The good old days of the Marcoses with extravagant parties from left to right here and there. If this was in 1985 I was in my fifth grade living in QC. I was really unaware of these lifestyle of the Marcoses because during those days I have never heard any negative comments or unsavory reactions to what the regime did or wanted to do. Woe to any brave individual to lash out or say something against them and that I think is an understatement. This was the coconut palace supposedly ordered built by Imelda for the papal visit of Pope John Paul II in 1981 and according to reports the pope decided not to stay there and instead held quarters at the CBCP residence somewhere in Taft.

They took upon themselves the responsibility to enjoy a lavish lifestyle for the people. The people felt they have a part in their happiness. They watch these on tv, like monarchs, their subjects had a sense of pride watching them enjoy the finer things of life. We own them their happiness. We need to bring them back to power.

Dictatorships never bring out the potential of their people. If the Marcos' staid in power the Philippines would have the standard of living of Myanmar or Laos. It's a good thing they were removed now I can say Manila is one of the finest places to live with malls crowding every street.
