Mamma Mia REACTION - Or as I call it "My Three Dads" 

The response critically to the singing when the movie came out was that Pierce Brosnan was in above his head... but that makes it more charming to me? Like, he went all in. Most of the others (though I can't speak for Skarsgård) had singing experience, I don't believe Brosnan did. But I think he did quite well and, again, I enjoy it.

Mamma mia is a type of musical known as a "jukebox musical". Essentially, they are musicals where the plot is written around the songs of a specific artist/group/genre. That's why the plot can seem disjointed or direct at times, because each scene is just a step to the next song. Some other (stage) examples are: We will rock you - queen The bodyguard - Whitney Houston Vampire rock - 80's rock songs

Julie Walters is such a delight, with honestly pretty great range. I love her in this, and as Mrs. Weasley in the HP movies.

Mamma Mia is ridiculous and I can't help but love it. It always puts me in a good mood. Agreed: the singing of the 3 dads were the weakest links.

I LOVE this film so much! It's so fun, heartwarming, silly and just...feel-good to the max! And I adore that all these A-list actors and actresses threw themselves into it, not at all afraid of taking the piss out of themselves or of their...well, mediocre singing makes it even more fun. My favorite thing about this movie is how obvious it is that the cast had fun. I think that's what makes it so good to me. My favorite performance is definitely "The Winner Takes it All". Meryl Streep did such a good job with it.

If you know your ABBA you can spot Benny Andersson at the piano during the Dancing Queen scene and Björn Ulvaeus as one of the gods in heaven at the end. The american producers did not want them to be in the film, they did not realize that ABBA is one of the biggest bands ever and maybe as well that the whole film is based on their songs. Swedish band, british idea and writers, american money. This was so much fun watching in the film theaters. All of us applaud at the end. The cast from all over the western world seemed to really have so much fun.

Everyone should watch the Making of. It seems like they all just had a lot of fun while filming Mamma Mia and in my opinion thats also the feeling you get watching this movie. Fun fact: When Meryl Streep heard they are making this movie she asked to play Donna, Amanda Seyfried was cast because of her singing voice and her similar looks to Meryl. The three guys all signed when they were asked to do a movie with Meryl Streep on a beautiful greek island and only later it downed on them: OMG, it´s ABBA and I have to sing!😂 The funny part about the guys trying to sing you can find in the RU-vid video: "MM Cast: Becoming a Singer!"

This is just a silly piece of fluff movie. I was lucky to see this on Broadway and it was definitely better. Some of the choreography works better on stage and of course it’s edited down . The reviews for it weren’t great especially about some of the singing. Pierce Brosnan being a standout bad. People loved it though. I saw it the weekend it opened in a sold out theater as part of a work ladies night out. Do I think it’s a great movie? No. Do I love it? Absolutely ! I rewatch it often because it always makes me laugh and smile.

I am crazy for pretty much all musicals and movie musicals. The one you were talking about with John Travolta is Hairspray! :) Also a great one to check out.

Yeah Pierce’s voice in this was about as good as Russell Crowe in Les Miserables 😆 still a fun movie and love seeing Julie Walters in such a different role from Mrs. Weasley! Would love to see your reaction to the musical Hairspray!

XD My favorite song? Hmm... I think it was probably Lay All Your Love On Me. (The guys dancing in the flippers cracks me up every time!) Also, Does Your Mother Know That You're Out. And Voulez Vous. And Take a Chance on Me.... XD Sorry, but I do like most of the songs! On another note... Have you ever watched Ladyhawke? It's one of my favorite movies, and it has some serious star power: Matthew Broderick, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Rutger Hauer (who gets to play the hero for a change!) Plus, it has an excellent sound track by Alan Parson's Project.

My favourite thing about this whole movie is when the actor who played Sky went on Graham Norton, and Miriam Margolyes didn’t know who he was. When she was reminded that he was in Mamma Mia, she said “oh it was a dreadful film” 😂🤣

I really recommend watching the sequel, I think it's better than the first with a much more cohesive plot

Sam Carmichael was Pierce Brosnan’s fathers name and had recently passed away THATS why he took the part, kind of like a sign, to me, he was right, he was great..not singing, but I give him kotos for doing it anyway, I loved them both, …just found the sequel last week and it’s April 4 2024, what a happy surprise, only wish Mom would have lived for it, she loved “ Momma Mia “ , and would love the sequel too.

It's such a fun and weird movie and I wouldn't have it any other way And the response to the "bad" singing? Adds to the movie, it's perfect. If they all sung perfectly, where's the fun in that?

In the sequel we see alot of flashbacks of the time when Donna met the 3 guys

I believe it’s the Greek spit on the Brides Gown for good luck🎉🎉🎉, and Sam never told her he was coming back, so why would she wait ? And this Waterloo was at the very end, after the credits they sang this one and then another song, great fun.

So, the plot of this was written from the lyrics of the ABBA songs, also the part winner takes it all done by meryl was done in one take x

But she doesn’t mean it in a bad way when she invited all three, she just wants to know her Dad, and her mom doesn’t know who is the father…..girl do when we see a friend in a long time, yes I’ve screamed so happy to see them, it’s a girl thing I guess.

The plot, the characters, the resolution...it was all a bit unorganic, underdeveloped and disjointed. However, the music, the Mediterranean setting, familiar faces (not Oscar worthy performances) and the pure, utterly silly and goofy fun of it made it work for me. I rewatched it just for the scenery sometimes.

So this movie is from the 1999 actual London West End Musical which is still running today. The musical has productions all over the world and was on Broadway round about the time of the time of 9-11. It was were M Streep saw it and fell in love with it. So when she was approached to play the role of Donna she jumped at it. So the ABBA Gold CD came out in 1992 and went to no 1 on uk, I’m 1999 when the musical opened it want back to no 1 and again in 2008 when the movie came out and hold the uk record for longed space between no 1 spells in the charts. it was also the 1st ever album to spend 1,000 weeks I’m the uK charts. It is still in the UK charts today at no 20 and it has now spent a whopping 1,112 weeks there. My favourite song is The Winner Takes it All although the 2021 son Don’t Shit me Down on a very close second. The good th k about the sequel it that the male actors do not sing that much 😂

Fight me but this is a modern classic! My generation grew up with Mamma Mia but we have to give credit where credit is due let's all thank ABBA for the music!

It was a Broadway show before they made the movie. I enjoy the sequel as well. It was also better received by critics. They did do some retcon-ing in it, but it is a ton of fun. Also features someone interesting as Donna's mom...even though this movie makes it seem as if Donna's mom has passed.

I saw this movie on a Greyhound Bus more than one time. My Three Dad’s is a great title for this movie. lol It is a pretty good movie though.

Aww love ABBA music. I believe this based on the red head from ABBA Ani-Frid aka Frida or Annie. She was born in Norway to a Norwegian mother and and a German soldier father in German occupied Norway. When Germany lost the war he took off before she was born. Norweigans didn't like these children of German soldiers and often abused them in horrible ways so her mother and grandmother fled with her to Sweden where she grew up. Her mother died when she was 2 and she didn't find her father well into adulthood. Her grandmother raised her. I think they took from that story.

Some of the singing in both Mamma Mia movies is definitely questionable, but I do enjoy the story of the second one!

Dreadful film, but so much fun. The story is actually inspired by a film from the 1960s called Buono Sera Mrs Campbell.

My Two Dads was an American TV show. I like the second Mamma Mia much better. I like Honey Honey and Mamma Mia in this movie. I watched Mamma Mia for the first time about 5 years ago. I thought the first one was overrated.

I can't. This Australian male view of women. Not in Europe not in Canada or the USA but okay in Australia still?

I love ABBA, and I was willing to grit my teeth through just about anything to watch Seyfried in that era. But...rewatching it via your reaction was painful at times. (Was it just me or did miss weather-boobs' tan look sprayed on excessively trump-style? or was that maybe just an artifact of the multiple processings of a reaction video?) I agree that most of the songs were not well-performed and assume they cast the biggest names they could get - trying to get studio-backing - without ever stopping to ask if any of them could actually sing. Across The Universe had come out the year prior, and while it was not a huge box-office hit, it did nail the music/story marriage (until the last act) much better than this one did, so this production team probably thought the task would be easier than it turned out to be. But, of course, The Beatles catalog is so much more extensive that it was probably easier to dig around and find songs that fit the narrative rather than the other way around. If you haven't seen that film and are a Beatles fan, I highly recommend it. I grew up with only the Red and Blue greatest hits albums (62-66 and 67-70) and that movie introduced me to a lot of classics that I had never heard before.

I feel so sorry for you. There are good chick flicks, bad chick flicks and chick flicks that embarrass women everywhere and this is the latter. It’s laughably bad. A movie called Mamma Mia, an Italian saying, set in Greece, featuring not a single Greek person. The closest person is the boyfriend, an idiot who wants to give Amanda Seyfried’s ear 3rd degree burns with a cigar. It’s the perfect movie for women to have on when they’re getting drunk on a Saturday. The equivalent of guys getting hammered while watching a football game. This is Cool As Ice bad. Just when you think you’re getting a coherent story and songs that might connect to that story, guess again. And why did Seyfried call all 3 of her potential fathers to her wedding when she could have had a DNA test, solved it and moved on? Is everyone in this movie either an idiot or a complete jerk? This isn’t quite The Room bad, but it’s also not so bad it’s good like that movie. Narcissistic celebrities got drunk and decided they could sing. That’s what the movie is. Amanda Seyfried should just stick to horny movies. Chloe and Lovelace. Or maybe musical movies don’t work in the modern world. The Producers was good, but that was Mel Brooks, and the songs connected to the story. None of the songs here do. It’s just an invasion of white people and all the Greek people just leave apparently.
