When you look at his facial expression, you'll find that he wasn't delivering the blows out of malice, he was just doing what was necessary. I noticed that and felt it was odd. I believe that gentleman was actually trying to diffuse the situation as neutrally as possible. His action was actually helping the clerks not get in trouble.
