My father has Alzheimer's. His brother lives on the other side of the country and therefore they haven't seen each other in over a year. His brother came to visit. We didn't know if my father would be able to remember him or not...

Painting To Remember my grandfather has Alzheimer's and his face always lights up when he sees me. But today he told me to get out or he was calling the police I tried to explain to him it was me but he wouldn't listen. Then he said Ann come here Ann was my grandmother who died two years later. He then broke down crying and started to say sorry a number of times to me.

No time For B.S Unfortunately Alzheimer's which is a terminal disease still has no real treatments or cures :(
@PaintingToRemember

Maelox Gaming I'm sorry that both you and your grandfather are forced to deal with Alzheimer's/dementia. It is such a brutality difficult disease. He doesn't mean to forget who you are at times, it's the disease destroying parts of his brain causing that to happen. From what you're describing he is also aware of his own confusion which makes it very uncomfortable for him as well. My dad went through this alsol. I stopped trying to convince him of who I was as it didn't help him feel better. All you can do is stay patient and understanding. I do believe that long after the disease robs their brain of the memory of who we are their soul still knows us! Sending you both hugs filled with comfort and strength while you travel this difficult journey.

my grandma always was like "oh how big you've gotten" never figured out if she meant that I was now in my 30s or if I just gotten fat (: she kinda remembered up to about mid 80s so she knew my name but not my brother who wasn't born yet, and she forgot that her husband was long dead.

My grandmother has dementia. I’m only 14, so she forgets me sometimes, but just thinking about her and all the good times we had make me sad. She has had dementia all throughout my life, but when I was born she was at least aware of it. Now, she can hardly remember my mother. She always says that, to her, her mother is already dead, and that is just so terrible. You shouldn’t have to watch your own mother die twice.

My Grandmother passed away nearly 20 years ago from Alzheimer’s. In her final week I was the only person she remembered. I still think back to the last time I saw her and the nurse asked her, “You have a visitor! Do you know who she is?” And after a few moments my Grandmother said, “Yes. I know her. That’s my granddaughter Kristina.” I will never forget that day. She passed away four days later. I love my Grandmother so much. She practically raised me and I miss her every day. Thank you for sharing this special time with all of us.

My Grandad had alzheimers in the end. Dreadful to watch the decline, yet the very last visit - we were forced by the circumstances to have him cared for - he had a moment of clarity that I will cherish forever, but thats not to share here. I wish I had video of that last meeting. He died a few days later. What a top old bloke he was to me.
