Nancy answers a RU-vid viewer's question in this Ask Nancy. Ellen in the Netherlands asks, "How do you fit all of the quilt in the machine for quilting?"
Various sewing machines have different sized throats. If your quilt is really large, you might want to consider asking someone with a long arm sewing machine to finish your quilt. Nancy's quilt is around 90 inches long. She slides it under sewing foot and needle and continues pulling more of the quilt into the throat of her sewing machine until she gets to the place she would like to start free motion quilting. She likes to use some sort of gloves or LicketyGrip (a type of lotion to help grip your quilt). For the large sized quilts, she likes to use gloves. Let us know if this video helps you with your free motion quilting. Post your question below and Nancy may answer it in her next Ask Nancy. Thank you so much for watching! Nancy when you are sewing on this machine for regular stitching what foot do you use. is it the quilting 1/4 in or something else

Hi Penny, I would recommend you look back at some of our earlier episodes where I show you how i like to use a "regular" foot and move my needle to the right so that from the edge of the foot to my needle is a scant 1/4". The reason I like that is that many (not all, but many) of the 1/4" feet on the market are not a scant 1/4", and when I you are actually using a 1/4" foot, not all the feet dogs on your machine are in use so sometimes it doesn't feed through as well. So - that is my opinion on the matter - hope it helps :)

They sell those quilting hoops would that be a good idea?

Hi Donna, they are not for me but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try them. If you saw them at a quilt show or a shop that might help you decide. Nancy

I turn my machine so the head of the machine faces my chest. T
