This song totally deserves all the time you want to spend on it. I really liked your interpretation, which adds quite a bit to what everyone else, including me, focuses on in LMM. Hwasa's solo stuff is very personal and I think you're right that these lyrics read like extracts of diary entries. You didn't mention it so maybe you assumed everyone knows LMM stands for Lost My Mind. The arrows represent all the hate she gets just for being herself and doing her thing as an artist. She's at a crisis point in her life and feels like she's losing her mind because she's under attack at all times and doesn't know which way to turn for relief or how she should move ahead with her life. Notice that the arrows follow her from outdoors (public space) to her living room to her bedroom to the small womblike space she retreats to and curls up like a child in a fetal position. There's no escape. Eventually she realizes that the only arrow/hate that can truly hurt her is the one she fires at herself. This realization gives her the strength to move on with her life and career without letting the hate affect her so much and at the end she faces the barrage of arrows without fear or defiance, simply accepting what comes her way like a flower in the rain. The final image seems to express her hope that she can turn the rain of arrows/hate into a field of flowers/love. Not that there's any doubt that she's referring to herself in the epigram at the beginning of the MV but fyi Hwa is a Sino-Korean word for flower, which also explains why Hwasa's album in Mamamoo's 4 Season 4 Color series is called Yellow Flower. LMM is the bookend song to the main single Maria on Hwasa's Maria EP. After a beautiful intro song Maria is next and LMM is the last song on the digital version of the album. On the cd Hwasa's debut solo song Twit is included as a bonus track. Maria is another song about dealing with her haters. Maria was a huge hit and imo it was the most impactful and socially important song released in 2020, however LMM is such a masterpiece that it was my pick for SOTY. Between 2018 and 2021 a Mamamoo song was my pick for SOTY 3 out of the 4 years - Paint Me, LMM and Where Are We Now. IU's Love Poem was my choice in 2019. I tend to go for ballads. The amount of fantastic, meaningful and important music Mamamoo released in those four years as a group and as solo artists cemented their legacy as one of the best kpop groups ever and in my mind they're the best girl group of all time in any country, language or era.
speaking of Maria, thats uploading as I write this. yes it is absolutely about her worst critic is herself. I honestly say this a lot, anyone can say anything about me, it doesnt hurt me because you cant say something worse than what I had told myself in the past
@Killdeer25 most of Hwasa's song are very personal and meaningful to her. Realizing this, last year she released a more fun song called "somebody" which is a duet with rapper Loco, they have amazing chemistry together and have made 3 collabs together. Don't Somebody Lemon
Notice the Whee… sound that she sang repeatedly during the song? It was both Wheein name and the sound of wind (which is the meaning of Wheein’s name). Wheein and Hwasa met in middle school and has been best friends since then. Hwasa admitted that she doesn’t know how she will be able to stay alive without Wheein. They have been through a lot with each other and also always support each others no matter what. Mamamoo is formed by two pair of soulmates - Hwasa&Wheein, Moonbyul&Solar. Moonbyul and Solar usually called each other old married couple and refers to Hwasa and Wheein as their kids.
This song is so beautiful and imo Hwasa's best. So glad to see you got around to Mamamoo. They are so exceptional and have some of the best talent/presence in kpop.
hwasa solo work "maria and LMM (losing my mind) are very personal projects expressing her sadness, paina nd hurt from constant hate she received since debut... the short video "Nobody else" is pre intro to song maria.. is must watch too. Arrows represent haters, finding her no matter where she goes to hide..only the arrow that hits her is her own self judgement]nt that hurt her...but she finds her strength and power peace thru her life process
Definitely my favourite female voice in kpop or really anywhere. I feel like the C-major was appropriate because this is ultimately a hopeful song. At the end she is strong and calm in the face of the arrows being shot at her knowing she will not be hurt by them anymore. I completely agreed with you about this being a super personal song about her own journey. Kpop calls the flex position the all-rounders or the Ace. It's definitely a sought after or envied position. I've seen many of the great vocalists or rappers etc. express awe at people who can do everything.
oh so the flex position actually has a name? ace eh? i feel like thats such a high pressure position to be in. but its cool you can do it though. Shes your favorite female vocalist? I dont know if I thought about this. I think I'd have to think about that...
@@Killdeer25 yeah I'd probably have to revisit a few of my pre-kpop faves before I declare her favourite female vocalist ever but I know she's up there.
