The Three60 tower in Manchester is nearing completion, the circular structure covered in glass has had the construction cranes dismantled and removed. Overlooking the Mancunian way and Chester Road intersection it compliments the surrounding buildings. Next to the Elizabeth tower and Deansgate square.

Does anybody know why all these skyscrapers look the same. The same being very ugly as well.

Probably cheaper and easier to build, higher profit margin for developers

There all extremely ugly fascia’s, not a skyline to match London

I don’t know if you’re aware but London is the capital city of the world and so your comparison is fucking stupid

The money is always going to filter towards London, there are still some beautiful buildings in Manchester and Developers making use of the older facade of buildings

Christ modern skyscrapers in the Western world are so damn ugly compared to the beautiful, easy on the eye, futuristic style of the skyscrapers being built in the Middle East/Gulf States and Asia

They are a bit generic I must admit

If you think these are bad, you should see the absolute state of Leeds city centre these days.

Ironically many of those buildings abroad have UK architects. I think cost is the difference, and the chinese and gulf states have plenty of dosh to splash around on vanity projects.

@@vordman There's also the fact that the UK (and a few other countries in Europe) have a LOT of middle-aged and retired nimby's who choose to live in metropolitan/urbanised areas, and essentially act as a ball and chain on any new projects regarding construction; especially skyscrapers - and its really unfair on the younger generations who deserve/want more from their cities. So developers need to keep plans simple (outside of London) to avoid drawing too much negativity so that their project doesn't get rejected. Brighton is a really good example of a city that has a lot of potential that is being absolutely destroyed by middle-class green voters. Developers will put forward a proposal for an apartment block of 5 stories (much needed) - and you have a whole bunch of people, who live in £1m seafront townhouses, coming forward to say 'this isn't Manhattan/Dubai/London!' lol. It's deluded. Brighton recognised that the city needed an 'icon' and there was value in seeing the city/channel from above - so instead of a skyscraper (which developers knew would get rejected) they built the i360. It's literally a single glass room on a 300ft pole - and the taxpayer is now footing the bill of millions because it wasn't as successful as they thought it would be. So where Brighton could have had a skyscraper; a new icon to the city; and a financial asset by having a tall building that thousands of people could live and work in -- they now have a single glass room which can only host a few tens of people at a time, on a massive pole that cost 1/3 the price of an average skyscraper. The UK is basically complaining itself into uninspiring and unattractive developlent - despite having some of the most talented architects on the globe. Most other countries around the world do not have this problem, it's almost exclusive to Europe (at least to this extent) - where someone offering to build something new and attractive in a city is met with hostility, it's crazy.
