Ah yes, back when cartoons would sometimes just make cameos left and right. It really made the CN City bumpers feel like there was a sort of authenticity to it.
But they were testing a lot of things. CN went through a LOT of changes and was clearly overall different. Im assuming along the lines they thought “the old fans are just gonna eventually stop watching, lets pave the way for the new gen” and we have what we have now
@@pokespartytv8086 It's upsetting that kids today aren't even talking about modern cartoons. They mostly talk about RU-vid videos, video games such as Fortnite or Among Us, and anime.

And then Mandy goes to her friend Billy's place to see his really old hamster, then meets the grim reaper who wants to claim the hamster; she challenges Grim to a bet, he loses, and becomes Billy's and Mandy's best friend forever.
He wasn’t summoned - it’s his job to take the dead to the underworld, and the hamster’s time just so happened to be up. Best/worst of all, we NEVER see that hamster again, but they keep mentioning him in the show regardless.
@@PurpleTheta Because a grim reaper is supposed to claim the souls of those that are about to die, I think. So he was doing his job, even if it wasn't a human soul that he was claiming. I haven't watched the show in forever or really looked into grim reaper lore though, so idk this is just my logical conclusion based on what I remember.
If you think about it it's a similar joke Invader Zim made in an episode where Zim experiments on a happy kid named Nick who says "I'm so happy, all the time, it's great!"
I am now suspicious that Grim is in fact a centuries old imaginary friend that has been around so long the myth of the reaper grew around him and he has forgotten his own origin. Also, through Mandy's bet she adopted Grim as her imaginary friend.
No if it was a actual punishment she would have a Major league baseball team made of those guys. each trying to chear her up. not forgetting they cannot die, As someone made a Meeseeks request to make Mandy smile using ANY means necessarily
I never realized this for so long that Mandy adopted an imaginary friend who had a happy personality? Why didn't she just adopt that orange furred prankster, Bendy? XD
It’s now canon that Mandy had that imaginary friend the whole time, off screen during The Grim Adventures. Edit: Jesus people chill, it was a joke. This doesn’t require arguing with each other over whether it really is canon or not.
So fosters, billy and mandy, knd, ed edd n eddy, all of hannah barbara characters, saul of the molemen, camp lazlo and by extension rockos modern life, powerpuff girls, the gorrilaz, and ok k.o all take place in the same universe.
I like to think that mandy bullied the absolute, everloving hell out of the imaginary friend, but they were just so happy and optimistic that their spirit couldn't be broken.
man i miss this era, after teen titans go was aired all the time i retired from watching CN it told me it was time to go and now i just watch rick and morty or other old cartoons like futurama or the early simpsons episodes since i never really watched simpsons.
There’s no way that Mandy would want to imaginary friend unless she wants to rule the world with an army of them. Besides she’s got Grim. Only Billy would want a happy imaginary friend.
@@shooby9496 My theory is that friend was Billy's but Mandy was getting annoyed with it so she told Billy to either return or she's telling Grim to reap it.
@@snakeeyes2551 id like to imagine billy went to fosters because he heard about it, dragged mandy along, with grim, they had whacky adventures where grim was mistaken for a imaginary friend, yada yada sequel to the grim adventurers of knd, and then aftewards mandy returns the imaginary friend like you said.
Like a few people mention, it might be possible that a grim adventures of the knd happened with fosters. What I think is that although it does sound a bit far fetched, I wonder if mandy may have imagined up the friend to cheer her up, but didn't like the friend. Either that, or she went to fosters to adopt the friend, and didn't like the friend.
Is no one going to mention how MANDY, the most brooding, evil, cunning, conniving little girl in all of television... made... The fucking Happy T-shirt dude? What the fuck? LOL
They did honestly. There was one scene in Billy and Mandy where Billy calls Eddy from Ed Edd n Eddy and Eddy tells him to call the Kids Next Door instead, because "they're cheap."

Notice how Mandy didn't move, only talk. The Fosters Animators can't animate as well as Billy and Mandy, so they opted for a cameo that did not need Mandy to move.
It's not necessarily that they didn't have the skill or expertise to animate her well, it's just that Billy & Mandy is traditionally animated while Foster's is entirely Flash animated. They would have to either animate her separately and then import it, or animate the entire episode traditionally.
The rainbow afro, the scarf, crop top, short shorts, and the fact that "gay" is another word for "happy" give me the feeling that this was a subtle gay joke.

@@drakologarnus7248 Jokes can have more than one layer to them, you know? The crop top, pink ascot, and short shorts are strange design choices to include on a character who is just based on "happiness and rainbows," but wouldn't look out of place on a stereotypically gay character. So it would make sense for the imaginary friend to both represent literally happiness and "gay" happiness. Also, remember that Foster's Home was made by the same guy who created The Powerpuff Girls, which has a lot of adult humor sprinkled throughout it. Heck, one of the villains is literally a satanic drag queen, so the show wasn't exactly subtle with the gay jokes. So this being a kid show is not a strong counterargument.
man, i missed the days where CN give use cameos or crossovers from different shows. Hell they even gave us commercials where all the toons, gathered up in a place and just interact
true have you seen the grim adventures of knd a it of course had a crossover of knd and grim adventures , but it also had voiced cameo of ed edd n eddy , mentioned of the ppg's and you can see them in the background

The crossovers are straight up bananas: Grim Adventures with KND * Grim, Billy, Mandy, & Irwin to The Powerpuff Girls * Ed, Edd, N Eddy at the Junk Yard with Terrence * and Samurai Jack has the same voice of Wilt. 👍👍👍👍
This would mean that Mandy actually tried to make a happy person using her mind. Let that sink in..... she MADE a person happy! Because she herself WANTS to be happy!!
No all the friends from Fosters went missing but then suddenly reappeared. What is most likely is that her parents got it for her in the hopes that she would cheer up. Then because she is the head of the house she decided to send him back.
Alternatively, maybe it was Billy's friend, but she couldn't take that much positivity in her life, so she brought the friend back. And probably without Billy knowing about it.
Even though I grew up watching Foster’s Hone for Imaginary Friends way back when I was little, I honestly had no idea that Mandy was included in this episode.
