With Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1, Maria Dueñas, winner of the Menuhin Competition 2021 gave her debut at the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. In the second part of the concert from March, 25th, 2021, Manfred Honeck conducted Dvorak's Ninth Symphony "From the New World". Due to the Corona pandemic there was no on-site audience at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

Göttliche Maria Duenas. Sie spielte ohne Zweifel die beste Bruch-VC, die ich je gehört habe. Ihr Vibrato ist unvergleichlich. Ihre Musikalität ist für ihr Alter fortgeschritten. Ich höre dieses Konzert, seit ich ein Teenager war.

Mi ha tanto tanto commosso. Ascolto questo concerto da 40 anni circa, mai mi ha toccato così in fondo. Commovente anche l'atteggiamento quasi sbalordito dei membri dell' orchestra, come in orazione alla presenza di una Dea, un fenomeno di devota celebrazione che ho potuto osservare in tutti gli altri concerti. Impossibile descrivere questa apparizione miracolosa. Grazie, Maria Duenas.

decenas de veces hé oïdo esto en los pasados 50 años, primero con Menuhin, pero esta version es otra cosa. No he oïdo hasta hoy una elaboración ritmica tan fina de la obra, muy bien transmitida por mis cabezas de pescado ( Fischköppe) como se les llama a mis teutones nordicos. Una violinista con intonaçión y ritmica sin fallos y gran belleza de sonido.En su dinamica una version quasi flamenca, á Paco de Lucía le hubiera gustado seguro. Los tonos bajos del violín recuerdan al arranque y la intensidad de Suarez Paz, el de Piazzolla, ni falta mostrar los dientes cuando sube.

Indeed! To be precise: The specific structure of the walls and ceilings of the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg was developed by Herzog & de Meuron in close collaboration with the acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. The white skin of the concert hall consists of around 10,000 panels made of plaster and paper, which weigh an average of 70 kilograms.

Das erste Programm ist eine wunderschöne und spannende Aufführung dieses spätromantischen und perfekt komponierten Konzerts mit seidigem doch gut phrasiertem Ton der technisch perfekten Solovioline sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Instrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt melodisch. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im gut betrachteten Tempo und mit sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Wunderbar und atemberaubend zugleich!
