I think Josh hit the nail on the head when he mentioned *genuine* shock about the counterfeits. I've seen genuine reactions of shock from people when they find out that their family bought garbage like that. I saw one guy break down and cry because his grandfather had bought this stuff as security and was trying to cash it in only to discover that is was all counterfeit. It's heartbreaking when you're the victim of it and it's disgusting when someone is trying to deceive a coin shop owner or anyone else for that matter

Josh should have called the authorities. This is a felony for fact they were trying to pass this onto someone else after being told they were fake.

For counterfeit US currency, such as ASE's, AGE's, anything that is being passed off as from the US mint or Federal Reserve, it must be reported to the Secret Service. The first step is to call the police.

The problem with that is the state will have the burden to prove that they knew it was not real and still trying to pass it off as real! It would prove difficult to do that unless they could find evidence that they either were making them or got a confession that they knew those were counterfeit. It's technically not illegal to own them because they can be labeled as "replicas"

No one said in the video that owners of the fakes were trying to pass these off onto someone else (other than me) as real. As far as I know, I was the first person they went to. Based on their lack of shock when I delivered the bad news, however, I feel that they possibly knew they had fakes. It’s not illegal to own counterfeit gold, silver, etc... It is illegal however to attempt to pass it off as real now that they know that it’s fake. That is why I contacted other dealers in my area to be on the lookout so if these individuals try again to sell these fake items, the authorities can be contacted.

The first thing I did when I started stacking silver was I bought a Sigma Pro mini with all three wands. I was at an estate sale that had a custom made western style belt made with about 30 very old silver eagles. They wanted $900 for it which was a great price for 30 eagles. I asked them if they minded if I test it. They said not at all. Every single eagle was fake. The people running the estate sale also owned a pawn shop. The daughter of the estate was there and I asked her about the belt. She said that was not her families and that the people running the sale asked if they could bring some stuff from their shop to try and sell and they would not charge the family the full price to run the estate sale. I told her that they are trying to sell fake eagles from their shop and showed her. I think she kicked them out.

Maybe. It could just be that they just had a hunch before, that these could be fake, but they didn't know for sure. Also 25K is a lot of money for most people, but really not all that much for some. Just imagine they also inherited some real estate from their grandfather, possibly beeing worth 800K, some stocks and his little gold/silver reserve for bad times worth around 25K. Now they check theim for magnatism and find out that some of it may be fake. They are however not professionals and have no professional equipment and are not sure. They now bring it to a coin shop to sell. The coin shop owner tells them that every single piece is fake. "Ah, that's a slight bummer". Would they really want 50 Dollar in exchange for their big stack of fake precious metals that their grandfather passed onto them? 50 Dollars is what, going out to eat twice? I am pretty sure, that I would keep it for myself in this scenario.

At the 1:30 mark in the video when you mention being excited about 2024 this song came to mind. "I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it I'm about to lose control and I think I like it"....LOL. Unfortunately, I don't have the same outlook for 2024. Yes premiums are down on the metals and that's always good to see but I believe it's going to get really nasty out there. Nearly three years of this current administrations policies and high inflation has taken it’s toll. Americans are struggling and I'm afraid it's going to get much worse before it gets better. God Help Us! Big thank to you Silver Seeker and Josh for pointing out the fakes. Oh Yeah, your comments at the end of the video were spot on. Life is good. Merry Christmas and God Bless

When I started stacking around 18 months ago I confined myself to the silver Britannia (with it's 4 security features) and a reputable dealer. Now I branch out and would buy silver bars and coins and a little gold, but again mostly from dealers. I would never buy anything encased n plastic especially gold, because I don't have a Sigma tester (which would probably cost over 2k taking shipping and import fees into account). I know I'm a relative novice, but here's how I protect myself. 1. I never buy anything encased in plastic. 2. I don't buy gold bars, only coins. 3. I research what I'm buying, what it should weigh, it's diameter/thickness and if it has security features? 4. If buying privately I always bring a calipers and small scales and have details of 3 above written down. 5. Bring a 'pinger' if you have one (I use a cooking thongs with silicone teeth and a pencil) 6. And finally, I stick by the old adage "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"!😉

I have been saving receipts for every purchase since i started stacking. The pile us 5" thick when compressed between rubber bands. 95% of the stack is from the major retailers and the rest from local shops and coin shows. I know this won't prove anything at sell time, but hopefully it will make the buyers slightly more comfortable with me.

I guess the only remedy is to purchase from known reputable dealers. I've looked at the Sigma metalytics but the price is more than I am currently prepared to pay. There is a "ping tester" which determines fake vs non fake by the ping the coin makes when struck lightly with a wood stick they provide. I have tested it and it does appear to be useful.

I was aware of those assay gold bars. Never seen one in person but have seen them being sold online. I recall the Perth and I want to say there was Valcambi too. Do you think Costco tests their gold bars that have been a hot commodity? That would be a big deal if they were letting fakes through because so many people bought from them. It could easily turn a lot of people away from stacking. I'm sure CNBC would be salivating at running a headline about fake gold being sold at Costco seeing as how they'll do anything to turn people away from gold and silver and towards Bitcoin and stocks.

I invested in a Sigma Pro Mini when I committed a significant amount to stacking. I checked my gold, even though it all came from one of the larger companies that has a good reputation. I also checked all my silver, most of which was 90%, and most from eBay. I was a little nervous until the Sigma showed that none of it was fake. I tell everyone I know that I have the Sigma and that I could test their precious metals. I have detected only one fake, a Franklin half that was purchased at a flea market.

Premiums may be down, but even a dollar twenty five over spot for a round is still a very high percentage. Especially when spot is this high on top of that? I think it makes more sense to look in other places to invest your money that can potentially grow your wealth that you can buy more silver when it dips.

Bars and rounds are the most dangerous (due to counterfeiting) and least likely forms of value preservation in precious metals. I buy only and sell only PCGS and NGC graded and slabbed coins. I use the online certification service that is freely offered by both services to verify graded coins that I buy. When the flood of silver and gold bar and round sellers emerge on a serious uptick in precious metals dealers will not be able to find enough cash to buy all the stuff that comes into their shops.

Theft by deception is a crime, should have gotten the plate number off the car and called the police...

He should of asked the sellers if he could drill a couple of the fake bars, to check them.

Oh they knew it was fake. If I were a betting man, I’d bet my stack they knew. The old Grandpa story is older than Grandpa. Lol. I wouldn’t purchase any gold that wasn’t at least sigma tested, along with weight, thickness, etc.

These acts should be videod, including the persons themselves, then the footage, at least, handed over to the police! Given the state of the Police, throughout the Western World, in this day & age, they would probably have just ignored it. But that is no one's fault; except the Police,& your Government; which is another issue. Also, having their voice stating they were looking to sell, would constitute an alleged crime in progress. Josh did try hard to get their ID, so kudos to him, for the honest attempt. Whilst they sounded like real amateurs; they weren't stupid, in handing over their IDs. Though, if the cops were being diligent, & did have them on record, then the photo imagery could have lead to a prosecution. In New Zealand, it is Law to have to produce ID at any mint/professional metals' seller (like a pawn shop). We don't have LCSs. A pain, for tax, & Government oversight; but that's another matter. NO ONE doing anything, to try & stop it, just causes an exponential exacerbation of the problem, with the more honest eventually trying it (which these may have been). Which leads to it becoming endemic, right across modern society! Just like with any crime. Then, the next stage would involve physical harm. Anyone who doesn't agree with this position, of criminality, don't ever complain, if YOU get ripped off; or worse, by any scam/thief, etc., in the future. Ask anyone who has had property stolen, they WILL most likely have a very different stance. AND, there is NO difference between passing off counterfeit goods, & physically stealing another's property. Anyone who doesn't have either the experience, or the testing, should ALWAYS buy from reputable people, as Josh stated. Honest people are just plain dumb. 🤨

I bought 8 eagles a few months ago from a guy at $27/oz. Afterwards, i had this weird feeling. I took them to my local coin shop a few days later and found out they were fakes. Fortunately, the guy did the transaction at his home, and he refunded me. I'll only purchase from a repretiable coin shop! If i would have meet him at a walmart or something I'd of been out of a few hundred bucks.
