was late coming back from something lately, she's been the dj for tuesday night's 'aven girls' radio show and she calls her episodes 'hamven girls' since one of her favorite nicknames is 'hamster' (which she calls ham or hamham) sandeul and moonbyul went on a show called 'in sync' ('kiss' or 'kissing' in korea) where singers from various backgrounds got together over the course of a weekend at a time and had to find duet partners, usually mixed gender but they did have one song between two men because they'd purposefully had more male singers invited than female. moonbyul was exceptionally worried since she's always just been 'the rapper' for a group all about vocal prowess and didn't expect any of the guys to pick her. because of that she just stuck close to sandeul early on and gave him a really tough decision... he wound up having to pick between a duet with her and one with punch, a solo artist known as an ost queen. punch was sandeul's number one person he wanted to duet with out of everyone on the show. and he wound up picking byul over her because he was more worried for her well-being than his own partner desires the two sang a beautiful song together and it actually made all the other male artists on the show clamor to partner with her afterwards. she suddenly became the most sought-after partner on the show thanks both to sandeul's selflessness and moonbyul's own voice and lower register. it did wonders for her confidence and gave us some absolutely gorgeous songs with byul and the lead singer of jannabi and hongki of ft island. i do wish we'd been able to see a moonbyul/dindin performance too but alas. also, poor sandeul never got to sing with punch on the show though the two became pretty good friends, as did punch and moonbyul. in fact, punch had byul feature on a remake of one of her osts with her and byul had punch feature on one of her songs from the 'dark side of the moon' album

Moonbyul has her own radio show every Tuesday on and it's really amazing, you're right she does have that MC aura in a lot of their stages.

mamamoo + live band is the best combo ever. they do that for all their immortal songs performances, all their concerts and basically any other time they're able to finagle a live band into their performances (sometimes it's their labelmates, onewe, that are the band. magic happens then) this medley was for one of their concerts, yeah. i believe 2017, 'moosical: curtain call', based on solar's pink hair. (also, how cute is it that they called their first two concerts 'moosical' and 'moosical curtain call'?). i want to say they performed the medly about halfway through the concert but haven't seen it all at once so am not really sure. i do know that even though this was really just their second solo concert series they were already going way overboard with it. their first concerts constantly went over the two-hour mark you tend to expect for concerts. with the curtain call ones they were breaking the three-hour mark and their more recent concerts, the four seasons spring/summer and fall/winter concerts all went over four hours long, with the final f/w one breaking five hours. just absolute insanity i mean, they do break things up with solo stages for every member (7-10 minutes the first few concerts, 20 minutes for the f/w ones), comedy skits (their two "taller than you" skits in s/s and f/w concerts are beyond hilarious) and vcrs (basically pre-recorded videos played so the girls, the dancers, and the band can catch their breath for a few minutes, change outfits and the stage can be set up for the next performances) but that's still a huge amount of time to perform. these women have legendary stamina mamamoo used to attend up to 4 college festivals a day (even red velvet got surprised when they heard that), performing live every time, each one a 20 minute stage with all the travel time between. that's one of the things that helped build their stamina as well as their reputation. they were the second most invited act to college festivals because of their changing adlibs to suit the venue, festival, city or audience and the way they always had fun together onstage no matter what. only psy was more requested (also, they were guest singers at one of psy's concerts)

Soo happy you finally watched this! Their live stages are the best! As you will hear many MooMoo say, they are better live, then even on their albums. Oh when you watch their MVs ... make sure to watch their minor MVs too! and their CFs and OSTs too! those aren't to be missed! They are as good as their main music! Also, when you watch things like Immortal Songs (the tv show), and Queendom (the Mamamoo performances) and want to do reactions... if you either (or you can do both) reverse the image, or just pause (like you already do) you don't have to worry about it being blocked. There are a lot of channels that do that, and the videos are fine, and stay up with no issues, instead of putting them where ppl have to pay to see them. Not only back up dancers, they had a live band for the whole concert. Oh, yes, their energy is amazing. Others have mentioned that Solar did 40 auditions before being picked by RBW, Moonbyul was cut for being overweight by another group, and Hwasa was rejected for being darker skinned, heavier, and less attractive than the typical idol, so yeah, they suffered a lot. No one talks about it, but it's obvious that Solar, Moonbyul, and Wheein had some work done prior to debut, but Hwasa seems to have rejected any plastic surgery whatsoever.

Please react to Mamamoo I think about a lot by Holy Hwasa. Actually solar said in one of their interview that before their debute, their CEO in RBW recommended them to other companies for more support I guess but all of them or staff always says that "why them? They will be ruin" cause they are not typically an idol beauty at that time that's why they are really good at stage performances.

You've gotta pay more attention to Wheein. These girls are the best vocalists in the industry but Wheein is flawless. And so versatile. I don't know if it's her stability that makes her do the backbone parts of the songs a lot but she routinely has stand out moments in songs. Watch for them. She is a breathtaking vocalist. I'm not even a Moomoo and I'm lowkey obsessed with her.

You should go check the dingo medley once you've listened to most of their title tracks. It's a good way to hear how much they've improved over the years. Great reaction as usual, btw!

It will blow your mind. I so agree with you about Hwasa’s voice, that grit is everything! She’s also just so adaptable she can go from fluid back-up vocals to soaring high notes and back to almost whispering with dreamy, jazzy vocals and then the aggressive growling. She’s just everything to me, and all of the girls are just absolutely amazing.

I think they’ve been on Immortal Songs 13 (?) times and won 3 times. Plenty of great performances there if you want to watch a full song, plus a MMMTV ep that showed their whole prep for one performance.
