Man Doing "No Mow May" Spreads INVASIVE WEEDS Into His Neighbors YARDS

I met this man who told me that he was participating in "no mow may." What he didn't know was that he was actually growing invasive weeds in his yard and spreading the seeds into his neighbors yards. When I knocked on his door back in the middle of May, he told me to come back in June to mow the yard. I knew it was going to be overgrown, but what I didn't know was how badly his backyard was full of these invasive weeds. I sure hope the neighbors enjoyed his yard being transformed, especially all of the debris that was bagged and hauled away. Do you participate in "no mow may"? Let me know in the comments down below!

No mow May is a new thing people won't cut the grass because of flowers blooming are food for butterflies and bees. It is dumb bees gather the pollen not just in May. It's just an excuse.

This is the first time I have ever heard of "no mow May." It sounds like a good way to get behind on one's yard for the entire growing season. If the goal is to create more habitat for bees I would think that planting perennial flowers in a flower bed or adding flowering shrubs to the landscaping would have a much greater effect than ignoring the upkeep of your yard for an entire month.
@lilli63

Your comment is good, but you have to realize that those perennials won't be up and producing until June/July. So the bees looking for early year food sources take advantage of the native plants and grasses to get them through until the perennials pop.
@AbcDef-iq4no
@AbcDef-iq4no 13 дней назад
@@pjd3028 That's just not accurate. I have a large clump of purple perennial salvia that has been in full bloom since the beginning of May. It measures three feet across and is 16 inches tall and is covered in blooms from early May through October. It is also covered with bees from dusk until dawn each and every day, as is a large clump of perennial pink penstimon that measures two feet across and is 14 inches tall. Also, in April of each year I plant numerous clumps of purple alyssum (an annual) that has been in full bloom since the beginning of May and will continue to bloom all through the summer and fall right up until it starts to frost. This alyssum is not only a favorite of bees but also hummingbird moths which flock to my yard each year. So due to all of my efforts I provide a feeding habitat for bees and moths not just during the month of May but throughout the entire growing season.

Great job Phil! I couldn’t help but notice that the neighbor next door was out with his blower (after you mowed), blowing the grass clippings back into his ‘messy’ neighbors yard. I can’t say that I blame him though. His yard was very nicely maintained. I wouldn’t want the weed seed to infiltrate my yard. Just sayin’. Thank you for all you do! God bless you.

I stopped the video and went out and did my yard with renewed determination. Now I am back resting with a cool ice tea and watching the rest of the video. How beautiful your yard is now........and mine too!! Thanks!!!😁 By the way, I subscribed too !! I am in green and grassy Teenessee. We have to mow and weed whack from May through October. . I like that clean neat look too and we have 4 acres of paradise to mow about every ten days. There are fields all around us and grassy woods for the bugs, butterflies, and moths. You should see how many robins in the Spring and crows in the summer come down to the lawns and look for worms after a mow!! Its a beautiful sight🙏

No Mow May is a bee conservation movement that encourages people to not mow their lawns in May to help pollinators. The idea is to allow wildflowers and weeds to bloom, along with longer grasses, to provide food and habitat for pollinators when other floral resources are scarce. These pollinators, in turn, are a food source for birds, bats, and other wildlife.
@desireejames1538

Ok but I don't think the county likes that to be done, they want it cut
@CarriUSA
@CarriUSA 13 дней назад
Except it’s not true. If you mean dandelions…that’s about it. Wild flowers are not grown in over grown grasses and butterflies and bees do not feed on grass seed tops. Now a hub for mosquitos, mice, ticks ( lymes disease), gnats, And their larvae, and other insects that are going to destroy your gardens and grass ……right🙄 FYI birds and bats don’t eat bees!

I would get FINED if I let my grass get over 6 - 8 " tall.....As a widow on fixed income I cannot cut my grass anymore ( my neighbor cuts it for me free of charge ) as I have knee , hip and back issues like i used to do all of my own yard walking and pushing my mower , weed wacking and trimming since i was married at age 22....I live at the edge of a small town surrounded by Farmland and a Grainery.. We do No Mow May in a lot of communities in Ohio however with how little if any winter we had and warmer temperatures a few people mowed a handful of times as early as February this year. There's a huge differe😅nce between being lazy and a slob versus someone that is more conscious of pollinators that are dormant in the winter months and hibernate in leaves and other stuff. Great job on rediscovering the concrete paths and getting the yard back into shape!

I hadn't heard of No Mow May until last year. My neighbor told me it's about leaving the early blooming weeds and flowers for pollinators to get a jump start as early as possible. I mowed with my blades up higher just to even everything out. It left the clover, dandelions, and violets. They were happy, I was happy. As for this yard...it looks great! My favorite part is the edging. Sharp and clean.

After watching many of these lawn makeovers, I’ve come to decide my favorite part is the edging and cleaning the gutters❤ It’s amazing how many people don’t do that on their home. It just frames the whole yard and you do an amazing job of edging❤❤ Yard looks Awesome ❤❤❤

Never heard of no mow May. Those of you who haven't subscribed your missing out. This young man leaves no blade of grass ungroomed. He does an amazing job. The parents of this young man did a very good job raising him. His videos prove all I've said.

I’ve never heard of “No mow May” either. You did a great job with what you had to mow around. This homeowner just doesn’t take care of his property, the junk he had all around. I agree there are many homeowners who would appreciate having someone help them with their lawn because of health issues or disabilities.

This was a cool video. I didn't realize you were doing ones about "a day in the life of" as I like to call them. I do have some questions: - For people who are looking to to buy a house and have never had to take care of a lawn before which tools would you recommend us getting at first. Would love to have an edger and hedge trimmers ans all, but should we just start with a mower and a weed trimmer? - How many passes do you need to go over the same section? I see you usually do at least 2. Is there a way to know? Thanks again for your videos!! Keep up the great work! 😊

I will never understand individuals who buy homes and purchase property *knowing full well* that they have no intention of maintaining it or upkeeping it. This may not sound very altruistic or charitable, but some of the home/property owners for whom you perform this lawn service truly don't deserve it. Excellent job (as always) @ #Fills..👏👏👏👏👏

Some owners only want a place for SSSS (shower, s**t, shave, sit and sleep) and a place for their pallets!!

Never heard of no mow may. I am 64 and ride my mower on an acre. As an older woman, I would never let it go that long. You do great clean up. (Ohio)
