MAMAMOO - "My Star" + "4x4ever" | REACTION 

Thank you for reacting to my request! I do share the same sentiment as you for some parts of My Star and 4x4ever. The main thing that attracted me to these two songs are Moonbyul’s rap verses and her lower tone. As everyone seems to be aware of live performance of Mamamoo generally tend to add a new dimension to their songs. I also do appreciate your honest reactions in each of your video :)

My star in Mamamoo FW concert exists and it is better than the studio ver.

Warning for the mamamoo b tracks. Don’t expect something you expect. Mamamoo tries to do everything. They don’t like to play save. They like to experiment a lot with their music. My star is absolutely in my top 10 mamamoo songs and the live stages are really powerful

The "Cosmic" in Mamamoo songs stands for Cosmic Sound/Cosmic Girl, who are in-house producers at RBW. They responsible for bangers such as Gleam, Wanna Be Myself, Universe, and Why(Hwasa solo song). My Star was my immediate favorite song from White Wind, even moreso than gogobebe. It's probably because I started with Mamamoo during the 4 Seasons era and until I listened to their discography in 2020 it was the norm for me. 4x4ever is representative of the songs on Reality In Black with the exceptions of I'm Your Fan and High Tension. Reality In Black is very much a "standard" K-Pop album but it was made by Mamamoo so the vocals are great and that makes the songs more memorable. I'm a fan of all Mamamoo eras and enjoy each song as a sort of time capsule. It's always cool to hear an older song that I didn't know existed or find a CF, collab, etc that slipped under the radar somehow(this is a specific jab at Mamamoo's collab with Rain, Shinnanda, during the summer of 2020).

I don't think you can expect a certain sound with Mamamoo. Their discography is so diverse you get whiplash listening to the same album. My Star is actually very popular within the fandom. It's from the white wind album along side gogobebe and waggy. It's also more amazing live. I just recalled a confession Wheein and Hwasa said about 4x4ever where they pretended to be sick so they won't get the high parts of the song so all those were given to Solar instead. It was very funny how they confessed and apologized to her during the fan showcase while Solar was like "ah so that's why" and just laughed it off with them.

Title track is where they sell...but b-tracks is where they go wild...they're far from shy to do musical experimentals...it's a good call to do study on Mamamoo's b-tracks...for me personally, Mamamoo b-tracks are treasures

At 2:33 when you say “Ooough, Wheein bringing the vocal power!” that’s actually Hwasa:) Next time that segment comes around it is Wheein though.

My Star definitely grows on you once you watch the live performance (the choreo is SICK), much like No More Drama.

Speaking of -spicy- b sides- i’m waiting for *High tension* and *Words don’t come easy*

Mamamoo's b-sides all sound different from each other so it's always better to keep an open mind when you listen to them. But one thing's for sure, their vocals never disappoint. What I love about My Star are the adlibs. You should definitely check out the live performance of it on their F/W concert, it hits different with a live band. The choreo is amazing and really shows off their strong vocals while dancing. As for 4x4ever, really love Byul's raps here. Also, funny story about this that Wheein shared during their RiB showcase, Solar had to do all the high "We are young" parts because while recording, Wheein and Hwasa only did the low parts because they said they couldn't do the high parts, pretending their throats were sore. The PD then just said that they'll have Solar do it all. Solar was surprised to hear the story as well and just said "Oh, that's why they kept asking me to do that note." 😂

Unfortunately, each of these songs only has one live performance, which is pretty criminal, really esp for 4x4ever. "My star" was performed at their four seasons f/w concerts and they really outdid themselves with the choreo. It's still crazy how much wheein moved whilw she sang in it, and you called it on the body rolls "4×4ever" was only performed partially at one award show and, unfortunately it was the second time ever mamamoo lipsynched (both times at the request of the show. Both times kbs shows). It had a great opening by byul about cyberbullying, then 4×4ever followed by hip Amd as others have mentioned, mamamoo always does different things, either between albums or within them, so you'll always get something different. You'll also start kind of getting a feel for each producer they work with, too. Cosmic sound and cosmic girl are a good example of this. You caught their audio tag at the start of "my star". You'll hear it with a fair few of their b-sides, as well as those for oneus and several non-rbw artists. They also have done most of mamamoo's cf songs. Cosmic sound is a producer, cosmic girl is a singer/songwriter who used to be the main vocalist of the girl group rania (she's also been on solar's channel a few times amd did a song, "lie ya" with her). The two often have a more electronica feel than most other rbw producers and, of course, don't always stick with that. But many fans actually take comfort in hearing that tag because they've got such faith in that duo

Tbh as a MooMoo I actually almost always prefer Mamamoo's B-Sides to their title tracks! Like I'm really really in love with their discography.

When you mentioned Moonbyul going hard in 4x4ever-she played with the lyrics to basically say, “I don’t need your bullshit review.” (“A new discovery” is close in pronunciation to a curse.) The song has a strong anti-hater message. Much like you mentioned in your other video, Moonbyul was saying to antis, “If it doesn’t suit your taste, just pass by. I don’t need your bullshit review.” 4x4ever has quite a few anti-hater parts lol.

My star is the song that i think MAMAMOO could have promoted as a main single and would be a hit!

I do love both of these songs, but they are two songs that I listen to mainly when I'm in a certain mood for them. And like others have said, the My Star concert version is a must-watch, the song really comes alive on stage!

You really need to do the live version of My Star from their 4 seasons' concert. Live band, choreography and the vocals are even better. December 22 is Moonbyul's birthday. These two are some of my very favorites.

For MMMTV I recommend starting from the beginning! And reacting to multiple at once because some are like 5min, some are 10min and some are 18min. They really vary but the best way is through chronological seasons and since you've seen their mvs - you can finally experience what each comeback era was truly like! They all vary in content be it behind the scenes mv, photoshoots, just chilling - its all hilarious and that's the place you truly get to know Mamamoo.

the thing abt mamamoo bsides is that it feels like a roller coaster ride. dance now, cry next, then cry dance later. BUT, the vocals that are packed in all the songs and are such a treat whenever you hear it live. there are songs that when sang live are meh but mamamoo and live??? bruh what a concert

Mamamoo's Discography is such a beautiful and awesome journey, I personally like every Bside, all of their songs are so different but you can still feel the "Mamamoo sound". Sometimes there are songs that are better live, or sometimes you just have to listen to them a few times before fall in love with them. I am loving your Mamamoo reactions!

My Star performance is really great. In my opinion, Mamamoo B sides can best experience when you listen as per album. They will throw any genre in 1 album, but all the songs still connect with each other.

Yes, u definitely should have been warned. Their bsides are always extremely different album to album. These two songs are some of my faves so I do hope they grow on you some more. I prefer My Star (the live performance does exist btw) bc 4x4ever feels a tad bit repetitive to me.

once you look into mamamoo's discography, i can't really say there's a "mamamoo sound they usually do". the range they offer in their albums is just incredible! 4x4ever and my star (along with bad bye) are some international fan favourites, and i listen to them a LOT, so it was surprising that someone might not expect that kind of sound, but of course if you haven't really gone into the b sides yet then how could you know! the my star live performance is amazing, definitely worth checking out!

Aaaaaah Moonbyul in 4x4ever gets me everytime Reality in black is something that just needs to be listened to in it’s entirety it’s a production, lyric and vocal masterpiece. You can usually get away with RBW Album listens on here btw, they’re not known for copyright strikes. Mamamoo is just a musical mystery ride, so their sound changes ALLOT
