We can align our goals with our purpose and mindset to accomplish what we are meant to do. The first step is to determine what your purpose and goals are. Then, you must understand how the brain can work in your favor to accomplish your goals. Once you can do that, you’ll be living your best life. Shannon Anderson is from Rensselaer, Indiana. Shannon has a master’s degree and has taught for 25 years dealing with students of all ages. She has tackled many feats and gained acclaim for her many works including the National Farm Bureau Book of the Year award and the Good Housekeeping Top Rated Picture Book of the Year award. Anderson has also been featured on the Today Show where she was named one of 10 teachers who awed and inspired the show. She says that Anomaly is something that is considered abnormal. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Shannon, your practical approach to goal-setting and using the reticular activating system is genius. Your achievements are a testament to the effectiveness of these strategies!

Hey Shannon, great talk! How can we balance pursuing our ikigai with practical responsibilities like earning a living and fulfilling daily obligations?

Shannon, you've achieved so much by pursuing your ikigai. However, what advice would you give to someone who's struggling to identify their purpose and passions in life?

I get what she's saying but I'm still confused about how to apply it to myself. I don't know that anything I'm passionate about is valuable or could have positive impact and I don't think I'm good enough at any of my passions that could... at least not good enough to monetize it.

I appreciate the concept of ikigai, Shannon, but isn't it a luxury to solely focus on our passions? Many of us have practical responsibilities and financial needs that might not align with our passions.

Yes, the part of Ikigai that is "What you can be valued for" is that piece. Before I left teaching to pursue writing and speaking full-time, I made sure I had my house and vehicle paid off. Financial responsibility has to be taken seriously as well.
