In 1979 young Donna, Tanya and Rosie graduate from Oxford University -- leaving Donna free to embark on a series of adventures throughout Europe. On her journeys, she makes the acquaintances of Harry, Bill and Sam -- the latter whom she falls in love with, but he's also the man who breaks her heart. In the present day, Donna's pregnant daughter, Sophie, dreams of renovating a taverna while reuniting with her mother's old friends and boyfriends on the Greek island of Kalokairi.

@@Aya-iz4xc while it's possible that in the first movie Bill said his aunt's name was also Sophie (it's been a while and I couldn't find the scene to double check it), in the second movie the character is introduced as Sophia (and actually listed on Wikipedia as Sofia - fun fact: when English is needed for a Greek official document, like a passport or an ID, they do a letter by letter transliteration and write it as Sofia) In the greek language, the given name is Σοφία (Sofia), though Σόφη (Sofi) can be sometimes used as a pet name.

This movie was an *emotional masterpiece* and I am so bloody tired of people popping up, trying to find fault with it. If you hated it or whatever, that's your opinion. Let the rest of us cry and laugh and have fun, though. Edit: jaysusmarynjoseph. . . I was not expecting to come back almost a year later to see over 1k people agreeing with me. Thank you all. I hope each of you has felt the strength of love this movie so wonderfully portrays.

I lost 4 babies befor i had my eldest daughter since then i have the joy of another girl and 2 boys and still goin through tough times as my 3yo boy is havin chemo for a tumor my other boy is asd and my 4 wk old dd is in hospital with bronchiolitis this movie alwys cheers me up and hopefully ur lives are as fulfilling as mine congrats btw

This song conveys so much emotion and really shows the love that not only Sophie, but Rosie and Tanya have for Donna too, and how Sophie will love her child the way that Donna loved her. I never cry at anything, but this song really touched my heart. It's just so powerful and meaningful. ❤️

Who else shed tears in the theatres? I went to see it 3 times and saw many people cleaning their eyes, including myself. It is so emotional even if you're not a mother. Amanda's voice and those flashbacks of Sophie's birth. Damn 😓

I'm so glad I got to continue this story. When I 1st watched mamma Mia 1 I was 6 years old and loved it. Now I watched this at 15 and seriously those memories of the 1st movie were so clear. The story is so emotional and the songs are so good. I really miss this and the good old days

"Do it for your mom, baby." For my spring piano/vocal recital next month I'm going to do this and surprise my mom by dedicating it to her; for Christmas this year I got her matching mother/daughter bracelets (they're silver with pastel pink, blue, yellow and green stones, and my recital dress is white with pastel flowers and pastel green stems, so it matches the bracelets; my shoes are white) and Cher's new "Dancing Queen" CD, which I bought on release day and hid in my desk until Christmas. In my previous post I mentioned that my parents adopted me at 10 months old after struggling for 15 years to have children; my mom had a pelvic laparoscopy done (which came back negative) and my parents had two failed IVF's, they eventually found out my dad has a low sperm count and decided to adopt about 8 years into their marriage (it takes about 7 years for a first adoption from beginning to end).
