Mammoth Cave National Park is home to over 365 miles of cave systems (longer than the entire Grand Canyon). The crazy part is that this is the world's longest cave system and it is located right here in Kentucky!
We are giving you a surreal taste of the Broadway Tour (1.75 miles total) which extends nearly 100 feet underground.
We found Mammoth Cave National Park because of our lifestyle of full-time RV living. We will show you the true side of full-time RV living in this episode. Strap in.

To defrost your freezer without letting it warm up, dilute rubbing alcohol to about a 70% solution and spray the inside of the freezer, then wipe it dry. This will work best if you do it frequently without letting it build up too much. This also a good way to keep the freezer clean and avoid freezer odors. Another great video guys!

RV tip: when looking at rigs to purchase, don’t forget to ask about seeing it with the slides closed so that you’ll know what’s accessible and what’s not during travel. 😁
@HappilyEverHanks
@HappilyEverHanks 3 года назад
We learned that the hard way on our first rig! In our 27 foot travel trailer, the one slide out obstructed the bedroom and our cat would always sneak back in there if we let him roam during travel breaks! We totally agree 😊 great tip! Thank you so much for sharing - Kyle and Renee

Great video! Funny story about Mammoth cave. I was there probably about 40 years ago when my daughter was under one year old. We took a three hour tour, the first hour and a half had light, the second was complete darkness except for a lantern. She fell asleep while it was still light, and woke up when it was complete darkness scared to death! She screamed for the next hour and a half. Everyone on the tour just loved us! 🤣😂. Lynn and Danny

We love caves and have been in a few. Mammoth Caves is on our bucket list. We also love to travel in the winter just for the reason of less people where ever we go. When I saw you trying to chip ice out of your freezer, I'm like, "hair dryer, hair dryer" and then you produced the hair dryer. LOL I believe the tires are extremely important. We have a TPMS as well. Great video Kyle and Renee. Great tips and yes, AlliChuck Adventures is a good channel. I like watching them also. I love Alli's laugh.

Love Mammoth Cave. Your photography/videos in slow motion were stunning. Do you know the difference between a cave and a cavern? That is a crazy amount of cave systems. Sounds really cool and interesting. Here's what I do for the freezer, but I'm sure it's not the necessarily the easiest way to do it. One, I get the hair dryer out and lay a large towel in the bottom of the empty freezer. I set the hair dryer as hot as I can get it and lay it on it's side on the sire shelf and semi close the door and just let it blow for a while. Once the ice loosens from the wall 5-10 minutes depending on how much ice has built up in the last 3-6 months since I last did it, I take a table knife and pry whats left away from the wall. It usually comes off easily. I use the towel that's caught most of it and wipe up what it didn't get. Remove it. Then get a clean towel to soak up the rest. Yep, staring is a right of passage when you see a newbie trying to back into a site. I can't wait until I here that you've basically done the same thing to another newbie. LOL

Thank you very much :)) We had a really fun time here, so glad you guys were able to stop by and see! Such amazing tips for the freezer, we need to stay up on it more. Dexter sneaking out during the tip of the week was cute. Wow, I was so caught up watching the rest of this I forgot to comment along the way. WE have not been to Mammouth Cave and we are really sorry about your truck going through all of that. The freezer thing: All I can say is make sure the door seal is solid and if you start to see it freezing over take care of it with the hairdryer real quick, and it won't take but a few minutes to deal with it. I don't know much about tire or automobile stuff. We do have an air compressor in the RV, but I wouldn't know how to patch a tire even if I had a kit. Sadly, we do pay for roadside service for that reason. If something breaks in the motor, Jodi is the one that looks at it. She has fixed it a few times. I have no clue about this stuff except what she teaches me. This means I retained about 20% of that because I honestly have no interesting motors.. LOL ❤️👍👏 Donovan & Jodi

Morning Hanks! I'm watching your older videos and I couldn't help but comment about campground entertainment. I have been a truck driver for over 40 years, and I'm retiring next year. Anyway we were camping at a KOA and we're rolling in late and there was several people at the campsite next to us sitting around the fire. I rolled up, backed straight in, and had the trailer set up in a short amount of time. After we settled in I was outside when one of the neighbors walked over and started talking. He ask if I was a truck driver, and I told him I was. He told me they were all making bets how long it would take me to back in (it was a tight spot). After watching me he said that he told his friends that I must be a truck driver to back in like that! I have had people ask me that many times through our years of camping. I always think it funny when I see folks around the campfire when we roll up, because I know what their all up to! On a side note, we're on our third trailer (all fifth wheels) and our newest trailer is 43' fuzion toy hauler and we love it! Keep up the good work, love your channel, Wally and Susanne Williams

Good morning Wally and Susanne!! Thank you for your support! It's so wonderful to meet you both 😃That's a great story, you must have so much experience that you can practically do it with your eyes closed 😄Love that! Congratulations on the upcoming retirement! What are the plans for you guys when you retire?? Also, it sounds like a great set up you have it the 43' toy hauler (Renee and I have always wanted to have a toy hauler some day). What inspired you guys to first join the RV life?

@@HappilyEverHanks Thank you, I'm really looking forward to retiring. Susanne will retire a year after me, because she's a year younger than me. While she's still working I have many projects to do around the house, as we have over twenty years of stuff accumulated that needs sorting through. We have a son that has special needs and we have to consider his health care, not to mention the fact that we're getting older too. So we need a homebase, but we would like the move out of the city. So that will be upmost on our minds. With the advent of Covid we seen that it put a lot of fulltime RVer's in a bad position, and many people scrambled to find somewhere to stay. That's when we decided we want a homebase. Somewhere we have doctors when we checkups, or if something bad happens we have a place to call home. We started out in 2004 with a new 28' Springdale 5th wheel. That's when we fell in love camping. We met some really nice people (and some not so nice people) and it's a great way to explore the surrounding area from where your camped. Our first big trip will be to Texas to spend time with our daughter and her family. Our grandson graduates in 24' and we want to be there for that. Then our next big trip is to Alaska to look up some friends, explore and fish. We lived in Anchorage for 3 years and Soldotna for 12 years. My second best friend Fred (my wife being my first best friend) and his wife live in Anchorage. Their retiring as well and want to spend time together. Fred and I have been buddies for over 40 years. He has a boat and wants to do some fishing, not to mention camping as well. After that, I'm sure well have many other trips planned as there is a lot of places to explore in this great country of ours. Maybe one of these days we'll get to meet up with the Hanks! Wally and Susanne Williams

We could imagine there must be a lot to go through after 20 years! The upcoming retirements must be that extra fuel to push through and keep that excitement alive 😃 We totally understand about the home base thing, that is really smart. 😱 the stress of backing in with an audience! Saw a sign a camper had on his site- "let's drink beer and watch people back in" 😂 recently we were on a site that was on the corner of the campground road, very tough angle and tried a few times. Of course cars are waiting, other campers watching, finally I made a loop around and before I tried again, my wife had a great idea- since there was a lot of grass and the back of site, I made it a pull through site! Pulled on in and set up on the pad- easy peasy! Thanks for the videos and safe travels!

I realize this was posted a year ago but seeing that most of the comments are about Mammoth (just down the road from me) I want to make a suggestion about your defrosting tactic - don't yank, chisel, spear, beat, wiggle, pry, etc. on your fridge!! Pretty much nothing in an rv is built for even gentle abuse (the sturdier something is the more it weighs...) One small nick can cause an irreparable leak and yanking, etc. can cause a crack to open and leak. If you don't have an ice chest wrap everything in heavy towels (to insulate) place what you can in the sink and or tub/shower. Then place a few towels in the freezer while defrosting. Use a hair dryer, heat cube (keep them in spots where they can't become wet and electrocute you or cause a fire from sparks) and read a book, watch a game or movie while it melts. Don't stray too far if using heat.

Love Mammoth Caves and the whole area. As for the freezer, the best tip we have ever seen is to place Press N Seal film on the back wall and the floor of the freezer. When the time comes to defrost, you pull the film off and put the frost in the sink to thaw. Place new film on and you are done. We did this and it works like magic. Takes about 10 minutes. I have also seen plastic cutting boards used the same way.

Shelley and I rental a travel trailer for the first time back in September. We were running late to pick it up and thus were the last to arrive at our first campground for a nine-day trip, and of course, it was the weekend. I had done a ton of research on RV'ing. I watched all of the first-timers videos on RU-vid, so I knew what to expect. Since we were the last to arrive, I knew that we that evening’s live entertainment for the campground. I was able to calmly get the trailer backed into our spot with only two pull-ups. I even managed to level the trailer. It was then that I thought, wow, this is not that hard. Yep, that was the second mistake. The first was not hooking the trailer to hitch and letting the guy we rented it from do it while I backed up my truck. A hitch type that I had never used when hauling with my truck. You see, we needed to head into town and pick up a few items that we had forgotten in our haste. We screwed around with that hitch for about 30 minutes, and the neighbors started coming over to see if they could. After another 45 minutes, the trailer was still hitched to the truck. None of us in the campground knew how to disengage the hitch. The next morning when there was plenty of light, I quietly made my way outside to that evil hitch, and within five minutes, I had the ball disengaged, and the truck pulled away from the trailer. One of the neighbors from the night before walked over and asked how I finally did it. I said that I the manufacturers completing video on RU-vid. The rest of the trip a lot more fun. Shelley and I meet a lot of friendly people on that trip. Great video, guys. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels.

Be very careful when you are defrosting your freezer with sharp objects. The Freon lines on some are really close to the sides and you can puncture them . I have fixed them before for people when that had happened with some JB weld If you ever get a micro leak in your AC and it’s 410 A they make a really good leak seal from clip light with advanced super seal . They sale a 3 oz can and also a pound and a half can comes with hose . Its really good for mini splits and motor homes . If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself you shouldn’t. But if you do it’s the best .

@@HappilyEverHanks So far the truck has been trouble free, other than an "animal caused issue" that required $4500 repair bill to replace the two main wiring harnesses. Insurance covered the repair. I started binge watching your channel from the beginning today at work while I was shuffling Chromebooks around testing them for operation.

Also I watched a PDI video on the 2930 (as I wait patiently for it AND MY TRUCK). I kid a little. Anyways. In that video they emphasize on not opening the slides unless the stabilizers are down and the rig is level. You mention in this video of another RV’er that had a problem with leaf springs.
@HappilyEverHanks
@HappilyEverHanks 3 года назад
No we totally understand that feeling! It’s so exciting getting new toys. Did they say when they are supposed to be ready for pick up?? Yes, we don’t open our slides unless we are level and have the stabilizers down. I’m not sure what circumstance they were in where they had their slides out without the stabilizers 🤔 I’ll have to ask them and see

@@HappilyEverHanks no...I won’t get a pick up notice until Feb. the RV goes into production in January. The truck “SHOULD be” the same. I hope to take delivery of both end of February early March! (Spending the kids inheritance LOL)

Hey guys. It’s me again! Still waiting for my truck AND my 2930. Next time you have to defrost. Try putting all your frozen goods in a cooler. Even one of those Costco freezer bags. Whatever will help keep it frozen. If it’s 30 outside you may even be good outing ur food in a box or something. Then try boiling a pot of water and put it in the freezer. Doors closed freezer off. I HATE using a pick or chipping the way you guys were. It would be Awful to puncture the liner. BUT once you get it started with the hot water trick. It comes off easy. Mop it up really good in there then turn your freezer back on. Repack ur food back in right away and it will help ur freezer to cool. Hopefully that helps make that job a little easier.

Hey Brian! Thanks for stopping by again 😃👍🏼 so good to hear from you, sorry you are still waiting for the truck and 2930... I’m sure it feels like it is taking foooooorever lol That’s an awesome idea! I don’t know why we didn’t think of something like that. The hair dryer worked fairly well, but we will definitely give this a try next time. That chisel hammers definitely hit the liner a few times. Live and learn I guess, that’s why we have awesome people like you to help us 😀 We were gonna ask if you saw last weeks video with the “5 things to think about before RV living” ? Was curious what some of your thoughts were on the topic and points that we brought forth in the video :) Awesome to hear from you, we just got to Pennsylvania. It is cold! Well.... not super cold, but definitely low 30’s. Also it is supposed to snow like a foot and a half this week and drop to the low teens at night time 🥶 might have to get some skirting for sure - Kyle and Renee

@@HappilyEverHanks referring to the hot water idea...make sure you use a hot plate under your pot. Preferably a cork board. You can’t fold up a tea towel and put it underneath. But a cork board is best to prevent thermal transfer. I would hate to see you damage the bottom of your freezer!

Mammoth caves is a must see! It’s so vast that there are private cave tours over 20 miles away in every direction that are also connected to the same cave network. You can’t ever possibly see them all. If you didn’t get the opportunity to descend the staircase at the back entrance, you need to next time. I don’t know how they built it because the stairs wind down through the narrow cracks for like 10 minutes. You’re constantly ducking, leaning, and crouching all the way down because it’s so narrow! Pretty awesome.

@HappilyEverHanks 3 года назад
That’s amazing, we had heard of something like that but I think it was closed down when we just visited because of everything. That sounds super awesome though! Was it ever claustrophobic-ish on the stairs at any point??
@thompsona10625

It would have been for anyone that suffers from claustrophobia. A larger person probably would not fit. It was tight

@@thompsona10625 I don't like to think of myself as claustrophobic, but I had an episode where I had to talk myself down for a split second (was able to get control of it). I wonder if this is something that will happen again or get worse as I get older?? Hopefully not..

I have a question… why don’t you use your ViaAir to fill up your paddle boards?
@HappilyEverHanks
@HappilyEverHanks 3 года назад
We actually don't have an attachment for our ViAir to fill up the paddle boards. Also with it making on demand air, we aren't 100% sure it could fill up the amount of air needed in the paddle boards. Maybe we will buy some kind of automated pump soon :) It gets tiring!

We were at the Gettysburg KOA and a older couple pulled in with a large 5th wheel and they kept trying to back in to there site and the husband kept backing into a large rock on the drivers side rear of the 5th wheel and his wife was yelling at him. Finally my wife told me to go help this poor guy before his wife was going to kill him . I told him to loop around the driveway and come in on a different angle and he was able to back it in successfully.I should have known something was up when I notice his left mirror was missing. It turns out he hit a sign at the last campground while leaving the park.You can’t make it up if you try!
