The heyday of the Mammoth Mine and Smelter lasted for about 20 years in the early 1900s. They extracted and processed valuable natural resources in large quantities. They were also the driving force behind the economy of the town of Kennett and parts of Shasta County. On the other hand, it came at the cost of a physical toll on the workers and environmental devastation to the area’s ecology.
