"I'm in the Senate" ...... "I'm, like, clearly right in front of the elevator" - A U.S. Senator, ladies and gentlemen. This woman's job is to negotiate on behalf of her constituents and the American people and she's giving answers a literal 5 year old would give. She got out of the House and into Senate and seems to have had a MASSIVE ego trip and the only thing I've seen her doing is working with Republicans on a bill for big business while hiding and dodging reporters and not answering even her own constituents. I wish we had a recall process for the Senate...

The big difference here is that this will help the commoners and peasantry, rather than the already grossly overstuffed military, police, and of course the rich social elite. But you know, inflation wouldn't be such a problem if we directed funding away from the military, and made billionaires, millionaires, and corporations pay their fair share of taxes. Now, I won't assume that you don't call out Republicans on their out of control spending, or their hypocrisy in suddenly caring about the deficit / inflation when Dems are in power. I will, however, ask if you do.

@@stevepackard8542 I did. In Korea. 0 additional dollars to see an asthma specialist. My company paid my $73 insurance fee. I only paid $15 during the visit, because I wanted to stock up on 8 Albuterol inhalers before returning to this backwards country. The US is so far behind. It's embarrassing.

Simena especially knows that she's going to be a one-term senator, which is why she is securing her future by tanking this bill. She is going to get set up for LIFE after she's "forced out of office," and that's just the way our system works. It's f*cked. ON top of this, I think it's all a show - I don't think the Democratic leadership wants this bill to pass either. It's terrible for their donors. Just like Obama blamed his inaction on the big bad meany-head Republicans (but then did not lift one finger to fight them), this administration gets to blame the parliamentarian, Sinema and Manchin for its inaction (without lifting one finger to fight them). The thing that bothers me is that if Manchin retired, that seat would, without a doubt, go to a Republican. So if nothing else changed, we'd be back to Senate Majority Leader McConnell, and we wouldn't even be able to fill judicial vacancies, let alone pretend that there's even a minuscule chance that any good legislation could be discussed, to say nothing of actually passing anything.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is this idea that people are getting voted to go to Washington D.C. as a representative to do nothing. They raise campaign funds from people based on how little they accomplish. And they get paid nearly 200,000 dollars for that. And these are Senators who have jobs for 6 years at a time. A 6 year job to do nothing for 175k a year. Someone sign me up for that job. Do nothing? Sure. I can do that. And I promise you if I'm elected, I will do nothing to the best of my ability. No matter how many people ask me to do something, I will do nothing.

Katie Porter represents Irvine CA and it's interests only. She directly told a CEO of Chase bank to pay his employees more but said nothing about lowering the cost of living in the City of Irvine itself. I applaud her constantly holding accountable those that need to be, however she needs to be held accountable as well. Any person in any City in the USA should be able to move from their home to any other city regardless of wages or job. No city should be more expensive than the poverty line.

They can't come up with a reason to oppose it because there is no reason to oppose it. They can't say "our donors don't want this" because that would give the game away but we all know that's the case. Every person in this country (right-wing or left-wing) would benefit from an improved country. Find one Republican voter in West Virginia that would oppose improving schools... If it's the cost that is a problem, maybe you should have been dealing with this over the decades. Instead of a 4 trillion dollar package at one time, we could have been upgrading the country yearly with a smaller price tag. But apparently, giving money to defense contractors and tax cuts to billionaires is more important than schools and the environment.

There's a major problem with this idea beginning with your thesis-- A HUGE majority of the Red State Voters, by the very mere fact of voting republican, are electing representatives de facto who are OPPOSED/ inherently contrary to their best interests, particularly economically but also politically. This is the brilliance of Karl Rove.... People in the bible belt and more conservative mid-west states vote conservative on the basis of social/cultural preferences concerning things like Abortion, Gay marriage, etc...
