Field sobriety tests aren't pass/fail. It's to try to gauge if a person is fit to drive. A good LEO gives multiple tests because it can serve as evidence in court. The more tests that are given the more evidence they have to support them arresting someone for being "under the influence." You'd be surprised how many times people get arrested and get charges dismissed for lack of evidence.

Withdrawl is a bitch. I'm in recovery and can say I myself and many other addicts would rather die than go through withdrawl. If you don't have funds for another batch, opiate withdrawl not being fatal is a lie. I vomited and was so sick the doctor at the ER who refused to help me transfer to a facility to detox per my personal request or provide such a resource was fired from 1 of the 2 largest health companies in the state because my Potassium and other values dropped so low from the symptoms that I was seizing and per the other ER doctors words " should have had a heart attack by now from the sudden stress on your heart ". I was 24 years old. This was last year. I asked for the doctor not to have her license revoked if she promised ME she would do better and would be offered education courses on this subject. I went from 350-400mg of Oxycodone laced with Fetanyl DAILY to nothing and almost died. So anyway, yeah, we would rather die than ditch our stuff. I worked in the medical field. My issue started when I had 5 surgeries in 2 years for a serious medical condition. I went to rehab last year and it changed so much for me personally. However, it's not an excuse to act like this or lie. Even high the cops used to be so shocked by how honest I was when I was in trouble that they would rather get me help than punish me. Be accountable. Be honest. Do the right thing.
@wombat5252
@wombat5252 2 года назад
@@alexisortiz952 Opiates can NOT kill you from withdrawels. Yeah if you're not eating then you're not getting the nutrients your body requires for functioning. Opiates do harm your liver but that's not a withdrawel. The only drugs that CAN kill you are alcohol and benzos. You can seize, have a stroke or heart attack directly caused by the withdrawel itself. Alcohol withdrawel is awful to. Nobody would want to live through it. It's brutal from any drug.

I hope this guy is able to stay clean and make a proper recovery and stay sober. It's obvious he's been through some sh*t in his life and is currently dealing with a functioning meth addiction. I speak from experience when I say that's a dark f*ckin place to be. You stop caring about everything, including self care. You lose weight at a ridiculous speed, and you refuse to eat inorder to prolong the high. You get to where you don't sleep. Ever. You don't "come down". You're constantly insanely dehydrated, no matter how much water you chug. You get to the point where you're unable to pull yourself away from sitting and repeating pointless tasks for hours on end. When you're using, your mind is going 500 mph and it's so easy to get your dopamine rush immediately turned into existential dread and used against you in a situation like this. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, and I sincerely hope he's able to face his demons and crawl out of the hole he's been in, even though this accident added about 6 ft. of topsoil on top. Something I learned as a recovering alcoholic, is that all those times I was so confident no one could tell- was usually when I was the most drunk. I was shown a video of myself when blackout drunk and I couldn't believe how I was acting. Not this bad thankfully, but it was sure eye-opening and I will forever be grateful to the friend who was brave and kind enough to show me how I was acting and who gave me a chance to change. It took a few tries and a lot of speedbumps, but I am going on 7 years sober now. I catch videos like this once in a while and I am grateful I was able to change. Reasoning was that police can't prove you were driving under the influence, you would argue that you were in shock after the accident and drank to calm yourself down. Never tried it, I'm not stupid to drink & drive (I want to live), but it might just work.

In the year 2006, in the state of Massachusetts, 3 men ranging in age from 18-21 were driving down I-95. they were high on opiates and they had been drinking. They were heading to their friends house to continue the partying.. The driver was speeding and driving recklessly cutting in and out of traffic. They lost control of their vehicle while driving approximately 120mph. The car spun into the back of a minivan carrying a mom, dad, and a 8 month old baby. The minivan was violently pushed into a guard rail, flipping over 3 times. EMT'S responded and did everything they could but the 8 month old baby was killed instantly, the dad would die 3 days later at the hospital, and the mom would spend 6 months in the hospital undergoing 11 surgeries and learning how to walk again... the drunk driver and his passengers would survive with nothing but a few scraps and bruises... the driver was later convicted of vehicular manslaughter but he would only end up serving 5 years before being paroled. Because of people like this I lost my husband and my baby. They were taken from me in the blink of an eye for absolutely no reason with no warning..John was an amazing husband and a dedicated father, and 8 month old Henry was the sweetest baby with endless potential! I woke up that morning as a wife and mother, I went to bed that night as a widow and the mother of a deceased child.. Driving under the influence has devastating consequences. I appreciate this officer for arresting this man and I hope and pray that he gets the help he needs before he kills himself or somebody else's husband and baby. DUI deaths are 100% preventable...

He aced them, man. And if he was counting “Mississippis” instead of “thousands,” then of course he’s going to go over the time a bit, because Mississippi has one extra syllable in it then the word “thousand,” so I consider that a pass too. The cop should actually clarify how he wanted the driver to count during that test, like he did for the one leg lift test (in that one, he demonstrated it, and told him to count outloud “one thousand, one thousand one, one thousand two, etc”). Also, I have _NEVER_ seen a cop do the eye test the way this one did, and I’ve watched _A LOT_ of these types of investigation videos! Wtf was that loopty-loop shite? Literally _EVERY OTHER COP_ only moves their finger or pen right and left and sometimes up and down also. I think the way he did it would make a sober person fail it.
@anti-ethniccleansing465
@anti-ethniccleansing465 2 года назад
@@wombat5252 I want to add something… If you do the research, DUI lawyers will also tell you to not do the one back at the station either if you think you may be over the limit (nor submit to the blood test). Make them get the warrant for it. Sometimes they won’t bother doing that. This is because there are a variety of ways that a decent lawyer can try to get your case tossed out completely (or prove that that was no RAS/probable cause/etc), so if they are successful with doing that, then you aren’t going to be hit with the automatic 10 or 12 month license suspension from refusing to do the test back at the station. You give your lawyers more to work with this way. Also... There are certain circumstances where doing FSTs can be helpful, so long as you don’t blow into the roadside breathalyzer. When I was in my late 20s, I got pulled over and they did the FSTs on me, because they could smell alcohol on my breath (no denying that). There’s no way to know for sure how I did with the eye pen test, but I strongly felt that I passed the FSTs with flying colors - that I wasn’t impaired to drive. I knew I was borderline though, so I refused to do the breathalyzer test, no matter how much they kept pressuring me to do it. I told them that I had heard how unreliable they are (which is true; they aren’t very accurate), so that is why I didn’t want to do it. I told them that if they really wanted to test my breath, they were going to have to take me in to do it. Because I refused that, and I did well with the FSTs, they didn’t have enough probable cause to arrest me/take me in. Very close call, but I made the right decision. These days though, even if they ask me to do FSTs when I am completely sober, I wouldn’t do them, because I am 46 years old now and underwent a terrible back fusion surgery awhile ago that left me in constant awful chronic pain. I don’t think I would be able to pass them now.

When you're so accustomed to never coming down, that you can't stop using without some sort physical intervention like this, it really shows how dependent on the drug you are, and just how much addiction controls your entire life. I pray that he's able to see, like I was, the impact that it's having on his life, and that with that he can stay sober and crawl out of this hole he just made 6 ft. deeper.

I remember driving through my neighborhood on my way to school. A school bus was entering, I was exiting. We were going in opposite directions. The bus driver failed to take into account that their yellow flashers didn't work. As I was passing, without warning the driver deployed their stop sign. She looked directly at me when she did it. My bag came flying from the backseat and smashed my face into the steering wheel, resulting in me getting a bloody face. I am still pissed off at that bus driver to this day. But there is no excuse for hitting a bus when you're drunk or distracted. If the driver is an idiot, and they make a move in which an accident cannot be avoided, that's not your fault necessarily. But if it is your fault, there's no excuse.

So- you're drunk or high and you run into a school bus while carrying a back pack full of various drugs. You manage to walk away- two miles away- but you fail to ditch the back pack? Kind of hard to feel sorry for someone that stupid. Well- considering he just hit a school bus with kids on it - I doubt I would have felt sorry for him regardless but, you get my point. I was an addict for years and I work as a counselor now- on a voluntary basis- I'll cut ppl tons of slack when it comes to addiction- but not when it involves children. Seeing the way the ppl around me talked about and treated their kids is what ultimately got me off drugs- had a pretty rough childhood myself- I can't tolerate mistreatment of children or irresponsible behavior that puts them at risk.
