I had a lot of fun in Chula Vista (a City near where I live) watching Korn fans on either side of me who thought that BABYMETAL was going to be a mellow opening group based on their name. The look of shock when they kicked off with this song was really something to see. : )
Babymetal death is one of those songs that most people can give or take, untill you see it live for yourself. It used to be the opening song for a lot of Babymetal show, esp outside of Japan. So when you have a pumped up crowd and Death hammering out makes a great start to a gig and prople that disliked the song start to like it.
As soon as I saw the video up and read the title, I was like "oooooh it's gonna be FUN!" :D [edit after watching the whole thing] A few points of interest regarding this video: - the very performance you watched was kind of a birthday party for Su-Metal's 16th birthday (sick, eh?) - the song is an opening track for their first album; it's kind of long intro. What they say throughout is "I am Su-metal" "I am Yui-metal" "I am Moa-metal" "We are Babymetal" in Japanese. This one is longer because they stretched the middle part to accomodate the crucifiction theatrics. - this whole crucifiction is symbolic death of old Su-metal, only to be reborn as new Su-metal (so, 15 years old Su is dead, 16 years old Su begins). - Virgin Mary statue crumbling at the end is both the part of death-rebirth thing and also a tribute to Metallica'a AJFA-era stage decoration (Themis statue crumbling during AJFA). - neckbrace is a thing in "Babymetal lore" - it's possessed and anyone wearing one becomes headbanging metalhead (see "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" official video for it). - since you mentioned Mikio (the late guitar player) I have to suggest once more you react to "Starlight" - BM's latest song dedicated to him. as someone probably already said, the song is titled BABYMETAL DEATH and it’s an opening track on their debut self-titled album. it’s a word play on japanese word ‘desu’, which is basically a verb to be: ‘Su-Metaru desu’ - ‘My name is Su-Metal’. ‘BEBIMETARU desu’ - ‘We are BABYMETAL’.
The AVA MARIA cut is awesome ... The Little KAMI GOD died in January. Mikio Fujikoa... You almost have to see the concerts from beginning to end to understand that the band has a narrative. There is are cut scenes and shorts between songs explaining BabyMetal Red and Babymetal Black. The Fox God has called them to bring the world together as "ONE" through metal ..
It's okay if you didn't like the song "that much". This is less of a song than it is a performance piece with minimal vocals, heavy instrumentals and a kickass stage show. As has been mentioned by others already, Babymetal Death was usually played at the start of the show to fire up the crowd. For this show it was actually the closing number. This was performed on her 16th birthday and it was meant to represent the 'death' of Sumetals childhood and her rebirth as the heavy metal queen she was to become. Thanks for another great reaction. Mana, in Sakura Gakuin girls can start as early as elementary school and they graduate out of Sakura Gakuin at the end of Middle School. When SuMetal was graduating out of Sakura Gakuin I don’t believe anyone told little Moa that BabyMetal was about to International. Little Moa has a very emotional speech for SuMetal and you can tell all of the Sakura Gakuin girls have a love for SuMetal. The neck brace was a throwback to the neck brace in the Megitsuna music video, which was, as bmsssssss pointed out, a tribute to X Japan's drummer who head banged so hard during one performance that he injured his neck and ended up having to wear a neck brace during subsequent performances.
Babymetal Death initially was an introduction of the girls, and usually the opening anthem to their shows. Yuimetal liked this song as the opener to loosen and limber up her body in preparation for the physically intense choreography. Maybe the staff thought too many "DEATH"s are inappropriate. The Japanese word "desu" (??) is a copula (= to be). The Eastern Japanese almost drop "u" of this word, so the word "desu/des" sounds like "death". And someone started writing "DEATH" instead of "??" (desu). It makes sense only where the Japanese word "desu" is expected to come. The title "BABYMETAL DEATH" means only "We are BABYMETAL." No relation to the death itself. I'm not sure of its origin, but I saw long before such a character as a vampire or a death metal singer in a comic and all his "??" (desu) were replaced with "DEATH" to emphasize his character. Mana, I keep hinting around about the BabyMetal girls in Sakura Gakuin. Here is maybe a more J-Pop type song with the full Sakura Gakuin Unit. You can see Suzuka/SuMetal easy enough she basically has her signature hair style with a small blue bow. Little Moa and Yui hold hands for a second until two girls separate them. Baby Metal Death: desu, which is pronounced like 'death' (des, or de su) is another play on 'words'. Babymetal death Sue-Metal death Yui-Metal death Moa-Metal death Which is basically just saying "My name is ________" (Sue-Metal death = My name is Sue-Matal.) I agree though, this is a song that I can take or leave, but real metal-heads (I'm old, in my 60's. and 'metal' to me is Johnny Cash 'Devil Comes Back to Georgia, so it's not my favorite either! :-) ) seem to like it a lot, so I am going to appreciate the hell out of their ability to cut cross genres, ages, genders, languages, countries, and stupid differences, and give us something special in our lifetimes.
One thing I noticed when posting Dailymotion links in RU-vid comments: For some reason, RU-vid links work fine when they are followed by a full stop, but with dailymotion links, RU-vid tends to interpret the full stop as a part of the link, which results in an invalid link. Making sure to have a space after the link does the trick. So, if you run into problems with DM links, perhaps check if there is a character at the end of the link that's not supposed to be part of it.
