Man City have won a legal fight with the Premier League over commercial rules governing clubs, including two large sponsorship deals the club was blocked from completing.
An independent panel found the Premier League's rules regarding commercial deals between clubs and related parties, such as City's dealings with Etihad, are unlawful.

This is a sporting competition. There are rules if you want to play in the competition. Is it unfair that City can only put 11 players on the pitch when they'd like to put 15 on the pitch? Is it unfair that they can't dope their players if they wanted to do that? City's owners can pump as much money as they want into City, but they can't count all that income for PSR if the phantom sponsorship deals are above fmv.

No you can't. The judgement hasn't ruled against APT, in fact they've ruled that these rules are perfectly legal. It's some of the procedural stuff that City have "won" this case against. APTs will still have to be at fair market value.

Turns out that getting hundreds of millions in 'free' loans that might have to be repaid to shareholders is more likely to bankrupt a club than getting your pals airline to pay over the odds for shirt sponsorship. So it's obvious that if the rules were created to do what they say - this would have been on the rules. But that's not why the rules were created. Deep down everyone knew this. Now City's lawyers just proved it.

All this will mean is increasing player wages even further and fewer clubs will be able to compete. It’s actually a tragedy for competition if we are all being honest, I’m wondering which rules these are that say artificially inflating sponsorship deals is legal?

Actually it's the opposite. Rich owners CAN now invest in smaller PL clubs to make it more competitive against Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle etc.... now that's fair to anyone like Everton who are now an attractive option with their new stadium etc

@@karlos55555 why would someone rich invest in a Premier League club knowing that Newcastle will be able to invest anything they like if they want to win the league? It might become bad even for Man City at that point if MBS decides he wants Newcastle to win the Premier League for the next 10 years they have plenty of money to do it. It will be as boring as City winning it every year has been.

The APT rules haven't been ruled unlawful. It's just some of the procedural stuff that they successfully challenged. And City have managed to screw over some of the smaller clubs like Wolves, Bournemouth, Fulham & Brentford.

This ruling is going to create massive friction between Man City and those that went against them. i.e Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U, Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham, West Ham, Wolves, especially as some of them enjoyed massive interest free loans from shareholders, which is undoubtedly against the spirit of the rules. This could get very nasty!

In my opinion. The issue is that we are sold a lie. We don’t need a multi billion pound/dollar league to enjoy watching football. Ive had more fun watching local teams in the last year meeting all kinds of people. Can anyone justify the wage a footballer gets when you see how much money you earn per month?
