The mortal remains of 4 people who were killed after violence broke out in Manipur were airlifted from Churachandpur and were brought to Imphal on December 14. The four brought to Imphal are Soibam Orthelo, Sunilkumar, Ibemhal and Ibochou.
In a coordinated effort, the bodies of victims were moved out of the morgue of Churachandpur District Hospital early Thursday morning. They were then airlifted by Air Force choppers and were brought to Imphal.
Of the 4, 3 bodies have been handed over to their family members however, the mortal remains of Ibochou a resident of Sabungkhok were not accepted by his family members, as the last rites of Ibochou had already been performed. The dead body was then handed over to the municipal department.
The Supreme Court on November 28 issued directives for the burial or cremation or burial of all those killed in the ethnic violence in the state by December 11. The court had ordered, either the relatives of the deceased can accept the bodies and perform their last rites, or the state can go ahead and do the same in accordance with the municipal law.
