This liquor shelf is made to hold about 20 bottles across a 2-metre span. It is lit with an RGB LED light strip housed inside an aluminium heat-sinking channel. The channel comes with a diffuser strip that clicks into the channel and protects the LED strip from dust. The light shines up through the bottles to create a nice warm ambiance in the room and I have it wired into a switch block at the door of the room so it can all be switched on when entering or exiting the room. A cheaper option would be to run an eBay-style strip through a transformer plugged into a power outlet.
This video is more of an overview and doesn't go into too much detail about the skills required to weld, route, wire, and finish the project. It shows a small section of work for a much larger project - converting an old iron garage into a fully lined mancave - or clubhouse.
The liquor shelf frame is made from 20mm angle iron, 25mm flat bar, and some round bar to match the look of the mancave. Bottles sit on a 140mm x 19mm length of dressed pine which has a slot routed out for the LED strip. The LED strip sits flush with the surface so bottles sit level on the shelf.
The shelf is screwed into 4 studs so it can easily withstand 20 glass bottles. The shelf is mounted at about shoulder level so it's easy to reach for bottles but too high for small children.
