Brilliant!.I am a poor guitar and bass player who got given a mandolin last week in a house clearance. Today I played Leaving on a Jet Plane on Mandolin. Not bad at 68 years old!
Good for you!!! I used to play guitar & mandolin in a band for a lot of years, then a stroke stopped all that. I'm tackling both again now & mandolin sure is easier than guitar!!! =D

I just started playing at 57. This was great! I do have that plucky sound and I’m a little concerned that at my age I may have trouble getting my fingers to move correctly but I’m not giving up!
I've played guitar and ukulele (and piano, french horn, trumpet, etc. but those seem irrelevant here) and am solidly mediocre on both. Got a mandolin today! So I will be joining you here on RU-vid. :-)

If your fingertips turn white and there's a lot of pain, ease up on the pressure. You will have string marks on your fingertips no matter what. You might want to have your mandolin set up to make sure the strings aren't too far from the neck.

I don't have one just on tuning, sorry. It's easiest if you use a tuner (I like my Snark) or an app. The strings are tuned to GDAE, starting with the set of strings closest to your face.
