Leonard Bernstein Concert Band - Grade 4
rom one of the greatest musicals of all time, here is Bernstein's ever-popular Mambo in a carefully adapted and edited version that reduces some of the extreme technical demands of the original. This arrangement is notated in cut time for ease of reading and is scored a third lower. However, none of the authenticity or energy has been altered, resulting in a stunning showcase for concert or festival, or even an encore.

I played this arrangement back in elementary school with our all-conference recorder band and, and let me tell you the percussion part where you bang your recorder on your partner for them to remember to yell mambo is hard as all heck.

Played this on 1st Alto Sax for two concerts this past week. Our Brunswick Concert Band played at about 2/3 this tempo and it was hard enough!!

We played this for a school concert, and we shook everyone. It was such a joy. However, being a clarinet player, the opening melody and the closing version of the same melody was jumping three octaves in about two bars, and it was really hard.

I just played this at a clinic and I struggled the entire time. I played the Xylophone part. I ended up using yarn mallets because I just knew that I was going to mess up during the concert 😓

Been watching this like crazy. My goal to do this. Had a lot of the instruments... Just now finishing up adding the latin percussion stuff.Building a castinet machine this week. I don't buy a whole lot of things new.. I did buy a Miller Machine though... Now to find the music parts....

as a tuba player this piece is very confusing to read and listen to at the same time😂, all the upbeats sound like the down beat and it doesn’t feel right to read upbeats and hear downbeats.

Hmm. I played this on clarinet. On the one hand, it made me better at playing high notes. On the other hand, I have yet to see how messy it comes out when the recording is put together (we played this virtually bc of Covid)

No, not the same but a good one nonetheless. The range for a lot of instruments are lower and some of the parts are different.
