I love how you make me 'listen' to a song I've heard a million times. When you hear a song so often, you lose how good it is sometimes, but you make me hear it properly again. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else. lol.

I always figured the chorus was a reference to prohibition era late night moon shine runners. They used to hot rod up cars to outrun police, often doing so late at night with no headlights and on country roads to avoid detection.

I was only seven, just laying on my floor in the dark with the radio, this song came on, and this is the first time I ever felt a song get INSIDE me, move THROUGH me, almost mind-altering, my body disappeared, such as the way I'd later find Pink Floyd to be. I've never forgotten how that felt.

Jodi: I was 9 when I heard Manfred’s version and like you, I also felt like astral projected out of my body; surreal. As at that age I wasn’t that in tune with that sort of feeling. And Chopsticks thrown in just made me giggle. I still feel the same way when I listen to Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon side 1 was my go during TTOM when I was doubled over in pain- put it on, and it just relaxed , fall asleep and wake up feeling better.❤️

Lyrics: (don't expect them to make sense) [Intro] Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night [Verse 1] Madman drummers bummers Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps His way into his hat With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin' The calliope crashed to the ground The calliope crashed to the ground! [Chorus] But she was blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night [Verse 2] Some silicone sister with a manager mister Told me I got what it takes She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong Play the song with the funky break" And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart To see if it was safe outside And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly And asked me if I needed a ride Asked me if I needed a ride! [Chorus] But she was blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light [Breakdown] She got down but she never got tired She's gonna make it through the night She's gonna make it through the night [Instrumental Solo] [Bridge] But mama, that's where the fun is But mama, that's where the fun is Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun But mama, that's where the fun is [Verse 3] Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone Preacher from the east Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone That's where they expect it least" And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner Watching the young girls dance And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone Reminding him of romance The calliope crashed to the ground [Chorus] But she was blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night Blinded by the light Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night [Counter Chorus] Blinded by the light (Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (With a teenage diplomat) Blinded by the light (In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (His way into his hat) Blinded by the light (With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (I tripped the merry-go-round) Blinded by the light (With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (The calliope crashed to the ground) Blinded by the light (Now Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (And throws his lover in the sand) Blinded by the light (And some bloodshot forget-me-not said daddy's within earshot) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (Save the buckshot, turn up the band) Blinded by the light (Some silicone sister with a manager mister) Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night (Told me I got what it takes) Blinded by the light (She said, "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong") [Outro] She got down, but she never got tired She's gonna make it through the night

I was in junior high school when this was a hit song and what was amazing was that WNBC in NY where I live was a top 40 radio station that was huge at the time. They first played the radio edit but they had gotten so many requests to play the full song and they actually caved and did so and would continue to do so afterwards. I was completely blown away that first time I heard the album edit which made a good song into a great one.

I am a big Springsteen fan,but this is one of very few songs that I actually like the cover better.Their version of Bob Dylan's "Quinn the Eskimo" is also fantastic and better than the original. This whole album,"The Roaring Silence" and another album called "Flight" are amazing prog rock albums.Much like Pink Floyd, the best way to listen is in the dark, with headphones cranked up,eyes closed and a hit or two(or more) of pot(in the states where it is legal,of course) or a few drinks if that isn't what you are into, and just let the music take you away.Don't pay too much attention to the lyrics, just feel the music.

Wish I could get my nieces & nephews to hear these amazing old songs with your open mind! At 58 I love current music too, while never losing my appreciation for these older favorites. I bet decades from now, you will still be experiencing a richer life because you are open to fantastic music no matter the era of it’s origin. WTG!

What I love about this song is that I think Manfred Mann created a song that is pure... sound. What I mean is that the lyrics are verging on total nonsense, but they rhyme and resonate so pleasingly, just like all of the instruments do. So it's a vocal song but practically an instrumental in the way those vocals work. Anyway, great song and great reaction from you Jayvee. Kudos!

That's Chris Slade on the drums. One of the most versatile drummers at the time. Chris played for Tom Jones and then played for Manfred Mann. A super musician whom I respected greatly as a drummer myself. Good job...You're keeping the music alive and you have an uplifting outlook. I really like your vids. Keep up the great job! T/Y BTW the technical name for switching into ear to ear is called "Panning."

Before radio played the same songs over and over again, we used to drive around for hours hoping this song would come on. Driving around in my 4 door maroon 1968 Dodge Dart, going nowhere, no worries , just listening to the radio....miss those nights....

You could say that on a lot of songs and I'd agree but this seems like it was written on psychedelic trip of some sort. Also lyrical rap when done to a high level can take an incredibly long time to write and is just as good if not better than a lot of the older stuff, a more accessible one of those songs would be how much a dollar costs by Kendrick Lamar if your interested, pull up a lyric video on RU-vid

I've only heard this on the radio and this version is much better, the instrumentals are wonderful and the lead singer is brilliant. I loved Manfred Mann, they are a very talented group and I agree with you that this is a masterpiece. Your reactions are as always fantastic, I love that you find the wonder in the music we lived and grew up with. I never had headphones we listened to the speakers and the little ones had fun going from one to the other to see what was different lol. Take care and stay safe please my friends, God bless you all love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen UK

This song was written and performed by Bruce Springsteen for his debut album "Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ". Manfred Mann had a hit with the cover. A movie by the same name appeared in theaters in 2019. The point? You've gotta start reacting to more songs by Springsteen...LIVE !
