Just found this tutorial. Fabulous. I have many tops to get quilted and I wanted to learn to do them myself. I'm 68 and feel that this old dog has been taught a new trick. Thank you.

Great video. You have answered so many of my questions on handling the quilt using the rulers. Thank you so much!

Thank You! I dread using rulers on large quilts - I will certainly incorporate quilt-as-you-go into any projects I can. LOVE watching how you manage the volume of material - seeing someone do this is so helpful.

Thank you so much for this. I know that I’m seeing this well after the original posting but I have found this so helpful as I try to figure out how to manage quilting a large quilt that I have pieced on my domestic machine. I appreciate your approach to the task since I have had struggles with managing the volume of fabric on smaller quilts.

Thank you soooo much! Finally someone show a large quilt! Letting go of the urge to "do it all at once". Watching you sloooowly do one square at a time!

Thank you for showing how to do a large quilt, as opposed to your smaller piece demonstrations! I’ve been waiting for this. I hope to see even more!

Thank you for taking the time to show how to do this. I treated myself recently to a new domestic machine with a 12" throat and have done my first quilt on it. The extra space certainly makes a huge difference. Another important thing to remember is that you are not going to get this job done in an afternoon. I tended to do a bit, have a break then return to the quilt. It worked for me!

Wow! I am new to quilting and have done one quilt by had and three using the machine. The last one took so long to do free style quilting, I think I will try these templates as they appear so effective. I thing that it looked so easy as this was the calmness of the lady and her demonstration was good.

I’m a new beginner of quilting, and and I bought me a new brother sewing machine, even my hubby is helping me on some of the quilting, measurements, cutting. Can’t seem to have enough room to barely work with a semi-small quilter for spreads on my dressers. What a chore. There so much to learn in quilting. This is great to seen and learn new ways of how to handle the material.

Great beginner tutorial! I just figured out one of the best ways to help the quilt from constantly sliding down in front on my lap and getting 'stuck so much. I have two tiny end tables (that are actually meant as drawer units under my sewing desk) that I pull up close beside me on either side of my chair and let the quilt rest on that. I also use that non-slide stuff that's use under vases, lamps, in other words, anything you don't want to slide off of a flat surface on top of the two little tables so the quilt doesn't slide off. These two things keep the quilt up and 'fluffy'. I hope this helps someone out there.

I sewed the sides down on my quilt. Can I still free motion quilt on it ? I want it have the typical quilt look to it and I want my fabric to be held down in the middle too. Did I mess up ?

I find square quilts more difficult than rectangular quilts. You begin in the center and work your way out and once the center is completed the edges are easier because there’s less bulk under the throat space.

I would prefer you do this on a smaller throated machine. Using your large throat machine doesn’t look that difficult at all.

I'm not sure if I could use these rulers with my Singer Patchwork Machine, the throat is only about 5". Newbie when I bought my machine 18 months ago :(
@TheMinot60
@TheMinot60 5 лет назад
nana31331 yes you can. Start out with smaller pieces like wall hangings, crib quilts. As you gain confidence, move on up.
@chevydude658

This is in no way a fair comparison. The Innovis has a VERY large throat space! they're much larger than a regular run of the mill machine with a throat space of 8 or 9 inches! But, then again, I might just be mad because I don't have this machine. Just maybe I said!
