Man who died jumping US 40 remembered as daring skier

A skier who died trying to jump Berthoud Pass in Colorado has been identified as Dallas LeBeau, 21, of Gilpin County. FOX31's Greg Nieto hears from a childhood friend, who said LeBeau had the same birthday as Evil Knievel.

Dallas LeBeau, he Loved the snow. Thought he'd jump 40, but he did not know that the path is too wide and he was going too slow. He won’t be doing that any moe!! RIP

Ah, yes, the age old concept of "risk and reward". What is the risk of the activity you're undertaking versus the reward you gain upon success? What would be the reward in something like this? We can see what he risked and paid for in his attempt to reach this reward. The question is, is that reward, worth what this man paid in risk? It's a clear answer. It's not even close. The risk far outweighs the reward of, "Yeah bro. I totally jumped the highway maaan."

Such a waste. Too bad his friends didn't know beforehand and talk to him out of it. Even old Evel knievel, who was not that bright, understood safety equipment and physics, and he died an old man. I suppose it is a rather remarkable way of going out. By the way, on average, 100 people also died today on the highway.

We know he didn't clear the road, and we can assume his jump put him very high up in the air, so I would guess he hit the pavement from a height of some 30-40 feet, possibly more, and probably at a high velocity too. The force of the landing likely resulted in multiple broken bones, injuries to internal organs and a massive head injury, any or all of which could have killed him instantly. I'm speculating here, but it's easy to understand how this can be fatal.

A fun life can also be a long life. I personally wouldn't equate a life that ended at 21 as a "fun" one; rather a 'tragic' one. Most of the fun I lived happened after the age of 30....and now I can look back at those fun days with fond memories as well. For you to assume anyone over the age of 21 is a 'zombie' is quite disturbing. I don't think it's funny & truly feel sorry for you if that's what you think....
