maria is hwasas baptismal name so the song is a message to herself. the song is hwasa telling herself she’s beautiful, that she shouldn’t let the haters get to her. it was especially meaningful when all the members sang this song during their world tour bcs it was now instead of hwasa telling herself she’s beautiful, the entirety of mamamoo

You’ll notice a certain theme of Hwasa songs/mv’s. She likes to take bad/sad experiences and turn them into her strengths and positivity. That means there’s usually some sad context to the songs: TWIT : most people thought this was her singing about a guy being dumb and letting her go, but she explained that she’s actually singing about herself. She let someone who genuinely loved her go and she feels like a twit (idiot) for it. Maria : This is Hwasa’s Christian name. She had some nasty criticism and comments thrown at her for a while leading to her having a moment of weakness and had thoughts of suicide. Hence the scene in the MV. She of course couldn’t let that stand and put it to song using it to tell herself it’s okay❤. LMM: pretty straightforward the arrows are a symbolism for mean comments and critiques, none of them hurt her EXCEPT the one she fired at herself. Saying only what she says about herself can hurt her. I Love My Body: Recently there was controversy surrounding her about her provocative performances, Korean netizens even had her picked up and detained by police when she got to Korea. She was on tour at the time. She broke down on tour in America at a hotel parking lot. You can see references to all of this in her MV. The parking lot scenes, the cop car at the end, and the American backgrounds. She got the song from PSY and it cheered her up. Fits her perfectly. I’m a B : just a song about being a rebel lol. The Korean symbol is for “light” which is pronounced “ichi” in Korean so B-ichi sounds like bitch meaning I’m THAT Bitch 😎😎. The context really shows why she is our one and only Queen Hwasa. She gets way too much hate for how beautiful of a person she is ❤.

Maria and LMM (losing my mind) are masterpieces about the hate that Hwasa has received. The scene in LMM where the arrows are flying all over but missing her. The only one that hits her in the back is the one that she herself shoots. The message there is that don't not bother about others trying to hurt you. The only one that can hurt you is yourself. There's one masterpiece missing here, Be Calm, that's my personal favourite. Hwasa is an elegant, talented, mesmerising and a beautiful singer performer. Ahn Hye-Jin is a gentle soul, soft spoken, shy, kind hearted, a bit of a dork, simple human being. Those idiots who hate her tried their best to make her life a living hell but I tell you this, the citizens of the Moomoo nation are very proud and protective of their Queens.

The dress in the start of I'm a B is the same as the one from the end of Maria. Hwasa really has symbolism on lockdown in her mv's

Hwasa is truly an ACE. She not only writes and composes her music but she is so deeply involved in every aspect of her solos, she specifically wrote to storyboard for maria mv. She is amazing. She is very known for her word play btw. Her stage presence is unrivaled. She has been recognized both in the music and entertainment industry and has won many important solo awards. In total she is a star.

i love my body was a song that psy gave hwasa when she was going thru a hard time. she was sued by a parents association for being proactive and found out right before opening night of the us leg of their world tour. she broke down after the show and ran to a parking lot and cried. she said the song that psy sent to cheer her up was the the first thing that made her smile in while which is why the song holds so much meaning to her

oh yes, they are all aces, it's absolutely insane that the talent in this group ended up all together. and i think it's also insane that so many companies rejected them for such superficial reasons, only for them to come together and make a genuine super group. 4x4ever for real. hellboy sua covering maria being your intro to that song is really funny to me, honestly. lmm (stands for lost my mind) might be my favorite song from her. the music video is a literal masterpiece, too. the only arrow that hit her wasnn't the ones fired by the other anonymous strangers, it was the one shot by herself. the mv combined with those vocals she has is just wow.

Maria and LMM is for those who criticize her and she don’t give a damn fuck. Maria MV inside is a pen, mean the tabloid use pen to write about her and criticize her. Hwasa is more famous the others rest member internationally, that’s why she is as called queen hwasa. After heard all their solo, you can know how they are successful even become soloist. For LMM you will need to check the dingo version, another level. Through the MV you can see, they support each others. Don’t doubt their talent, they all can composer, songwriter, do behind production and dance choreograph. They did cover each other solo song during their MyCon concert. Solar cover wheein and vice versa and byul cover hwasa vice versa. Mamamoo forever, the only girl group that I stand ❤.

Hwasa's discography is really amazing, my fav title track is I'm a B, Maria too actually but right now I'm listening to I'm a B more, idk why She said once that she always likes to have a history in her MVs, they always have some deep meaning behind and I love her for that

yes that was Wheein. Twit is a great song and you will see some of this choreo in the Mamamoo+ DangDang because though that is Moonbyul and Solar, the song dangdang was also written with Hwasa back in the Starry Night era and is why the Twit choreo ends up in dangdang. All of them can write music and lyrics. They do it all. They can do each others songs and parts, do comedy and well aces as you said. moonbyul sung this for My Con(Hwasa did Eclipse was awesome live, I can brag I saw). Maria was done by all 4 of them in MyCon. LMM always have to remember mamamoo members all can make you feel any emotion completely, there are other songs like this from Hwasa and the others, no spoilers, the impact is better if you dont know. i'm a B is my favorite of hers and she does do that traditional dance in live performances. She is playing on words, the korean word and the phonetic sound in english, she does mean both. And I love my body is her first song after leaving RBW and joining Psy in his PNation, if the mamamoo pattern follows we should see a hwasa album in a couple of months. a Single will drop a couple OSTs, hwasa has done this so soon an album. Wheein did it not long ago. Solar has dropped some OSTs, so a single should be next. Probably insane I stan mamamoo so much I know almost as much about them as I do Prince.

For "i"m a b", she is actually using a korean word for 'light' that just happens to sound like 'bitch', so she decided to use some wordplay (wordplay tends to be a huge thing in her solo music, though some needs actual korean speakers to explain)

All of Hwasas title tracks have a deeper meaning for her. Twit is about a guy she love that devoted all his time to her whenever she didn't had to work and she called him a twit for living only for her until she realised to late that she was the twit in the relationship. Maria is about all the hate she received looking and behaving different from what is expected of an idol. The beginning with her funeral shows what would happen if she had to go through it alone and the end shows the reality with Mamamoo there for her. LMM is from the Maria album and also about the hate. The arrows are all the hate comments she received no matter where she goes or what she does but none hitting her or hurting her except the one she shot herself. I'm a B is an amazing worldplay between B**ch and Bich, which is korean and translates to Light. She does what she wants and people care too much about it because she is a Light/B**ch. Psy send her I love my body after she got sued for alleged public indecency. Some woman sued her over some moves Hwasa did during a performance at a university. He told her it's her song if she wants it no matter where she signs. (She didn't decide yet) Listening to the song stopped her from crying and it's an amazing reaction to the lawsuit that is thankfully over.

Oh, don't worry too much about getting tears watching 'LMM', that's EVERY actual fan. Especially anybody who knows what this poor kid went through before debut, only to have haters INSTANTLY (they could not even wait until the first album was out to tear her down, no, no). 'LMM' was the perfect follow up to 'Maria' because it hits on part of 'Maria's theme, the part where she thinks she is going crazy. 'LMM' stands for 'Losing My Mind'. At some point she gets FED UP with holding in return fire for her hates and lashes out, which really only hurts her more because she realizes she has stooped to their level. after that, she believes there is just no choice but to grin and bare it, so she finally starts to develop the thick skin required of all Entertainers, no matter their field. Our sweet-hearted maknae...just wow.

Oh man, for osts... hwasa only has one, "orbit", but it is one of my favorites Moonbyul has two osts, though one is a collab with another artist. Her recent is all her, though (and about time for that!) Solar and wheein both have a lot of solo osts, and it is hard to pick from them, because all are so good. That said, i think my favorites for solar are "adrenaline" and "blue bird". Wheein... "with my tears" is likely going to be the most suggested (it was highly beloved in south korea) and i really like "you you", though it is for a manhwa (comic book) instead of a movie or show

Also, since it'll be a while for solar's solos, i'll mention that she was the last of the four to officially debut as a solo artist, despite being the first 3rd gen female artist (not already a soloist) to have a solo concert (moonbyul was the second, years later. Kind of crazy, that). But solar does have a great series of covers called 'solar's emotions' or 'solar gamsung'. I believe you've already watched one of those, so suppose this is just a reminder

You can't help but feel that all of her singles (aside from Twit, I suppose) are somewhat reflective of her experiences in the public eye. They all definitely feel very personal. The irony of that is the *reason* the songs feel personal is because we all know a lot of the hardships she's had to deal with because her life and choices are constantly being scrutinised by the media (which itself is part of the problem) 🙃 25:20 she is kind of saying "bitch" but it's not quite what you think. It's kind of a play on words. Technically she is saying "빛" (the word for "light" in Korean) which is pronounced the same. So it's like she's saying "I'm a Bitch" and "I'm shining Bright" at the same time 😊 When she heard the demo for 'I Love My Body' that is what made her chose to join Pnation. She was feeling very low due to the police investigation into her "public indecency" and that song was exactly what she needed

Hwasa's music is so incredibly touching and genuine, without a doubt LMM is one of my favorite songs.

I feel you, it's really hard paying attention to both lyrics and visuals while also trying to understand it all at first watch, especially when the MVs are so full of symbolism and depth! I'm sure other Moos will explain their meanings very well in the comments, or that you'll have understood them better by the time you listen to the albums in full :D LMM makes me tear up, too, her vocals shine so perfectly through - I think all four of them have this insane ability to truly infuse their voices with whatever emotion they want us to feel and punch it directly into our hearts, and it's rarely more obvious than in ballads, for sure. ILMB immediately reminded me of the early Mamamoo days, I love that this was her first track with Pnation and how much it meant to her after the hell of a summer she'd had with that ridiculous university event "scandal". Can't wait for the albums 🤘

Hwasa is a real ace. She can do everything and is good at everything and successful. Her artistry is so good. For me she is the best kpop soloist in the game. There’s nothing she’s missing!

While "I Love My Body" is not in a style that Hwasa usually sings for her solo, she chose it as a single because it made her smile. After some controversy, and getting a lot of negative, hate comments, she was really sad. PSY, her new label CEO, happen to send her this song and she smiled/laughed for the firs time in a while. This was the first title track that she didn't take part in writing.

Hwasa is a big perfectionist when it gets to her music which is good as she drops good quality stuff but can be kinda frustrating when you're just starving for more hwasa music yet you know she has to be extremely satisfied with the music and everything has to align or else she won't release it. According to her, Maria is basically her only song where's she's been 100% satisfied with before putting it out. Also if it's possible I'd suggest watching a video from DKDKTV called Hwasa - Maria and LMM explained as it might give you a good grasp and insight on some of the meanings behind the lyrics and video.

I really think you should include the OST "Orbit" from the Eternal Monarch soundtrack. I normally don't go for OST much but that one is so beautiful! It may sound like a really strange thing to say, but hearing Hwasa sing Orbit made me wish that one day when my time in this world is finally up, I could die happy if the last thing I heard was Hwasa's voice singing that song. That might be a bizarre thought, but it might be the closest thing to heaven I'll ever hear in this world.

They are truly amazing, I wish the creators had continued making them for all of her music. Believe it or not, it will make you love her, and her music even more!

A lot of others have covered many details for all her solos already, so i won't join in. Will just mention some other things I absolutely suggest checking out the behind the scenes mmmtv episodes for "twit", both to see/hear some od hwasa's creativity in action and to see her and wheein goof around when wheein shows up to lift her mood durimg the shoot (same way hwasa showed up as wheein's support for "easy") Also, many take "easy" and "twit" to be two sides of the same coin, as they seem to discuss similar relationships feom opposite points of view, but they could actually be talking the exact same relationship: one hwasa was in herself She mentions when talking about the song that it was based on a relationship she was in, but while she was the one who poured her whole heart into it and got ignored, she wrote it from the other person's pov. Possibly because wheein's "easy" was already from hwasa's pov (neither one of them had said this, but you know wheein already knew every detail of everything)

it doesn't matter how many times I watch LMM, i cry every single time. Sometimes I can make it all the way to the end, but the second she starts to get emotional I'm a goner

I don't know if it was on purpose but Twit and Wheein's Easy are about the same kind of relationship but from the opposite perspectives. Singing together since middle school and debuting together, of course they agreed to cameo in each other's videos when they started soloing. Mamamoo covering each other's solos is also Heavenly. I really want Solar's Lunatic for my playlist.

Basically, I'm a B is Maria part two, or an alternate ending, something like that. She's not actually calling herself a bitch, she's questioning everybody else who calls her a bitch, with her 'Excuse me?'. She then gives them something like 'You really wanna see me turn into a bitch, I can do that but you had better learn to be careful what you wish for...'.

Since Wheein and Hwasa have been besties from middle school, of course they would be there to support each other during the first solo foe each. Tit-for-tat. :) Some time between recording the 'Maria' MV and actually getting to perform it on stage, Hwasa was severely injured in her back. I think she blew out a disk or something (?). She was on some pain blockers which did not always work but SHE STILL PERFORMED ON STAGE and DESTROYED that dance! Crazy!

When I saw those scissors in the Maria MV, I thought it might symbolize self-harm. I hope it isn't something she's struggled with but I wouldn't be surprised if she has. Either way, I pray she's in a better place.

I’m a B is a play on words. She’s technically saying I’m a ‘bit’, the Korean word for light. The pronunciation of the word sounds like the English word ‘bitch’, so it’s technically aloud to be played on Korean radios and stuff but she still gets away with implying the true meaning. A lot of her songs play with the contrast of dark and light, like the good and the evil. She’s very self aware and is not above recognizing her own faults. Twit is essentially a song about a relationship she had where her bf was so focused on her that it felt like she was suffocating. And she couldn’t reciprocate that kind of attention. So she in the end calls herself the twit because she couldn’t just appreciate what she had. Maria and LMM are her words to herself, encouraging her to love herself and ignore the hate. In LMM, the arrows throughout the video are being shot by the media and k-netizens who write awful things about her. They follow her into her house, even to her room, everywhere she tries to hide they find her, but they never truly hurt her. It’s only the arrow she sims at herself that truly hurts in the end. DKDKTV has some breakdown videos explaining all the intricate and subtle messages in the videos. There’s a ton of symbolism and double meanings in lyrics that may be hard to catch if you’re not familiar with certain film techniques or Korean cultural references. They do an awesome job of breaking down the visual and lyrical meanings.
