I am now 10 days post op and four nights into taping my nose and I honestly see a tremendous change in my nose and how I wanted it to look like! thank you so so much!! I was really worried that I might look like a dinosaur at first but now I’m slowly seeing my nose change into my dream nose ❤️
My surgeon told me to wear tape for 6 months 24/7. I can't wear it 24/7 because I have to go to work and I don't want to look like a freak but yeah it just shows how important it is to tape all the time
Thank you so much for these tips. Im 2.5 weeks post op and have been struggling immensely with swelling and post op blues. How soon can I start these exercises? Is it okay to start now? I read that I should wait 4 weeks. Also how many months do you recommend doing these exercises for?
My patients start as soon as the splint is removed. They perform the exercises for 2 months until the nasal bones have solidified and 80% of the global swelling is gone.
doctor i need your help im 2 months and 3 weeks post op and and my nose is swollen and the tip is super high and it looks like a pig nose 🐽 what can i doo im super sad
Hi , I had my septo_rhinoplasty 1.5 month before for dorsal hump removal and deviation correction . Now I’m feeling my nose tip is tilted to right side and one side of my nose looks more swollen then the other . What’s the reason ? Will it cure ? I’m really worried . My nose looks so weird 😢
This is normal. Decrease your salt and alcohol intake. Try taping and massage. The right and left sides of the face drain swelling differently and this is why everyone sees a small amount of asymmetry. Our lifestyle can make it worse. Follow my suggestions in the video with the permission of your surgeon.
I just got my cast removed. I’m 9 days post op! And I feel hideous. My nose is like a potato now. :( also when he removed my cast I still had a slight bump on the bridge :/ should I be worried. He explained my skin is very thin and there was a lot of swelling still. Also he showed me my after picture while I was under and there was no bump. So I hope it goes down 🤞🏼
You are very early after surgery. The slight hump is swelling under old hump skin. That skin needs to shrink wrap. If your surgeon is ok with, use my bridge taping regimen I show in the video to manage that skin and get it to lay down nicely. In ethnic noses, swelling can be quite excessive so be focused. Increase your protein intake and cut out salty foods/alcohol. Ice down after exercise or sex. These little hacks will help control the shape of the nose more effectively than just waiting for the skin to de-swell. The bridge will de-swell in 2-3 months and the tip in one year, so be patient.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery wow thank you so much! And for the quick reply! I will ask about your taping method! And I am icing away! My tip was actually nice prior to surgery. Just had a skinny nose with a hump. He gave me a slight slope and made my tip slightly smaller to match my new nose! I’m seeing improvement it’s just the bump that is slightly there! I hope it will all start to come together and I will try not took obsess over it!
Can cleaning the inside and outside of your nose with an earbud or your finger nail cause damage like 1 week post op (just after all packing, splints and cast is removed)?
It really depends on how aggressive you are. Gently cleaning with moist Qtips is the safest way to go in my opinion. Too much pressure placed on the nose this early might shift the soft nasal bones into the wrong position. That's why my patients aren't allowed to blow their noses for 1 month after surgery. They can wash with bottled saline or use a Neti pot for cleaning gently.
Hi I have a question, I was very impressed with my result after the splint was removed at day 7, nose was nice and straight with a refined tip, but now despite strictly following after care instructions, at 3 weeks I can see the middle of my nose start to grow a slight hump like the one I used to have pre rhinoplasty, and im worried as Im not sure if this is the actual bone thats swelling or cartilage, id appreciate if you could respond when you have a chance thanks!
If your surgeon is ok with it, I would recommend secure taping of this area at night to shift it into a more straight and flat position. During the day, the tongue depressors can be used to iron out/squeeze out swelling in the cartilage and skin.
Thanks for this video Dr Shah! After an open rhino, on average, how many weeks does it take : - for a patient to get their sensation and movement of the upper lip back? - for the nose tip settle down from being excessively upturned after rhino?
Yasmine Tete take a break from the tape to let your skin heal. Once the skin is healed you can try medical paper tape. But if you have a tape allergy, then skip the taping portion and just use the massage.
I know this is gross but you might want to take a pair of tweezers and pull the boogers out. My surgeon did this for me since I wasn’t blowing my nose (you’re not supposed to) and they were all stuck up there making it hard to breath
I’m on day 11 feeling very sad because it looks BIG. My side profile is good but from the front it looks worse than before, I know it’s swollen but my brain keeps thinking the worst!!
I'm 5 months post OP, I understand every word you wrote. After the first/second month everything will be better, just be patient. My nose keeps changing everyday.
I have very thick, oily skin and my surgeon reduced my nose size by a large margin. I'm at about the 4 month mark and it's bumming me out because every other week it swells up. It will start to go way down, and when it goes down it looks beautiful. Straight and small. Then I'll make the mistake of taking a couple shots of alcohol and hitting the gym, thinking maybe I'm past the point where it will keep swelling. Then, just like clockwork the supratip and tip swells up the next day and stays that way for a week. Then it goes down again. I understand at this point I'm pretty much just waiting for the skin to shrink and fit my nose. It's just driving me crazy because I feel like I can't live my life while I'm waiting for the nose to settle. I'm always worried if I touch it the wrong way or raise my blood pressure that it will swell up and never come down. Am I just being paranoid? Will there be a time that this swelling will stop and the nose will shrink for good?
Hi. Be patient. What you are experiencing is very common in oily noses. A little trick I use for my patients with oily skin is the application of OTC hydrogen peroxide on the T-zone of the face at night to kill the bacteria in the pores and reduce the oil output. It works wonders. You should go ahead and live your life without worry. On the days that you know you've eaten things or done things that will swell your nose, perform the massage and tape overnight to hold off the swelling so you don't find yourself fretting for a week. As long as your skin doesn't get irritated from the paper tape, you should do fine. This combination of actions should give you incredible peace of mind when followed intelligently. Good luck.
I just had rhinoplasty literally a week ago and I was so excited at the cast removal but I started crying cause I feel like my nose looks exactly like it did before. It's not as crooked as it was maybe, but I can still see a little bump on it, and it's DEFINITELY not straight like I wanted it to be. The nurse said this is just due to swelling, and once the swelling goes down the bridge will be straight. I don't know what to believe. I'm confused, depressed, and mad cause I feel like I paid a lot of money for nothing. Has any of you gone through something similar? Will my nose look better once the swelling is gone?
Valentina Ferrari she’s right mine looked huge bigger than what it was and i was depressed af, keep the bandages on it help with the swelling you’ll see the final result after 3 months
I just took off my cast yesterday snd the only problem I have is that I can’t close my right eye fully. There’s like a tiny slit open and it sucks. Im pretty sure its not normal, is it because my face is still kinda swollen? Can you close both your eyes?
Ya where my nasal bone is by my septum, the skin is like really far away from the bone, not sure if its swelling but its freaking me out cuz it's just on 1 side
i had surgery a week ago. i am disappointed as I asked for a smaller tip amongst other things but it still looks the same... could it be swelling? the rest of my nose hardly seems swollen
I'm 20 days now after my rhinoplasty, I'm a little bit worried because there's a line vertical line appearing in the upper bridge . It's like a wrinkle. 😢😢😢. As days goes it becomes more obvious. Will it go away? Hohoho. Thank you
I am 2 months post op and i still wake up every morning swollen. I need to say that i have thick skin and also after rhinoseptoplasty my skin became sooo oily. I am so worried that i ll be forever swollen😢 it s such a difficult process.
Your nose will swell and deswell cyclically over the next 10 months before everything settles down. If you have thick skin some options might include: 1. topical Retin-A cream on the nasal skin or 2. low dose oral Accutane. It can help thin out the skin and reduce the oilyness. Those with thick, oily skin will have swelling the longest.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery Thank you so, so, so much!!! Thanks from my heart! I admire all the surgeons who make time to respond to everyone's concern!! Sometimes even some small words and encouraging does so MUCH! I've been told that thick skin takes longer to settle down but until you don't see it on your own skin you cannot actually believe it. Also all this "dents" that we gently feel under skin after the bones have been broken will they settle down in time? I mean you can feel them, not see them as much. Thanks again for the reply! With all respect to you DOCTOR🙏
@@jammiejo185 you are welcome. The edges of the nasal fractures may always be palpable. You just want them to not be visible. It takes some getting used to. If you can't ignore the feeling of the edge, it can be adjusted in a year under local anesthesia.
I’m nearly 4 months in an I’m so swollen still , I get headaches all the time an inside my nose is all swollen an red , I’ve been to see the surgeon and he said it looks fine but now I have these small bumps along the middle of my nose an it sticks out an also a small bump on the side of my nostril that looks awful , he said it will go in a few months an that it’s either scar tissue or pockets of air because of the swelling and my nose is still very stiff , I’m not happy with my nose at all an it’s really worrying me that I’m stuck like this esp with the bumps to i feel like he’s not telling me the whole truth an says things to get rid of me , I have a hump on my nose an at first it had completely gone but not with the bump I’ve now got it looks like I’m getting it back again 😫
@@kellylovejoy2169 you really shouldn't be all that swollen at 4 months. The tip area definitely could be swollen, but the bridge shouldn't be. Full rhinoplasty recovery takes one year. You are welcome to email me your photos to give you some guidance if you'd like. Photos from the front, both sides, and a bottom view to see your nostrils are really helpful. Email them to info@drmanishshah.com
hello im 5 months post op i have formed like this small bump on the left side of my bridge but when i tape it looks like its gone over the tape but when i take off the tape this bump is still there ..whats the reason for this?
You are thinning the skin a bit. Try a little topical 1% hydrocortisone cream to see if you can get the bump to go away. Try it for one week. If no luck, then stop.
I am 4 weeks post op and have developed a small hump on my bridge. My Dr didn’t advise me to massage at this point. I will see him at 6 weeks. What is this and Will this go away in its own
It's hard to know. Just wait until your surgeon says it's ok. Or ask about nighttime taping at least. At four weeks your nose is solid enough to tolerate that. That being said, I don't know what you had done, so I'd be conservative.
@@niamhjohnson7902 yeah me too i got mine off yesterday, the bump makes my profile look straight rather than a how its supposed to be...what did your doctor say
I am now 9 days post op, my tip is little bit above. It looks like a Pig Nose. My doctor is telling, this is not your final results. It will take upto 1 year for your final results. And there was lack of communication between us, since english is not his first language. I'm actually broken and depressed. My question is will the piggy nose go away, if yes how long should I have to wait? Is there anything I should follow to bring the tip down?
Hi. The tip does drop with time. It can take a while though. If patients are worried. After they are 1 month postop, they can try a dose of oral steroids to decrease swelling. Taping helps decrease the water in the tip (edema). Reduce your salt intake. And give yourself time to heal.
Thank you for this great video. I had an open rhino plasty and loved my results until after going to the gym my nose swelled up significantly. That happend 5 months ago but my nose hasnt really gone back down to how it looked. my doctor said i should massage which I am doing but like you said in your video I still wake up with a swollen nose. I am black and have thick skin. would taping still work for me at this stage. I had my surgery 7 months ago.
Hi. Swelling can last up to a year. If you have thick oily skin, you may benefit from topical Retin-A cream to reduce oil production. This can thin out the skin a bit. Another option is the use of low dose Accutane. Occasion you might benefit from steroid injections. Speak with your surgeon about these options. Good luck.
My patients wait about 2-3 months before reinserting the nose ring to avoid infecting the nasal tip. I would ask your surgeon for their guidance since they know the technical details of your procedure.
Depending on the patient, I perform the following procedures in office under local anesthesia: facelifts, browlifts, tip rhinoplasty, ear pinning, cheek implants, chin implants, lip implants, buccal fat pad excision, facial fat transfer, small areas of liposuction (face and body), breast lifts, mini tummy tucks, and reverse tummy tucks. All patients use Valium and Pronox as well to bring comfort during the numbing injection process. It is incredibly well-tolerated and most patients tell me that the average pain score for the procedure is between 2-4 total for the whole procedure.
Great tips!! How soon can I start these exercises after my rhinoplasty?! My doctor told me to just stick with the sides for the first two weeks then the tip on the 3rd
Hey guys i got a nose job last year on December 18th. It’s already been a year and i love my nose. But now i can only breathe out my left nostril. I can breathe out my right, but then i can’t breathe out my left. I can breathe through both nostrils, but one nostril takes less air than the other. But then it switches, to being where my right takes more air but my left nostril takes less. I asked my surgeon and he said it’s the nasal cycle, but i could’ve sworn before my nose job i could breathe out through both. Anyone else going through the same thing? Doesn’t bother me tho, till late at night where i put my attention on it. I never notice it throughout my day Edit: Can i email you to take a quick look at the inside of my nostrils? The right one looks more closed than the left one. I don’t know if that’s because of the nasal cycle. I’ll check again when my right nostril takes more air in.
@Sidvicius11 Yea still happening to me. Sometimes one of my nostrils is completely blocked and can only breathe out the other ( Dont notice it btw ) unless i block my nostril and see.
@Sidvicius11 Ask your surgeon, mine told me it was the nasal cycle and i was just like “okayy…” don’t know if he messed up or what lol But when i go running it doesn’t bother me or lift weights
@@Blue-bi3pz i’m 1 month post op and have this problem, but it doesn’t switch i just can breath through one better than the other and trust me this is not normal! You shouldn’t feel the difference and if you feel the difference there is something wrong. I told it to be doctor and he told me to wait 1 month more and than we will see what we can do about it because he told me its probably the uneven swelling and crust
@@minara2506 Can you come back in 1 month and tell me what he says? I stopped going to my surgeon when i had to meet him 3 more times. I don’t know why i stopped but when i did go he said it was healing fine i had no issues other than breathing more out the left than the right But i remember i asked him about it again when i went back and he said it was just the nasal cycle. Which idk
Hi I had one year ago the rhinoplasty. Everything was oke . I feel now there is a soft tissue and my gp told me aswell . So is this now helpful to do it. I didn’t had in the beginning tape or any massage
It might not be helpful at this point. A steroid injection might be a better idea, but I would recommend that you see your surgeon to see if they think it is a good idea at this point. Good luck!
Dr. Shah what should I do if my nose swells up after the gym I went back for the first time today and now it’s throbbing and kind of swollen I am two days shy of two weeks since my surgery
the itching is literally keeping me up at night right now, I don't even care that my nose is still stuffed and I can't breath I just want the itching to stop! taking the cast off tomorrow
Hello Doctor. My nose actually was more swollen the second week than the first when I got my cast removed. Is this normal? Will the swelling go down eventually? My nurse said It’s normal but I’m really worried.
Yes. It is normal. The cast squeezes out the excess swelling. Without the cast your nose will swell and shrink in a cyclical fashion. You will lose 80% of the swelling in the first 2-3 months after surgery and over 97% of the swelling will be gone after 1 year. Be patient :)
Hello. You are welcome. Subscribe to my channel and find me on Realself.com to see my rhinoplasty discussions. My patients go back to the gym for cardio at 2 weeks postop and then start weight lifting at 4 weeks after surgery. Exercise will increase swelling so I recommend icing after exercise. Good luck!
There are only a few reasons why you might have a bump after your rhinoplasty: 1. not enough hump was removed, 2. you are developing a periosteal reaction in the bone and it is swelling, 3. there is a small particle of bone/cartilage that got left behind, 4. your surgeon placed a cartilage graft and it is now showing, and/or 5. you are just seeing swelling of the skin as a bump. Depending on where you are in your recovery since your nose surgery each cause has a specific remedy. I would recommend that you speak with your surgeon. Often touch-up procedures are quite simple. If you have any questions, you can email me your current photos to info@drmanishshah.com and I can maybe give a little more guidance.
Monika Platt do you still have a bump? I just got my cast off today and I’m experiencing the same thing.. my doctor did warn me though that this might happened because I have such thin skin and bruise easily.
I’m 40 days post op and still using tapes, The swelling of the right side is much less than the other side, and I feel that one of my nostrils is smaller than the other one, and I also feel that the base is tilted slightly. Would you please kindly advise. Thanks 🙏
Roman Sedhai yes i also had super uneven nostrils they are way better now! Also my nose is less swollen! I suggest you go visit your surgeon thats what i did and i still have follow ups!
It been 6months of my surgery, but there is rigidness and puffiness on nose tip ,dr. Said it is due to graft that he putted in my nose tip for septoplasty but it is 6months now and my nose still look swelled😔
With cartilage grafting in the tip, it will take over a year for all the swelling to disappear. Depending on the reason for the tip cartilage grafting, you may always have a nose that is more stiff and supported than you are used to. South Asian and Middle Eastern noses often lack tip support so surgeons will add cartilage to create better shape and support.
Hi doctor I am post op 1month, and on the bridge of my nose i feel and i see a bump My doctor told me that it's skin sticking to the bone and that I should massage it I am scared because it looks deformed Can you tell me your opinion and will it go away ? How to treat it ? Thank you
Had revision surgery 3 weeks ago (thick skin) and my left side profile looks short and just fine but the right side is much longer and it makes no sense to me how that’s possible, could this possible be swelling. Also nostril holes being two diff sizes. Any guidance on this would be so appreciated as my anxiety is through the roof.
Hi Dr.Shah! Thank you so much for this video :) I just had a question regarding thick skin. I just had my rhinoplasty two weeks ago and I’m very worried about scar tissues occurring and being viable in my nose. Do you have any tips on how to decrease scar tissue from occurring?
Hi Maria. I think the best way to reduce scar burden is to control swelling with the techniques I've described. Also control the oily nature of your skin with retinols.
Thank you Doc Can you recommend a caffeine cream or tape to use? I got this from co2 laser 8 Weeks ago and it won’t go away. My doc is saying wait it out but I hate it and only on one cheek It’s small but noticeable. Thank you
Hi Dr Shah, love how responsive you are! I just had my nose done about 1 month ago and have developed a slight bump. My surgeon said it’ll go away and there’s no need for do anything or worry about it but I was wondering if I should follow the massage tips you mentioned and tape even when told it was not necessary! Thanks in advance :)
Hi Situl. I always recommend that you follow your surgeon’s instructions. However. If the bump isn’t gone in another month, I would ask about steroids and taping. Good luck!
Hi Brent. Tip swelling is normal. It will go down with time. Work with your surgeon or use the techniques described in my video. Occasionally steroid injections are necessary to reduce tip swelling.
I'm 7 months after open rhinoplasty and my tip is huge, will it shrink yet? Cause it's really bugging me...also when i try to laugh it looks like my nose is pointing a bit down with that huge tip...
It takes a year for the tip to shrink so you have some time. If it doesn’t shrink enough for your liking then you may need revision tip surgery. Do you have oily, thick skin?
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver Wish i could share some photos so you could tell...this is bugging me like crazy...revision rhinoplasty is expensive...would some injections help? The tip is really huge...
I'm 1 year and 9 months after surgery. Will these tips help to reduce swelling, or is a revision needed? I can still feel my nose pulsing from time to time, does it mean it's still healing?
You can give it a try. If things don't improve in 3 months, you may need to consider revision surgery. This is if you had a primary, first time rhinoplasty. If this was not your first surgery, you may have swelling in the nasal tip for 2-3 years after surgery. In either situation, please see your surgeon after 3 months of trying my techniques. Good luck!
My daughter is 9 months post op to reduce a small hump and slightly refine the tip. Her nose looks great, so natural that family and friends don't even notice she had surgery. But there is no supratip break and we aren't sure if it's still swollen (she has medium thick skin and her nose still feel firm and numb) or maybe the surgeon didn't make one? She doesn't want to insult him by asking about it, which is crazy. Her Dr. doesn't like to do steroid injections. She wore tapes at night for 3 month post op, but never massaged her nose. She exercises a lot, so I know that can increase swelling. The last time she saw him was at 4 month and he will see her again at 1 year. Should she start massaging her nose now or is it too late? Also, can you use your fingers or do you have to use the tongue depressors? Thanks!
Actually I’d just leave it alone at this point. The last 20% of her swelling will go over the next 3 months. Let it proceed naturally. Not all noses need a supratip break that is obvious to the casual observer.
Hey, I had my rhinoplasty 2 weeks ago. I had a deviated septum and a bump in my nose. Around 1 week ago my surgeon removed my splint and revealed my nose. It was very swollen, as expected! Everyday I’m seeing new things on my nose, the latest being the fact that my nose is still a little crooked! I’m not sure if it’s going back to how it was before or if it could this be due to swelling coming down on just one side? Could you please advise, can swelling make you see things? thank you in advance sir.
Getting a purely straight nose on a normally asymmetric face is pretty much impossible. But swelling this early into your recovery will hide how much improvement you actually have.
The inside of the nasal wall where the bone is in the middle on one side of my nose is very swollen. It feels like a big hard lump. Is that normal? Just swelling? I'm only barely a month post opp. Thank you 💕
Is it normal that i have a hole in my stitches? Its like the alar base i think its called is no longer connected to my face. A dr told me its because of swelling but in worried. Also im dripping loads. Im 9 days po
It can be related to swelling. Try applying topical vitamin C serum onto the area to boost collagen growth and wound healing. Also tape it down for the next week to aid resealing. Use a humidifier at your bedside at night and use saline nasal spray as needed during the day to help control dripping. Add an oral antihistamine as well. This should all help.
You typically lose about 80% of the swelling in the first 2-3 months, but the rest of the swelling takes up to a year to disappear if this is the first rhinoplasty you've had. If this is not the first surgery, it can take up to 2 years to heal completely.
hi doctor , many thanks for your kindness to answer our questions and concerns. i did rhino two weeks back, i understand the swelling and i am accepting it but my tip is very upturned (piggy tip) ! is it going to be normal ! this is scaring me a lot. please check my comment i am depressed!!! i see most of the girls are so happy with the results after removing the cast !! =( exceptfor me it was a nightmare.
RNS it is not unusual to have an upturned nose due just to swelling. When the swelling goes down, the tip drops. At two weeks postop, you have way too much swelling. You should ask your surgeon about a steroid taper to speed the deswelling process after one month.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery doctor i forgot to tell you that there is a weird smell inside my nose kind off bad smell ! I told my doctor he said its blood. But its still there ! And i ll be week 3 in few days and its still there! :( i hope there is nothing wrong ! What it could be ?
Just had my surgery yesterday been nothing but pain I don’t know if it’s due to swelling or what but this shit hurts can’t wait to see the results after the swelling goes down tho.
Dr. my question is the tip of my nose looks chubby and undefined does that mean my doctor did not revise the tip? I had the surgery done three days ago
Salve, io ho fatto rinoplastica 1 mese fa ma il mio chirurgo mi ha detto di non usare fasce per il naso ma di lasciarlo libero…come mai? Dovrei metterlo invece o no?
Nancy Jazmín increase your protein. Drink more water to flush out the swelling. It will all resolve with time. Did you have any other facial surgery at the same time as your nose surgery?
Hey Dr. Shah! I love how responsive you are to all the comments even recently. I had a quick question. How accurate are the surgery table photos taken right after the procedure is done under anesthesia? Can I expect those results to be similar to the final result I will see in one year? I had a tip plasty with a rib graft inserted into my tip and I really love my after results that I saw in the operating room table pictures, however right now I have a lot of swelling due to my thick skin and I was just wondering if there was hope to have a similar result as to the surgery table pictures. Thank you so much
You will need to be vigilant and stay on top of your swelling reduction strategies to get the result you saw on table that existed before swelling and scarring set in.
Hello Dr Shah, I am 20 days post-op. I have more swelling in the tip of my nose internally which is producing a bit of discomfort/ stiffness on one side. One nostril seems bigger than the other. I don't know if this is due to my doctor bringing my nostrils closer into my face. Moreover, my nose has been getting more movement, thus, I have been feeling a few dashing feelings/ tingling around my face (upper lip, cheeks) is this normal? Thank you,
Hi Doctor. I am 7 days post op surgery. I had a septorhinoplasty done to fix my deviated septum and reduce the dorsal hump. He also did a very slight tip lift and my doctor said I needed the columella shaved in order to have a better profile. I feel so hideous right now. My nose is no longer slim and long like I liked and now it is short, wide and pig like with a point. Will the tip drop and look normal again once swelling goes down? Or am I going to have to get a revision done? I am so sad and have been feeling depressed to the point where I want to drop out of college and not go outside anymore. I have contacted my surgeon but I think he is ignoring me because I had an anxiety attack after my cast removal because it looked like not what I wanted. Can I send you pre and post op pictures for advice? What do you recommend? Any help is appreciated.
aarya nol you are only 7 days postop. You have a year until your nose is fully healed. Pace your anxiety. If you have a history of panic attacks or anxiety it is imperative that you work side by side with a/your therapist while you heal to give you perspective. I’d be happy to look at your before and afters to give my opinion. You can email at info@drmanishshah.com.
Hello, I’m in my 5th month after the operation. I’m still doing massages quite regularly because I have a very thick skin, it is not very very swollen right now, it gets better day by day. BUT after I wear surgeon mask due to covid19, the tip of my nose got swollen a lot. The tip immediately gets wider and swollen even though I wear the mask only for max 30mins in a day. It again gets back to normal after I do massages. But I am confused, is it ok to wear surgeon mask? Or should I wear those transparent face covers instead of surgeon masks?
It is ok and safe to wear masks. Because your nose gets warmer under the mask, it swells up. Your tip won’t settle down to its final smaller shape for 7 more months. After you take your mask off, try gently icing the nose first. This will get it to shrink faster. Also your thick skin can be managed with topical Retin-A to resurface the skin and thin it out a bit more.
The distance b/w my nose and upper lip is increased now after rhinoplasty making me look weird. My surgeon says that your nose tip will drop so It will look natural. But I’m 2.5 weeks post op and did not see any drop in my nose tip. Does everyone’s nose tip drop?
I’m 3 year post op. I informed my surgeon that I have swelling on My forehead area, when I apply pressure it leaves me with skin depression . Have you seen of this.? My forehead gestures a limited.
I had rhinoplasty one month before with thick skin my nose more bigger but my surgeon doesn't tell anything about taping the nose ......does swelling go down or should I use taping?
Hi doctor Manish Shah. I ve had my rhinoplasty on 6 of December.. In 6 days I will be 4 months away. My swelling in the bone is not exist from month 2 but I have super tip very swollen like I have a little bump and the tip is a little bit swollen but is very good . Is there any chance to have been a mistake on surgery? I talk to doctor and he told me is still swollen.
angeldance161417 it certainly can be swelling because the Supra tip/tip areas deswell by 10-12 months after surgery. You could try taping the Supra tip area to flatten it out.
Hello, I just had rhinoplasty 2 weeks ago and one nostril looks more open than the other, is there a technique to improve this asymmetry while it recovers? make a thicker wing or lower it a little? Thanks!
There will be asymmetric swelling for a while. I usually recommend oral steroids at the 4 week postop mark and the use of silicone nasal dilators to shape things better.
Hi Doctor, I am 3 weeks post op for a septorhinoplasty, my nose feels huge at the bottom like a supratip deformity, what can I do to aid this is it swelling?
Business of Life ice your nose after exercise or heat exposure. Increase protein intake in your diet. Remove extra salt from your foods. Stop alcohol. Tape the tip at night to squeeze out the edema/swelling. Finally, speak with your doctor to make sure nothing is wrong with your healing.
Dr. - I am massaging on the hour every hour - except for at night when the tape is in place? In your opinion - am I massaging too much? Also - I am not massaging when the tape is in place as it seems to make the tape adhere to my face so much that I am almost damaging my skin to remove it. Only happened once - but I learned NOT to rub that tape for that very reason.
Hello. My patients only manipulate the nose with massage three times a day for a couple minutes at a time. They wear tape for 2 months at night then stop. Any swelling that remains after that point is managed by diet and steroids. If you irritate the skin with too much taping you can reswell the skin and set your progress back.
Dear doctor, I have a question for you, I would be very happy if you answer it. I am in the 6th month of my rhinoplasty, my nose gets thinner when I apply excessive pressure by squeezing from the nasal walls and edges of my nose with my thumbs. Does this indicate that I still have a lot of swelling in my nose?
Dr Shah, I had my rhinoplasty 4 months back, there is a bump of my nose and my tip now looks like beak nose and is swollen . The doctor is saying it is swelling and it goes away, should I be worried ?
Hi. By 4 months, postop swelling on the bridge is gone. If you still have a hump there, it is not going away without revision surgery. The tip swelling, however, takes one year to resolve, so you’ll have to be patient until then to see your final tip result.
That doesn’t make sense since the taping is designed to reduce deadspace. It’s similar to ACE wrapping a sprained ankle and icing it to reduce swelling.
@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver Each time you take tape off you are lifting skin from the underlying tissue. This is the general consensus now as discussed at the most recent European rhinoplasty conference
I’ll take my 20 years of nasal taping and post surgical molding experience over any consensus paper. Most of the top surgeons in the U.S. tape after surgery to shrink the skin and reduce nasal edema. If you don’t control skin sleeve thickness, especially in oily skinned individuals, you’ll end up with less defined outcomes even if you’ve handled the bone and cartilage well.
@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver that's why UK and European guidelines often differ. We don't all do things the US way but that's okay, you do you, we will do us :)
That is one way to manage the healing process but it can be difficult for patients to keep going in to see their surgeons. My process is designed for patients to control at home.
Hey doctor Its about a month i did nose job. The thing is my tip is still swelling and when i touch of my tip i feel something in front of my teeth like connection?!
