I think when Din Djarin is kicking the super battle droids it is a reference to the robot testers kicking the robots in those Boston Dynamics videos to test their balance. Search: "Every time Boston Dynamics has abused a robot" Bonus: "Atlas robot swearing mod"
Counterpoint: Jack Black can only play one character - Jack Black - and Jack Black is annoying AF, right down to the facial hair. (Full disclosure: I hate Jack Black.)
Din saying “You had me at Battle Droids” isn’t a throwback to The Simpsons’ “You had me at hello” because that line from The Simpsons is actually a throwback to the “You had me at hello” that was uttered by Renee Zellweger’s character ‘Dorothy’ to Tom Cruise playing the title character in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire.
Femto and Zepto (from the translations with the nanobots) are both really small measurements… so probably relate to how zoomed in the image was. I loved this episode I shouted “loophole” several times, loved the cameos, loved that it was a side quest episode that also advanced the main story!
Captain Bombardier states he was a “facilities planner”, maybe he working on The Death Star…. Maybe planning the plumbing system. The CHT (Collection Holding and Transfer) system must have been massive.
Aren't the Jedi dead at this time? That's like saying "The Greek military is doing the Spartans jobs by protecting Sparta" like the Spartans are still around lol
Originally Jedi and Mandalorians did kinda the sane thing, there's a comic (not sure if it's Canon now) where dooku starts a Civil War, abd calls both the Jedi and Mandalorians to help telling each that the other was the cause of the war...the Mandalorians were basically massacred, which is why Jango hates Jedi...
I have a personal theory that during the sequel trilogy, Grogu is ruling mandalore and policing Hutt space, given that Boba took the place of Jabba on Tatooine. I see the madolorians being sherrifs/marshals of multiple planets.
It’s interesting to observe how Din is highly effective at ingratiating himself with ugnaughts, tuskens, and other oppressed/stigmatized demographics, but he is so persistently ruthless with droids. And this seems in spite of the fact that we are seeing more and more humanization and personification of droids in the contemporary canon. I loved the line from the bartender about “human life is so short.” Such a fascinating and enjoyable episode. And Grogu’s knighthood feels like a perfect time capsule to revisit someday somehow - maybe in some other show set hundreds of years in the future.
I wonder if his knighthood comes with rights and privileges that will later be exploited. Indeed, the promise of the Duke(?) to formally recognize Mandalore will also come back with a geopolitical coupling with Plazir.
Just wanted to be that guy, the humanization of druids started as a 3po, R2 sidestory in one of the EU books, basically they stumble upon a whole group of independent druids living in the underbelly of Coruscant
@@Boundless-Boredom I stated a real reason. Star Wars is NOT a political vehicle to pass mentally ill ideology to the audience. Folks don’t watch to see 300lbs women who can’t act worth a shit as a character who’s totally irrelevant to the story. The data bears this out too, viewership is way down on this season so clearly they’re doing shit wrong
You missed the Alice in Wonderland reference, the Queen playing a game with live animals and everyone letting her win or is off with your head. Not as gruesome as AIW of course, but Grogu helping her win was so cute 🥰
Yes, I thought of Alice in Wonderland when the Mandalorians entered the royals dining room. The spaced-out diners suggested the Mad Hatter's tea party.
I'm consistently amazed by how you folks put together such a well-researched, well-edited video for all these shows, usually the day each episode comes out. That's clearly a lot of work. Well done!
Not trying to take away the merith were is due just bringing more info, but usually channels that grow a lot like this are approached by agencys and they offer video editors, writters, staff and sponsors/more income if they join, i dont know if SC team its part of an agency or not but they do a great work, i just hope that if they are part of an agency they dont get overtaken and replace like it happened on RT, Smosh, Wisecrack, machinima and many more i'd hate to see that happening to SC
Not that I think about it. It’s kinda obvious. Usually people that hate a franchise were fans or are still fans. You don’t hate anything you don’t care about.

Another line that I think did a bunch of heavy lifting, is when Bo-Katan said “too much Mandalorian blood has already been spilt by our own hands.” It’s why she never challenged Djin for the saber, and I think showcases why she’s the best leader for this group. It shows that she wasn’t willing to harm one of her people for a symbol, and that she’s holding Mandalorian life above all else. It really honors the growth that she had as a character throughout Clone Wars and Rebels, while also defining her as a person now.
I see what your saying but I still think the best story would be the foundling with no royal ties leading to a united mandalore rather than look the royals have power again Bo-Katan is a great character but I just like the underdog story.
@@Havel_LordBear If din is going to learn how to lead, learning from bo katan would be the best choice at this point. Bo has the skill, the will, the experience and the political connections. Din currently has none of those, so what better way to is there, than to gain all that, interning for bo katan? Uniting mandalorians and retaking mandalore and killing moff is bo's unfinished character arc from clone wars and rebels.
When Din was kicking the super battle (loader) droids, it immediately made me feel like it was a reference to Boston Dynamics and their Atlas robot. They have multiple videos of the designers kicking them and knocking boxes out of their hands. I've found myself wondering "would one of them malfunction and fight back?"
The oldest and deepest easter egg is the plot driver for the episode. The contaminated fluid making droids go rogue was first used in Star Wars in 1979 in the illustrated kids book "Star Wars The Mystery of the Rebellious Robot".
At the end of Season 2, I really expected Bo and Din's conflict over the dark saber would be much of a bigger thing. Turns out it was resolved by a loophole.
And What's The Armourer Gonna Say? When She Finds Out! A Loophole is a Loophole but isn't it a ie Challenge or Fight? For The Dark Saber! Good episode But Gutted there's only 2 episodes left! Too much is gonna happen in the last 2! 1 about The Mandalorian's, Moff Gideon, Dark Saber etc! Cheers 🍻
I felt as though they were setting up Din's gradual learning to wield the Darksaber by confronting his inner conflict. I was really looking forward to that level of character development. :( I really feel as though his development is being stalled.
Bruh, as soon as he said droids I knew he was a separatist. The fact they where having problems with separatist battle droids ,the head of security knowing of the droid problem and the uhgnaughts not knowing of the defective droids it's pretty easy to connect the dots
I felt like this episode encapsulated what it felt like to play out a planet mission in a game like Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect. It had lil side quests, negotiations and tasks given to get to objectives, small story beats like ugnaught manners and dialect, and big time events that move the overall story further.
@@stevena.7022 I'm ok with that. It is a way to tell stories yet it isn't the only way, and this show has done a good job of balancing dynamics like that into some of its episodes.
I like that if a season has 10+ episodes. I remember I couldn't wait for mando episodes, watch them 5+ times each. This year feels like they just spit on it. 6/10 So far...
This comment was well put. I personally really enjoyed the flow of the episode and it did enough to advance the mainline story it didn't really feel like misplaced filler to me.
Exactly why it SUCKED. If the season had like 20 episodes, I'd be fine. It has 8, and 3 episodes have been useless, stupid filler that is terribly written.
The foot chase through the city streets is an homage to the foot chase in Blade Runner. It even ends the same way with the robot that’s being chased by the human detective crashing through glass.
They played to Jack Blacks and Lizzo's strengths: so campy and silly, they feel a little wrong and creepy. Leads us to expect one of them to be the episodes antagonists. But it turns out they're just a slightly weird and creepy pair of competent leaders.
I noticed the iRobot similarities immediately. The crime scene also reminds me of when Detective Spooner was investigating Dr. Lanning's death with the holographic caution tape. The alarms the droids made sounds familiar too. Maybe the same as the cops from Minority Report.
It was a pretty good one off, didn't really like the ending because we've been through this already with rebels and we know how poorly that ended. I just don't think it's going to last.
if i learned anything from my time in the psych ward and my being assigned a psychiatrist, its that i need to just fuggin enjoy things and not ever think them. im happy as a medicated clam
I honestly enjoyed it. I know a lot of people have been complaining that there is no "direction" this season and people don't know the main plot. Am I the only one who understood the story of the season in episode 2? They made it very clear they were going to bring back all the Mandalorians and take back Mandalore. Great cameos this episode. I lost my crap seeing Jack Black and Christopher Lloyd.
Me too i really loved it. I really like that mandalorian is not a classical Star Wars series with jedi philosophy and sith lords. Yet i do understand that some Fans wants to see a more traditonal Star Wars Story

@@SoberAddiction Nice strawman you've built there, thinking all I want is pew-pew. Besides, the best way to tell stories isn't through plot, but through *character development*. Unfortunately, Mando is too much Book of Boba Fett and not enough Andor - or even Bad Batch - levels of character development.
I for one enjoyed the episode, as a "side-quest" episode - especially b/c of all the world-building elements. And hey, at least it's not yet another visit to Tatooine.
Agreed. We get to see more of the Outer Rim, and its limitless potential as the "independent" portion of the galaxy, and that it's not always just Tatooine-esque sandy badlands. There's so much that can be done with the premise of people making a society out of whatever is available with the remnants and aftermath of the last galactic war.
all this show has been is side quests lmfao I respect your opinion but we have 2 episodes left and literally the last couple minutes of bo getting her crew back contributed to the plot. And it’s not even that intresting
I liked how Plazir reminded me a lot of the new Mandolorians under Satine, and the fact they exiled Helgait to Plazir's moon, much like Death Watch got exiled to their moon
There is a bit of a good hidden message in this episode I believe. When, Bo Katan wanted the saber she shouldn't be the leader. But, when she didn't want the saber, she should be the leader.
I am wondering if by the end something happens to Bo making her admit why she didn't want to fight Din for the Darksaber while she gleefully fought Axe for leadership. We've seen Bo didn't try to take charge of the Tribe, and only came back to the Nite Owls when the Armorer reminded her she was the best choice for leader. Her keeping Din around is making me think she can't help but doubt she is the one fate wants to lead Mandalorians. It'll literally be her fourth attempt while the other three ended in dramatic failures. From then on, three possibilities: Din goes back to space dad and Bo becomes Mand'alor, Bo is wounded/doublecrossed/killed by Moff Gideon and Din is forced to intervene to take charge (and perhaps save her), Bo confesses to Din (BoDin fans would love that). One thing seems to be certain though: Moff Gideon will return and almost certainly try to take back the Darksaber.

I hope this is the case in all honesty. I feel Bo Katan deserves to rule when they claim back the planet but she failed as a leader already (she never won the saber previously). Have mando win it back and accept it as his fate, I don’t think they’re going that way though..
ChatGPT, Boston Dynamics, Irobot, AI replacing jobs (Humans replacing droids)...I got all these vibes from this episode as a commentary on AI from the rise in popularity of ChatGPT. I loved it.
I think people aren't enjoying it because: 1. It's basically sidelined the actual main characters while trying to force us to care about the pretender / failure? 2. Kind of like what was mentioned above, they set up Mandalorian culture so brilliantly, just to tear it all down with ridiculous loop holes and nonsense. 3. Grogu is basically just a pet now, who occasionally does force stuff of zero consequence. 4. While I don't think most of the episodes are as bad as some people seem to think, the fact that they are doing soooo much world building at the expense of furthering an actual story arc while at the same point only giving us 8 episodes after a 2+ YEAR wait is a little frustrating. This is only aggravates the above points further. They have already set up like 3 or 4 different plot lines and then done nothing with any of them... 5. Bo didn't "earn" anything. Din was NOT defeated in actual combat as dictated by creed. The darksaber fell after he got caught in a scooby trap. The spider droid did nothing but sit there and watch. Then cart him off. Again, another example of irritating loop holes being used to force us to care about and believe in Bo. Din using that "fight" to give Bo the darksaber is nothing more than an excuse at the absolute best and more like poor writing to "legitimize" Bo and make us think she is THE Mandalorian. I have been a huge Mandalorian fan for many years and have just been giddy with this show. But I find myself caring less and less about it now despite my love of the culture because of all these exasperating annoyances that only keep growing in ramifications and number. I wouldn't even mind seeing Bo being built up. I just can't stand her being forced down my throat at the expense of characters I do actually have an interest in.
My main gripe is the short episodes. It has been frustrating to tune in and then have it be the length of a Clone Wars episode. 4 of the 6 so far I believe have an in show run time of over 30 minutes or are damn near on 30 minutes. Such short episodes makes me want them to have just dumped the season all at once.
They probably lost lots of viewers just with this one atrocious episode. I wouldn't expect a fourth season after seeing this. Someone at Disney just screwed up very badly.
@@VlPER007 i don't think shifting the story to a wider Mandalorian plot is necessarily a bad choice, but the execution of that story on screen has been shaky. It was always going to be difficult to develop Grogu's character given that he's still a baby at fifty years old. They pretty much designed this character-writing problem into the show's premise. Right? If they are to keep the story going, they have to write around Grogu. In truth, that's always been the case. He's always been a "pet" as you put it. At best, he was a pet the moment he stopped being Mando's McGuffin a few episodes into Season One. As for your comments on the value for production time ... Well, there are reasons why studios have always considered science fiction a high budget venture - at least since it stopped being a B-flick genre back in the 1950s/60s. If you are a fan of quality science fiction, you will notice that you spend a lot of time waiting for the next decent film or serialized show that isn't cheap or awful in some way. Welcome to the club. The biggest problem that Disney confronts with the Star Wars franchise is that Disney has a corporate culture, not an artistic one. This means a lot of scriptwriting which has the stamp of "writing by committee" on it (that's not a compliment.). And they are prone to indulge in excess displays of cloying fan service to the point where they will fill hours of footage with winks and nods to the audience. ("Hey! Here's an obvious reference to something in another Star Wars! Get it? Get it?!") This might satisfying to fans in the short term, but it is NOT in the long term. It's like the fast food of film and television. You can get full on it very quickly but it's not very satisfying and you'll shit it out pretty quickly after consuming it.
Thanks for doing these videos. I have no idea how you turn around this much nerd goodness same day. Your videos are the first thing I watch after any episode I watch that you break down. Thanks for the hard work, great info and be funny all in one. I’m with you. I love episodes like this even with crazy cameos.
Lando's co-pilot from Sullust was Nien Nunb, not Sny Snub. You might be getting his name confused with Sy Snoodles, the OG OT singer in Jabba's Palace.
This season is leading me to believe that the whole series is actually Bo Katan's story as told through Din Jarin. "The Mandalorian" title is referring to Bo Katan.
This is the problem with this season. It's not supposed to be bo Katans story. It's supposed to be the story of a foundling becoming a mandelorian, told through din jarin, a mandelorian who was a foundling after being saved by a mandelorian, as he has become a the mandelorian who saved a foundling. Grogu story and din jarins story rhyme, and as a story telling device, it works perfectly because through grogus journey from foundling to mandelorian, we're also learning din jarins story from foundling to mandelorian. If "the mandelorian" is bo katan, then the first 2 seasons are pointless and all this show is now is a just more seasons of the clone wars.
This season's writing is absolute crap... I don't get why people are defending it. It sucks. This episode was the worst. Yet people liked this trash writing. We only have 8 episodes in each season, 2 years apart. Wasting episodes like this several times in one season is just sad.
Stick with it. I highly doubt the result here is “Bo Katan leads Mandalorian restoration.” Things seem too good to be true for her right as the finale is coming and there were loose threads dropped throughout the season that haven’t been pulled on yet.
RX24 AKA REX was introduced decades ago as the pilot of the transport vessel on the Disney attractions star tours before it got updated with C3PO. Really nostalgic to see them in this scene too bad we did not get to hear them speak.
22:25 we seen that Din still has trouble wielding the Darksaber, I think this is to contrast his difficulty wielding the Darksaber with Bo Katan’s ease in wielding the Darksaber later in the episode.
Your Palpatine jokes may get under my skin sometimes but my man, you just GET IT!!! This episode was done rather well in terms of the narrative of the overall show
I thought it was an overall pretty good episode and the cameos didn't disturb me (I'm relatively certain we're going to see some of these guys again, but maybe we won't.) I've been asking ever since the mythosaur episode "That creature that captures Din Djarin appears to be half robot half living create (à la count dooku) and defeated Din in a duel where they made a point of showing us he lost the saber. Bo Katan defeated that creature and took the saber......but gave it back to Din.....why is it not Bo Katan's saber now?) I received plenty of interesting answers and a lot of not so interesting insults......but I'm glad the show gave us an answer :))
The larger imperial ship they have is Gideon’s ship that they captured at the end of season 2. The smaller fighters that they have are the Fang fighters… a smaller version of the Gauntlet.
Gonna have to disagree with Doug and Jules here, as Maul did lose a duel when the darksaber was used. It was used in episode S5 E16 of the Clone Wars to fight Darth Sidious. So technically the rule would still make Luke the ruler of Mandalore, so it's kind of a moot point.
I really hope they aren't shifting the show from Din to Bo. We really haven't had any emotion from the Mando this season yet in regards to what he wants. He's a passenger at this point. I love the Bo stuff and I love how she could be a leader. I just wish Mando's feelings were shown a bit more so we could understand where his head is at. This episode (other than episode 1 or 2) feels like the first we get some character from Mando. It would make this season so much more interesting if we knew his interests more. That's why I fear they're shifting it more to Bo rather than Din. Thank you for the video ScreenCrush, good job. Always love your videos. So detailed.
I can’t believe how quickly you can turn these videos out. Do you get to watch the show 24 hours in advance? The amount of detail and editing that go into this is mind-boggling.
When they went to the docks and the battle droid was talking, my IMMEDIATE thought was “ITS ROGER”. I was half expecting to hear Din Djarin or Bo-Katan to say “this is the way”
There's been a bit of foreshadowing that the Darksaber belongs to Bo-Katan in an earlier episode too. In the episode where Din gets captured on Mandalore, you can see he's still struggling with the Darksaber. When Bo-Katan rescues him, she is able to use the blade smoothly and effortlessly.
I like your videos the best! Other channels just focus on everything they hate about the episodes, but you are more focused on what you like about them. High five! I liked this episode a lot and was happy that I could watch it with my family and they enjoyed it too. Super fun.
You know what this episode really reminds of. Every mission from the old KOTOR games. You have a main mission, but you have to do a side quest in order to do the main mission.
I loved this episode. It gave us some good world building, introduced a new locale with it's own political structure, had a nice contained little mystery story, progressed the overall story of the rise of Bo Katan and Mandalore, and was done in an entertaining fashion. They had me at "battle droids," as well.
I agree, it was a fun episode that still moved the story forward. It is also a good episode to reset how dark and intense future episodes have to be. An occasional episode like this makes it so they don’t have to write future episodes so incredibly dark to have an impact, and risk putting themselves into a literary corner of bleakness.
You pointed out that the Aurabesh "A" is like a badge they have to wear forever to display their past shame - this makes it a very direct parallel to The Scarlet Letter! It's even the SAME LETTER. Hadn't noticed before I dug the episode, we don't have to be in a race to the end of the story. It reminds me how back in Season 1 it felt like it might be mostly an adventure-of-the-week series that gradually reveals a larger story, rather than a GoT type serial with galactic stakes. Both are great. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the ride.
Oooof. If you had told me that wasn't the actual episode, but rather a parody of the show taken to ridiculous levels in order to mock the Mandalorian, I seriously would've believed it.

Few Things I'd like to mention: -Din & Bo's dynamic reminded me a lot of Scott & Hope's dynamic from the Ant-Man films (kind of fitting considering that Katie Sackhoff once auditioned for the part of Hope Van Dyne/Wasp) -The planet featured in this episode reminded me (aesthetically) a lot of Xandar from GotG -Because this planet relies on Mandalorian Mercenaries for protection, it reminded me a lot of Clone Wars-Era Mandalor having to rely on outside resources to maintain their (neutral/pacifist) society. -The voice over in the monorail, isn't that Catherine Taber (the voice of Padmé from Clone Wars)? -Jack Black's character reminded me a lot of both The Collector & The Grandmaster from the MCU -It's fitting the this episode featured Jack Black because this episode aired the same date as Illumination's Super Mario Bros Movie (which also feature Jack Black as Bowser). Because Bryce Dallas Howard has also worked with Chris Pratt in the Jurassic World films, maybe she convinced him to get Jack Black to star in this episode? -The malfunctioning droids reminded me a lot of the Repair Ward robots from Wall-E -Much like with the pirates in the previous episode (character references to Captain Hook, Mr. Smee & the Pirates of the Caribbean), the crochet-like game played here with the pill bugs reminded a lot of Alice in Wonderland (where crochet was played with Flamingoes & Hedgehogs)
it was terrifying to see a super battledroid running at full speed. I loved this episode and it was so nice seeing life action battledroids again. And i loeved the i,robot scene.
I think i figured out their strategy - put a bunch of great cameos in the parts people will complain about! I mean, they had me at Christopher. 😂 I also find these world building shows great, too! Actually I was curious if Zakuul from SWOTOR ever entered anyone’s mind when writing this city. It, too, was run on the back of droids, rendering their people useless, spoiled farts. And…it was the secret seat of the first SITH ETERNAL EMPEROR. Deep lore, of course…but still…🧐😀
I loved this episode. The campy opening sequence reminded me of old Star Trek TNG, We got wild, well cast cameos. Grogu will forever have chilled for a day with Lizzo. And now I want a CSI Coruscant show.
No you don’t. Corurscant police are notoriously inept and crap at their jobs. Remember the lieutenant from the Clone Wars? God he sucked at his job and arrogantly at that.
Do you know after the Prequels, Lucas had planned a tv series set in underworld Coruscant with an “investigation of the week” style format. It had gone through the concept planning phase when it was cancelled because Lucas lost interest after toxic prequel hate got out of hand.
Wasn't mentioned in the video, but the police droids that came out to rope off the dead super battle droid, made the same siren sound as the "precrime" police in Minority Report.
excellent vid as always Ryan thanks!! i've been enjoying Mandalorian S3, and this ep6 is eye candy cameo callback galore which i appreciate, but it does feel like a filler ep. i'm totally invested in Bo Katan and the Mandalorian history and people and internal conflict trying to come together, but it feels to me like its just the last 10 minutes that it developed the plot, some very cool action scenes, and then Bo Katan finally claiming the Dark Saber (which is a much sunnier version of what SW Clone Wars viewers have seen) admittedly i cant shake the feeling that as Pedro Pascal is getting busier with other projects, the SW team is needing to find a co-star that will carry this show alongside him and even just take over from him. makes a lot of sense why they introduced Bo Katan in S2, which honestly is THE Mandalorian by lineage and by history in-universe and in real world. also the association with Grogu and Bo Katan as Space Baby and Space Mom is pretty obvious. its the same angle they worked on during S2 for Din Djaren.
i absolutely loved the way the Super Battle Droid behaved when it was exposed. the way it seemed to hesitate for a split second before breaking into a dead sprint, and the panicked way it moved as it fled just seemed so .. human. I feel like it really showed that military droids are also fully sentient beings, just like all of the cute "civilian" droids. The SBD's have always been portrayed as nearly unstoppable, walking tanks. They show up and everyone opens fire, as they lumber steadily forward into the sea of explosions and blaster rounds, before a massive airstrike or other ordinance ravages the battlefield. then the music gets extra music-y, and everyone watches on in horror as the B-2s emerge unfazed from the wall of smoke, and begin wiping everyone out. That stiff, methodical, "generic robot" movement isn't a mechanical limitation. It's military discipline. it's honestly so much scarier now.
Damn, I didn't think of it that way. Star Wars has been really inconsistent with the way they portray droids, with some being emotionless machines fulfilling their tasks, and others like the OOM Battle Droid commanders, Astromechs, and Tactical Droids dripping with personality. While most SBD's don't talk and just walk and fight, there are some like in episode 1 of The Clone Wars which was begging its fellow SBD's to not shoot him while he was "malfunctioning". The idea that some of the Battle Droids could have developed "personality quirks" because of how long they've been in active service AND STILL be willing to march slowly into gunfire and explosions to carry out their bloody task is really scary to imagine.
Jeez... why does every scene in any way similar to another scene in an iconic movie have to be a "tribute". In any case comparing this dross to Blade Runner is simply absurd.
@@Raygo. Yes, intentionally making it look and feel similar in very specific ways (Chinatown-like city streets, escaping to save their life, getting shot twice, etc.) makes it a tribute to a famed predecessor.

I’m not certain, but if you want to get specific, Maul lost his duel with Palpatine on Mandalore. I think it’s the last time we see the darksaber in the Clone Wars. Still, I like to think its Ahsoka’s. It adds to her growing collection of different colored lightsabers …
