+Tobi Aramide I've never realized that this was true before now, even though it always has been, but Mandy Patinkin is on my short list for people I would like to represent all humans should the need ever arise.
Mandy in this interview comes across as a hardened Santa Claus. It's like he spent so much time travelling around the world giving gifts but got exasperated at humanity's propensity for violence
+Mikhail Kalashnikov Yeah, that's true...but I love how he seems to have hope that humanity can move past its propensity for violence, which is hope that I share...a WONDERFUL human being he is :)
+scratch17 There's always an exception to any rule or generalization, but opportunity, as Mandy said, is the best defense against recruitment. Creating more hatred definitely isn't going to help.
+xLegendaryPete I can see he got to you and so man other people's emotions. Fact is Trump is right if you don't want to see another 9/11 or random shooting happen again soon in Ameirca.
Knight Oyin I'm telling you that white, American-born, non-muslim men consistently are the perpetrators of mass shootings in the United States of America. Statistically, you are more likely to be killed by a middle-class white dude of no connection to islam than you are to be killed by an islamist extremist. The one in San Bernadino was one event. It had connections to radical islamism, but it is far outweighed by mass shootings committed by non-muslims. I'm telling you that your fear is hopelessly misplaced.
Never really understood the argument that because he is successful/rich that this is a good enough reason for the vain popinjay to be President - mainly because there are 120 people richer than him in the USA and by his logic EVEN more qualified to be President!
What a difference about what Mandy is and what they say? It is incredible that one person can start a vicious and demeaning lie and people start to believe it? Instead he is a humanitarian - Thank God and may there be more people like him!
CaptinHoot51 I watched it again. I tested up realizing we all need to here this message again and just how relevant it still is today, 4 years later. Thank you for commenting so I could hear this again.
Low numbers, do u mean low views? Cause if that is what you mean, you have to consider the video was uploaded only couple hours ago. From the time I'm writing this.
+Melissa Carlill Nah no one comes close to being even with Fallon. Stephen had a good run the first four weeks, but his ratings have taken a dive since then. He's behind Fallon and Kimmel, and possibly even Meyers now.
I watched this interview last night and I swear EVERY CELL in my body was VIBRATING! Thank you Mandy Patinkin for VOICING LOVE and PROTESTING the contagious and toxic fear-based speaking that is horrifyingly influential in our country and our world at this time. PLEASE watch this interview - the first part is about Homeland (feel free to skip the first 2 minutes) - the IMPORTANT part is at the 2 min mark till the end! I ACCEPT YOUR REQUEST MANDY, TO EXERCISE MY HUMYNITY and TO THINK ABOUT WHAT WOULD MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE and not this radical fear-based racist rhetoric that is seemingly dominating the news channels these days. I am grateful for the people who actually speak about what they know, who have actually met these HUMYNS rather than treating a group of people as ENEMIES and speaking of genocide of a people to win an election. I condemn these people who sit in their billion-dollar hotels or million-dollar mansions and speak racism and hate and create an US/THEM paradigm that is SO contagious and influential in our community. WE DO NOT NEED MORE HATE IN THIS WORLD. WE NEED LOVE AND INTELLIGENCE! Emotional Intelligence!
I wanted to cry watching this interview and then I saw a video of him in Greece with the refugees and I actually cried when he was holding a little girl who just came with her family on a boat and they didn´t know if she was alive, it broke my heart (at the end she was, thank god). He said afterwards if you don´t help these people..., when you are in need there will be no one, I guarantee you, there will be no one to help you. Thank you Mandy Patinkin, you are a good man, and I do believe that you represent the majority of people on this earth. And for Colbert, nothing new here, he is the best host and a total PRO at interviews and actually listening.
I'm not familiar with the actor, nor have watched Homeland but wow, he has come up with a lot of important things to consider and think about for the future.
+crossfires He was also pretty enjoyable in the early seasons of Criminal Minds before he left the show because it was becoming needlessly dark and violent (he's very principled). And he was really sweet in Dead Like Me several years ago too. The other thing you may recognize him from is The Princess Bride. "My name is Inigo Montoya... prepare to die."
His words are very powerful and you can hear his frustration. We feel fear but we are either completely silent or we are spreading the sentiment of anger. When will we learn from our mistakes. He speaks from his heart. We don't need to kill innocent beings. We don't need it. We absolutely don't want it.Fear is part of us but should not control our very nature to respect life itself. We are all one. I love you all.
Oh my gosh, do I ever have mad respect for him. His voice was cracking, he’s so passionate. And humble - look at how simply he is dressed. Seems very authentic! 🇨🇦
Besides the brilliant comedy and deeper looks into projects, people and issues I may or may not know a lot about, what I love about this show is its sincere, urgent plea for us to be better people in this world by exercising our empathy toward all. As a theatre major, I think that's what the world needs most at this dark, uncertain time.
It was an absolute joy and pleasure listening to this man! He is brilliant in all the ways that needs to count in today's society. I haven't watched Homeland, but I will, and especially now after seeing this passionate man speak about the better parts of the world no one wants to talk about.
Mandy Patinkin is one of the people I wish Stephen could do a full hour-long interview with. That would be so rewarding. Stephen Fry as well, would be so good on this show.
I'm surprised by how many more people associate Mandy Patinkin with Homeland than the Princess Bride or Broadway fame. He is incredible and has been a well-beloved part of my art-appreciating life since childhood!
I was so amazed by Mandy Patinkins words, i looked for his other interviews on this issue and found clips from his interview with Charlie Rose. He was Brilliant there too, but what broke my heart was the comments. People were saying so many bad things about him and telling him a paid agent by the liberals. I cant imagine how hard a mans heart can be to not to register this emotions :/
Midul - I am stunted by those that say terrible things about him when he has a good heart and that is hard to find in his industry of entertainment and in this world.
Is a sad...terrible thing, to realize that there are so many fucking...waaaay too many fucking people that enjoy hating and politicizing everything that doesn’t align with their point of view. If you can not appreciate the humanity in what Mandy is talking about, man you’re lost! This is not about being a conservative or a libertarian! Is about being a decent person with them basics moral values!
People just expose their own shortcomings when they put down someone like Mandy, who obviously, sincerely cares about the world and the people who live in it. Anyone who can be cynical in the face of Mandy Patankin is fundamentally lacking, flawed, broken, dysfunctional. In need of healing.
I love his passion and genuine interest he has for helping people. I hope more people listen and stop giving into the lazy and seductive feelings that we get towards hurting others
When I was watching this on TV tonight, you could tell in Mandy's eyes how passionate he was getting about this. He almost looked like he was going to cry but wow, what an amazing interview with two intelligent men
I know! Why don't we just talk about rainbows and unicorns and egg eachother over lip sync battles like Fallon does right? Fuck real world and its issues
I'm just glad someone took time to actually TALK about these issues. My comment wasn't a criticism of what he was doing, just the intensity of his voice. Why do you even think I was watching this show?
Is he a bit idealistic? Maybe. But it's men like him that give people hope and make the world a better place. Literally has no idea who he was before this but ive got mad respect for him
+Dennis b From the perspective of a non-American who recently visited the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island and listened to the Park Rangers there I wholeheartedly agree. I'm deeply saddened when people from the USA (who like to call themselves patriots) forget how their country was forged and gained its strength. They talk of liberty and forget the most American symbol of it is also known as the Mother of Exiles. They neither know nor understand the words written on the Statue's base.
I wish Mandy Patinkin had stayed with Criminal Minds for as long as Homeland. I'm sorry he regrets doing Criminal Minds. Hearing his character on Criminal Minds tell a victim that they will be okay, helps me feel a little better about my past. I'm really grateful that he was a part of Criminal Minds. Mandy Patinkin seems like such an amazing person.
Wow...I all of us can open our hearts and minds like this man it would greatly reduce the growth of terrorism and war. Because we would be more concerned with loving each other instead of hating each other.
LOL LOVED THIS INTERVIEW; For all the people in the world who feel something when someone dies, I love you and salute you; for all the others.............many whomever you pray to have mercy on you; Love life not war
I love how he lets his hosts advocate for things they are passionate about and doesn't interrupt when the host is making a logical point. The best way to get people to act like us is to import our stuff and ideas.
Very respectful and important interview. Really enjoyed hearing Patinkin speak, and this is perhaps the truth- that Colbert is the only show he could have spoken on without getting interrupted. I do have to note though- the show Homeland perpetuates and reinforces some stereotypes against the Muslim world, which can be harmful in swaying views for the worst. While Patinkin's views are obviously different than his show, that is something he still needs to keep in mind.
