Welcome to the whiplash of MMM's discography. We never know what they'll do next. You picked good songs for each of them and I like that you went for lesser known songs rather than their hits. As you probably know, queer representation is rare in kpop but it's something MMM has done throughout their career. Colors captures the concept for Solar's Colours album. She spelled the album title that way to emphasize Ours as a way of simultaneously celebrating diversity and community. The message is one of MMM's main themes: love yourself for who you are and respect & embrace others for their unique differences whether it's their looks, race, sexuality, gender ID, or their fashion, career and lifestyle choices. The choreo indicates that "Black, white, pink & purple" are nail colors but I think she chose them as a clever way of saying there are more colors to people than the standard categories used to describe skin color. Versatility is one of Mamamoo's hallmarks. People say MMM can sing anything and write a song about anything and Colours is a perfect example. The album includes 6 songs in completely different genres, five of which she wrote or co-wrote the lyrics and music herself, including Colors and But I. In addition to the vogueing runway style of Colors and the mix of ballad and rock in But I there's also a folk song and a blues song simply called Blues, which is one of if not her best solo song imo. Enjoy the Immortal Songs Medley. In case you're not familiar with the Immortal Songs 2 tv show I think it helps to know that it's a singing competition where current artists cover classic (immortal) songs, often as a tribute to an older artist who is the honored guest for that episode. MMM appeared on the show 14 times between 2015-19 and the Immortal Songs Medley includes snippets of some of the songs they performed between 2015-17.

Solar explained that this song basically means you can do whatever you want and be whoever you want (those are like the colors) - at the end of the day "it doesnt matter." She said she wanted to make an empowering self-confidence anthem and I think she def delivered! :) like you said every song feels different, and for solar esp this latest comeback was designed so that every song fell under a different genre. I would suggest also checking out her song Blues!

That’s the best part about Mamamoo. If different from everything else in K-pop, but it’s also different from what they’ve already done. Mamamoo can literally pull of any sound they want and they allow themselves to be creative and stop out of boxes and comfort zones. Solars album in particular is very much about proving to herself that she is capable of so many things and she can excel in different genres. She pretty much saw this as a challenge to explore new sounds and play with her vocals. Solar, like all the members, is always looking to advocate for marginalized groups and to promote self love. This isn’t the first time she’s given a platform to the LGBTQ community or drag queens in particular. Of course they were in the HIP MV, but she’s also invited drag queens on Solarsido. From what I can tell she really loves and admired drag culture, so I think this was her way to have fun and try a very different genre from everything else she’s done, but also a way to give drag queens a platform in Korean media. She even performed this song with these dancers a few times on live stages which obvious shook some Koreans. 😂 I think most artists would’ve performed But I since it would be far more palatable for most Korean viewers and it wouldn’t risk controversy. But Solar does want she wants. And I love her for it. 😂 Wheein is saying “my head is trash”. Although to me it always sounds like she’s saying “trashy” but that still works. lol and Hwasa’s solo was actually a bar. She wanted to say I’m a Bitch, but because of strict censorship laws in Korea that title wouldn’t be allowed to be played on certain radio shows and award shows. So instead she used the Korean word for “light” which is pronounced bit. Which is pretty cool cause Hwasa means “shining bright” so it’s kind of also a play on her name. And the whole song is about her duality, the light and darkness of her personality. You can’t get her good side without the bad. So I think it’s very fitting that in one language she’s good and in the other, she’s bad (light vs bitch). She was having a hard time writing this mini album. Her first two came easier to her since she had been in a rough mental state and so her words came to her naturally. But with this album she wasn’t really going through anything that inspired her to write. So she realized she’d been taking out her frustration on her co-writers and producers. She felt bad but ultimately decided that to get through the process of being creative she had to be a bitch sometimes to keep herself sane. So that self reflection inspired her to write this song. That’s the filling about Hwasa’s solo work that grabs me the most- she is so bluntly honest with herself and is brave enough to share her flaws and fears with the world. It’s one thing to be a great artist. It’s another to be that vulnerable at the risk of being judged. It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite Moonbyul solo song, and the fact that she has so many in her discography doesn’t help. But Eclipse is definitely one of the top on my list, even though it’s one of her first songs. She’s grown so much in such a short time when it comes to her vocal ability and her sound, so I have to admit she’s gotten better every album. But this still hits different and her vocals are still incredible in this song, no matter how much she’s improved since this came out. She may not be a main vocal in the group, but I’ve probably listened to her songs just as much as I listen to Hwasa’s, who is my bias. So that’s saying something. Moonbyul’s voice sounds like a warm hug and she always puts me in a better mood when I listen to her.

빛 ("bich") in korean means "light", so Hwasa's not saying what you think she's saying. However, there's definitely a double entendre in there.

She however does mean it to mean what it sounds like. And she had a lot of hassle to get it past the censors in Korea. Which is really amazing when you know that Moonbuyl's "shut down" didnt face any issues at all, to the surprise of everyone including Hwasa.

Personally, I think Solar's saying the colors of the genderfluid flag. Black white pink purple (she didn't mention blue but that could be intentional) and then she says 'it doesn't matter'? Just my personal interpretation. She's basically just saying be who you are, it doesn't matter what other people think.

Solar is talking about nail polish based on her hand movements. But she could also be referring to her clothes.

You picked my favorites for moonbyul, wheein, and hwasa. Solar is my bias and my favorite singer anywhere, Colors comes from her new album Colours. Colors is an EDM song with vogueing as the dance and she was at the House of Love in korea which is as you guessed all about gender fluidity. She wrote the song years ago but used it here because each of the 6 songs on the album are a different genre. But I is rock and the MV is awesome, the best song is Blues which is an actual blues song, the other 3 songs are great and hit R&B, Pop and Folk. She wrote and composed the music for colors, easy peasy and Empty are entirely wirtten and composed by Solar, But I and Blues she is also credited on only one song she did not write. Really all 4 of them write lyrics, compose and produce, including what goes in the MVs, for years now anything coming from mamamoo is basically produced by the group itself with help from others where needed.
