Friends was one of my favorite shows growing up, so much so that I can still recite entire scenes line-for-line! I realized there were actually a TON of medical scenes throughout the series, such as Rachel AND Phoebe giving birth, Ross’ third nipple, and Joey’s kidney stones. Let’s take a look at how accurate these scenes were and see if Friends holds up 20+ years later!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

Yup, every mom. It's better than it was years ago. Back 50 years ago they'd be using a pre-schooler, but lately I've seen them pushing the envelope in getting the babies younger and younger. Obviously using a real newborn isn't reasonable, especially for the health of the baby, but they're getting closer.

The woman in the background when Rachel was pushing is an actual RN - she was required to be there bc the ‘newborn actor’ was so small they had to have proper medical personnel for safety Also - the birthing fluid used in the scene is snack jelly (usually grape bc it’s the right colour and consistency) which helps tiny actors self soothe bc it’s sweet and gentle for baby tummies

When my mom went into labour she drove herself to the hospital, got pulled over by cops for speeding, got to the hospital, was told she couldn't have the epidoral (idk how to spell it) because apparently she has a curved spine (which she doesn't), was in labour for 36 hours and one C section later I was brought into this world. The woman in the room next to her was the wife of the cop who pulled her over for speeding. Thanks mom 💜

I love the "when we see a rare....everyone comes in the room." I feel that a million percent. I am a walking medical mess (my family doctor gave me that diagnosis because he is awesome and amazing.) Every time I go to his office and he's got a resident or a PA or new anyone in his office he's like "hey, Charlenes here....send in whoever doesn't know who she is." EVERYONE knows who I am after the first visit. I don't even have to give my name when I call because they all know my voice. (And my daughters. Lol) I was actually his very first patient when he opened his own private practice 25 years ago. He's not a "pediatrician" but he's the only doctor I trust with my daughter and she has been his only pediatric patient since she was born almost 14 years ago.

When the OB saw my scans and figured out what was wrong she asked me if she could bring a few nurses and another doctor to hear my situation for teaching and for letting them see me first hand and hear what happened. Which I was 100% COOL WITH!!!! Ended up that the treatment I took was at the time experimental and my scans ended up in a medical journal.

I don't have kids or plan any, but my Dr. for my IUD explained the cervix, what was going really well, very sweet doctor. Everyone there at the women's clinic is so very sweet, very caring, even talked about extra freezing cause I usually need more then most people- thank you dentist, and the Dr. talking about and understanding so got the right amount. Don't feel shy about talking about this cause it's for your comfort and they are used to this! My regular family doctor, an elderly man now doesn't do it anymore but did explain all my birth control options very well, telling which is probably best for me and why based on my needs and history. Doctors should also be open and talk about everything- just like Dr. Mike says 😀

That part about everyone coming in was relatable, I was at a checkup at the ENT dept in my hospital, the department just opened and were accepting patients for free checkups so my family and I went. A few years before this I had a nasty fall that gave me a long deep scar on my forehead that needed 17 stitches (thus earning me the nickname Potter) so I have medical history with them. I had no idea why there were so many people, but as a girl in a room full of 4-6 (very cute) guys taking turns fussing over my scar made me 1. Nervous (in a bad way bcs ykno..men) 2. Hey, I'm curious how did they end up determining that's what you have? I've wondered if I have possibly been misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia when I might actually have this. My main symptoms that lead to the diagnosis was incredibly debilitating pain in my chest and ribcage which I ended up either bedridden for days or going to the emergency room where they didn't help me at all and said it's heartburn. I can tell you (and told them) with 100% certainty that it's not because A) I know what that feels like and B) I'm on a strict diet to avoid heartburn and IBS symptoms. All my family doctor did to diagnose me with fibromyalgia was poke me in my pressure points (I already was diagnosed with MPS which explains the pressure points) and look at a picture of the muscular skeletal system that I printed out and I colored in where the pain was and it's severity. But she never did any further tests.

Every time I went to see the specialists when they were trying to work out what the problem was, and even more so after the diagnosis was confirmed, there would be a seemingly never ending rotation of new people come in to see me. While I understood the need for educational purposes, having to explain the situation over and over again got very tiring.

My buddy Gabe had a patient who experienced an pneumothoraxic shock from being too close to a jet engine and the sound basically sucked the air out of his lungs... A pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall (called the pleural space). This air pushes on the lung, which makes it collapse. In most cases, only some of the lung collapses.

I am a girl. I have delivered a kidney stone. Worst pain of my life. Vomited from the pain. Never giving birth now choosing to adopt 😂 I had a doctor like Joey's... in fact my doctor imitated him because he's a friends fan to take my mind off the pain 😂

UPDATE: Thanks for all the likes! I've now passed 27 kidney stones in 4 months and am in constant agony. Doctor Mike is right about the pain, but I stopped vomiting with the pain after 7 stones 😂 I've been referred to the hospital but because of Covid it's unlikely I'll be seen soon. My GP is in awe and I have a little jar of stones waiting for the hospital 😂

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how Mike educates all of us. He helped me when my father was sick (he unfortunately passed away) and showed me that I’m not alone. #peewoop
